In my opinion all this EDC stuff was created by the 80s&90s kids that would go exploring old factories and buildings. Just general adventuring. We carried pellet guns and used old military surplus gear.

I must say awesome video first. The being approached pumping gas scenario...few think about this option, but here is my inner city experience from a small villager...I was travelling with my kids and found myself fuel bingo on a freeway going through OKC. As I was pumping gas a group of 3 guys approached me from the side walk in an aggressive manner both physically and verbally...I stopped pumping, calmly explained I am just a father with 4 kids in the vehicle passing through and don't have any cash...they took a step closer and I pulled my lighter from my pocket and the gas nozzle from my Durango and said, choose your next steps wisely...they decided the skinny white guy was too crazy to proceed and carried on with their walk...I finished pumping my gas and left...no felony gun possession charges, no escalation of hostility from them...

I live in California for work. Something I tell my civie friends is “I carry the things I carry regardless of the laws. I’m willing to deal with the consequences, because that means I (and whoever I am with) survived the event that necessitated the use of my tools”. Do consider laws, but for me personally I don’t live my life in a way that the state “lets me” live it.

A Snake Staff TQ is to a CAT TQ as a Glock 43 is to a 17. Its not as ideal as a full size if you have to use it, but should still get the job done as long as you get familiar with it and its limits. The TQ also fits in a 43 holster mag slot perfectly, which is where I carry mine, keeping the spare mag in my pocket with a neomag clip.

Can’t say enough good stuff about Leathermans for EDC. I carry a free p4 every day and I use it constantly, with all the tools, wire cutters, screwdrivers, pliers, saw, 2 knives to name a few. It fits securely in a glock mag carrier, or a nylon sheath, and they also make one hell of a fist pack too. And it’s got a no questions asked lifetime warranty for anything that breaks.

Some very insightful selections! Regarding wallets and pick pockets: I have a wallet option that is made from thin cordura and has a small D-ring so I can attach it by a number of means to a belt loop. Not my first daily choice, but a really nice option for travel, large crowds in tight quarters, or any time when I feel pick pocketing is higher risk.

The amount of times I have been asked why I carry a flash light is honestly nuts. These days people rarely look twice if I pull out a pocket knife, but the flash light almost always makes someone who doesn't really know me to ask why. And I struggle not to sound condescending when I answer, because it's obvious if you think about it for a few seconds isn't it?

Hello, Adam. FYI-what nearly everyone recognizes and uses as a 'fanny pack' is, in actuality, what is more properly known as a 'grip bag.' In the movie and television industries, a class of laborer exists, known as 'grips.' These grips are the 'johnny-on-the-spot' laborers who may be required to perform almost any detail labor needed at the moment, such as holding a light (hence, the term, grip), adjusting a key light or a microphone boom or a ballast line, etc. A good grip will store in one's grip bag nearly all the tools that grip will likely need for performing those chores while on set or on location. Grips typically wear their grip bags on the side of one or the other of one's hips, not on one's fanny side and not in front. Due to the obvious handy nature of these pouches or bags, these grip bags suddenly became widely popular in the 1980's in Central Florida by tourists, retirees, and soccer moms, all of whom would invariably wear them in front. The popularity of these grip bags has waned, somewhat, but they remain available because they remain handy items. I share this with you because you might find it of at least some mild interest. On a more humorous note, I think the rectangular battery that you equated to a lipstick actually more closely resembles one of those PEZ candy dispensers (grin). I appreciate the video. Please keep making them. Cheers.

Boot strategy with tq's is real. Been carrying as such for the last ~18 months. To make it slightly more ideal for moving I've been using a piece of shock cord to hold it more to my leg, however some purpose built nylon would be definitely better. Your milage may vary with comfortablity and life span of the tq.

A big thing that I added to EDC, especially for travel is a Thyrm Cellvault and USB-C rechargeable CR123/16340 and 18650 batteries. My two Go-To lights are the Surefire E2D and EDCL1-T. Being able to have spare power in something a little bigger than a BIC lighter is a nice sense of security, and it just chills in the fanny pack.

To be a knife guy, it doesn't matter how many you carry. What matters is why you have the knives. If you buy knives only as a tool, you're not a knife guy even if you have 50. If you buy knives because they look cool or they have some unique mechanical action or design element... even if you have only 1 knife you are a knife guy.

Snake Staff tourniquet is 1" wide - require much more pressure to stop the bleeding. I would rather use a SOF-T, it packs more compact than the standard CAT, but is still 1.5" wide. The .5" doesn't sound like a lot, but it really helps especially during self-application.

