Every part or package I've bought from Banks over the years, from a 6.9 Ford to a new L5P in a GMC has worked perfectly right out of the box. They even helped with getting a 5.9 Cummins running correctly in an F450. Having bought a lot of performance parts over the years for both gas and diesel engines, Banks has been the best choice over and over. They don't over-promise and they do deliver. Pure race parts are something different but if you drive it every day this is what works. What else could you ask for these days than someone that does their best and tells the truth? No, I don't work for Banks, and no I don't get a discount for being nice here.

(Well there are also some Bosch motorsport ECU's as well but big $$.) I'd be curious to know what electronic package Gale and the team are using on their high power duramax engines? I somewhat expect it is not simple inline tuner ;)

I've had my Ford 11 years & have tried an Edge, a 6 way "chip" & a Banks(which I bought on EBAY for $40) on my 99 Ford F350 which pulls a 10,000# gvw horse trailer & same GVW car trailer most of the time. The Banks has been by far the best. Best power, best fuel economy, best shifting, lowest EGTs & ZERO black exhaust smoke. Not sure I'd spend $600 on this for an "experiment". Banks has ALWAYS been the leader in diesel performance. Banks is also the ONLY tuner manufacturer(regardless of gas or diesel) I've ever spoken to that told me they'd "unlock" it for free, if it was VIN locked when I got it. Just ran almost 400 miles running 65 mph pulling the horse trailer with some pretty big hills in very high winds, including in & out of Death Valley(3,000 ft to 200 below sea level & back out) & averaged 11.9 mpg & EGTs never over 1,000 degrees. Can go to southern Kali & cops never look at me because there's never any black smoke which is just wasted fuel! Other minimal mods are the International 203* T-stat & 70# primary fuel pressure spring & the DeiselSite adjustable mechanical waste gate controller set at 30# boost.

The Derringer for 2013+ Cummins 6.7L was taken back to the drawing board. We had a tuner that we were testing and ended up scraping; it wasn't up to Gale's standard. We are now trying and all-new method of tuning for the 2013+ Cummins 6.7L trucks . We don’t have a release date yet because it is still earlier in the R&D phase right now. We always like to get it right! Engineering is in our name, which means that we have to tinker with a product until its the best that it can be. Sorry that we don't have more information to go on right now.

We didn't drop the Derringer for the Cummins. To be frank, Gale and the team were not happy with the hp and tq output. So, last fall they scrapped the design and have been working on since then. The RAM requires pulse-width and timing to make significant increases in power. That requires a new circuit board, etc, which are in-process. 👍

Your tuner(and mine, on my '00) is a flash-tuner, so it can affect the timing, max boost(or at least ignore 'overboost' conditions), and control the trans shift pressures... a lot more than a dumb inline tuner(the "10K" mod on a 7.3 PSD basically). Also, it sure looks like the modern trucks are designed around the turbo's flow characteristics and push them to the max, vs the old 7.3s which had plenty of 'headroom' in terms of air that could be gained from a stock setup.

All good and well except for those who buy a late model Diesel pickup today are wasting their money vs. gas. This applies to most recreational owners, not those who haul heavy loads for a living. The best value today is a gas truck for recreation due to the DPF/DEF on Diesels. Why? Diesels are about an extra $8,000 to $12,000 in cost plus they no longer get the fuel mileage they used to prior to 2008. Most newer Diesel pick up trucks are getting 8 to 12 MPG and paying more for a gallon of Diesel than unleaded gas plus the extra cost of the DEF. Insurance is more and from what we are hearing, Diesels require much more maintenance such as fuel filter, oil filters and oil changes often. Those engines hold a few gallons of oil too. Many will disagree, so those who are Diesel minded which is okay, its your money and vehicle experience but for most folks, the value is less over the long run. If you haul heavy every weekend for pleasure I'd say you might want a Diesel for the extra power going up hills etc. but it would be a close decision math wise as gas would be the better value. For those who are always hauling heavy, Diesel is the way to go by far so this Derringer item would benefit all Diesel trucks. And the best part of it is, no smoke and it's legal plus no worries about blowing up the engine.

Counter point. My 2018 3500 Ram 6.7 gets better mpg than my 2004 Dodge 5.9. My stock hp is up, my stock torque is up by 200#, my rear gear ratio went from 3.73 to a 3.42. Oil changes are the same $. One of the fuel filters is about the same, but there is and added expense of the second one. There are a few things you failed to talk about on the new big gas engines and I will admit that I have not looked into then. I( the quanitity and grade of oil required, Some gas engines require full synthetic oil.2( the fuel filter required and change interval, 3( the fuel grade required to tow at its max capacity vses using it as a daily driver. Talking in generalities about the differences foe the weekend of up to two to three month straight tower is not painting the full picture in my mind.

@@johnirwin1837 True, its hard to paint something everyone will accept. However, when I discuss MPG with Diesel trucks today vs. 10+ year old ones, it has to do with while towing a decent load. Otherwise, there is not point in talking about a Diesel truck going down the hwy empty since the conversation is all about value and cost of ownership.

@@bcbloc02 Point made. MPG has suffered over the years. A friend has the wonderful Ford 6.4 Powerstroke...9 MPG empty load. Already went through one engine at 110,000.

Very attentive to details here. I would like to ask you Banks Power or Mr. Gale Banks as you have been perfecting Derringer for the light to medium duty engine sector, would this same system possibly be a a good fit if developed properly for heavy duty and class 8 heavy truck engines?

I can think of a few ways to make this even better; - Different tuning modes, wirelessly controlled via an app or something. - Telemetry logging for various diagnostic stuff, to detect error codes and whatnot. There are many OBD-II-based tools for highly technical troubleshooting out there that you could draw inspiration from. - Maybe some kind of machine learning so that it can make its tuning even better as it learns your driving style and vehicle characteristics? - An easter egg in the software to amuse anyone taking a deeper look at it. - Wireless updating of its software? I'd buy that~

I know a big majority of Raptor owners want to add power but don’t want the footprint. Is there a Derringer module in the making??😉😉😉 I loved the one for my F250 and would love to see what y’all can do with the Raptor motor!

How are these other tuners advertising spectacular power increases (+100hp) with no increase in turbo size. They must be getting spectacular turbine drive pressures.