Problem with pistol lights from what I hear is it can’t be used defensively like a regular flashlight. Like you said, your base defense tool is a flashlight which is wise and something I have heard before. Zero legal consequences with pointing a flashlight at someone (unless you use strobe/they are epileptic) unless you have it mounted on a gun because obviously pointing one points the other (big reason some police have a flashlight and a gun separate.) If you see someone in the dark with a flashlight you will automatically point it directly upon them

However, the "Shieldbearer of Faith" channel has a review video that points out what may be some big flaws with the Snake Staff TQ. Worth checking out. I do like to see companies trying to innovate the TQ, so this is not me being negative about Snake Staff out of hatred. Just constructive criticism. The design has alot of potential.

Years ago, your "EDC",was a wallet, watch, pocket knife, coin purse, handkerchief and pen. Sometimes a checkbook or small notebook/binder. Some guys carried folding knives. Then, the cellphone became standard. Now, everything is specialized, like you're a secret agent or spec ops. I tell people, carry whatever is legal in your city or state. Some areas don't care about your politics or whether you have a CCW. Sorry, if I offended anyone. Bit, that's just the way it is.

I keep 2 surefire 18650 chargers with batteries in all slots. Anytime Im headed out, I switch out the battery and know I have a light for many hours. I think theyre 500 lumen. The clinch pick is my choice for a defensive blade, to fight towards my pistol, if needed. That Staccato is nice, but I dont think I could carry one in the summer. Im in NC too, many times my glocks are dripping wet in the summer. I'm not stressin the 2 rounds per mag difference.

Most pat downs just brush under the arms and along the beltline. If you wear the non metallic knife on a cord around your neck, it's essentially invisible. Also, it's fairly easy to get metallic knives in through club security. Simply clip it to the waistband behind one's belt buckle, and when the wand detects the blade you can simply show security your metal belt buckle as explanation. Also can work for small pistols if you use a cowboy buckle and a tuckable holster.

I hope you realize with modern door locks and warding (the zig zag shape of the key way) it’s not as easy or as necessary to cast a key anymore. Taking imprints in clay is to quickly record the bitting (the uniquely cut pattern of a key) is honestly only useful to take back and decode to cut a key blank to match with a hand punch tool in privacy. All very easy to accomplish with a simple high quality smartphones camera photo and Photoshop overlaying templates that are freely available online. If you want copies for your own house, simply take your key to your local hardware store and have em cut a few duplicates out of actual key blanks for a couple bucks each.

Speaking of AirTags! I love apple products especially after I tell this story. So one day after getting ready to leave I had forgotten inside the house I remembered quickly. So I set my small carry pack that had my Glock gen 5 mos and other edc items down on the back edge of my truck. Yes I went back in the house to grab something and came back out in a rush and completely forgot I set it down in that spot. So yes It never dawned on me I didn’t grab the pack to put inside with me like I always do. I went to take care of some things and didn’t need the pack for any I was doing. So came back home and realized I didn’t grab my bag. So I went to get it and didn’t see it in the usually spot in the truck. I looked everywhere and thought did I even bring it with me. And checked and checked and didn’t find it. Then I back tracked and remembered I set It down on the truck back end and was like oh! Crap! I drove down the street to look for it on the road or side of the road no luck. So I went down to the local police station to report that my bag was missing and it had my Glock 19 inside. So made the report and left bummed with my wife to go grab some dinner. While eating I had a phone call and needed to use my apple AirPods and couldn’t find them. I was like what the hell! Then bingo I remember they were in the bag so yes you can track your AirPods and I did just that and found the exact location where they were at a residence in a neighborhood a couple miles from my own. I let law enforcement know the information and sure enough they went to the location and actually knocked on wrong door as that person was not home. Then they waited for a while and decided to check with the house next door and bingo the guy came out said I kinda figured why were the cops hanging outside on my street. He said he found a small pack on the side of the road and was going to wait unit the next day to report it. So he had my things and gave it to law enforcement without incident. I was so thankful that my AirPods were in the pack as I keep them in there as well thank goodness! Got lucky on that one close call!

Great video!!!! Spot on. This IS the biggest issue, in my mind. How much CAN you carry, ON YOUR PERSON. And that is very subjective. Great overview. Very well thought out and defined, as for suggestions. Love your tool kit(s). Clever. Lock pick stuffs, very handy. Those nonmetallic blades, Thanks for that. One thing that has been haunting me. Again, THANK YOU guys for making these vids. Loads of GREAT info!!!

Great for getting yourself in trouble. Did any of you big kids, stop and think that, those things could be considered, "burglary tools"? Lock picks, nonmetallic daggers, spring coshes? They're called, "Breaking and entering" tools. Any cop would probably arrest you, if they caught you? Knives, are iffy. There was a guy that claimed to be a bounty hunter from New York city, and told me, my pocket knife was too long. I said, well, you're not in New York City. You're in my area, and I carry what I want.

I used to carry one rake pick in my wallet back in the day. We went to Daytona Bikeweek and my buddy locked his keyes in his big ol 1/4 million dollar camper. Was about to break the window and I stopped him, and unlocked the door darn near as fast as having a key. Needless to say, I was his hero. Lol. That is just one of many times it was useful. I helped a lady get in her car, when she locked it when it was running, with her dog in the car, in the summer

I enjoy EDC vids and the ideas of EDC, and despite the laws in Australia I always carry a knife as it's a useful tool, however, it's insane to me that I've never really considered how lucky I am to live where I do. When I heard you say "your perception of the threats you might encounter", I've never considered that. I've never once in my life (45yo) thought to myself I need a weapon because I am unsure of the threats I may face in my daily existence. It just never occurred to me. I'm not scared of police shooting me, I'm not scared of another person shooting me, I'm not scared of getting in a fight, I'm not scared of the government. I worry about magpies in spring and if there will be a cold beer when I finish work, and that's pretty much it. I know its complicated for the USA but I'm just glad I've never had to consider a threat greater than an angry bird.

Sounds like paradise but it’s not a possibility for the USA. While many states have already disarmed the populace many many millions upon millions more live in free States. If the Gov’t tried to wholesale confiscate weapons I truly believe it would lead to civil war as crazy as that sounds.

@@asmith7876 Yea we thought the same prior to them doing it here. I like guns, I had several rifles which i gave up during the buy back/amnesty scheme here in Aus because realsistically i had no need for them. I hadnt been hunting in years, i didnt need them to protect me from other people, they were purely recreactional and tbh I didnt have a liscense for them. The big diff i think is the perception of self defense, if someone else has a gun i need a gun to protect myself, but if you get away from pistols and semi auto that just leaves you with fun/recreational weapons. I have friends who still have guns and use them to hunt or target shoot but no one has pistols or semi auto, and while you can do some damage with a bolt action rifle you cant do as much as a 30 round clip semi/full auto and a school full of people. I think if you just left tactical weapons in the hands of propper operators that still leaves a lot to play with, and lets be honest if you think your overthrowing a tyranical govt with your armament just look at every waco or siege vs the govt in the last 30 years. You cant win. So while yea keep guns, maybe just not all of them?

@@lobsang666 We live far enough from the city that if I call the police it will be a while. My security is my problem, not the governments. Meth heads, whatever, if someone needs to get shot it will be me doing the shooting. American culture will never submit to being disarmed. Fighting a tyrannical government might be a fantasy, or not. When I go to the gas station or out at night. I keep a light and mace on the ready. People forget about mace. But if a would be attacker is unarmed or even has a knife. It can keep distance. People would be surprised if you draw down and down a person with a knife. Depending on the distance you can still be charged. Also carry a TR50 pepper ball riot ball gun under my front seat and walking dog at night. But main is a 43x OEM everything and a .357 Taurus snub on the ankle.

not quite sure what you mean by a folding knife not being a “defensive knife” but somehow your tiny little fixed blade which in entirety is the size of the blade on many medium/moderate sized folding knives
@theKashConnoisseur
@theKashConnoisseur 2 жыл бұрын
You don't need a particularly large knife for defensive uses, but it does need to be rather stout since human soft tissues can be quite dense and human bones are essentially akin to knifing concrete. The concern with a vast majority of folding knives is that the blade locking mechanism isn't strong enough to withstand the forces which might be placed upon it in a self defense scenario. It does the self defender no good if their folding knife cuts their fingers off when the locking mechanism fails as they stab into their attacker. That being said, there ARE some folding knives with locking mechanisms designed to be stout enough for defensive use cases. Several Cold Steel models come to mind, as well as a couple Spyderco models. And in a pinch, given no other options, I suppose any old backlocking pocket knife with a sharp edge will do ok. Just try and avoid going all stabby into hard bony parts.

Medical shears are also a great option. They can do a lot of the stuff you'd otherwise carry a pocket knife for, but are benign enough that you can carry them onto an airplane.

Outstanding presentation, I think you covered it all. I am also a strong believer in carring a fixed blade, I carry the Esee pr4 in a kydex sheath, weak side. It is not necessarily a fighting blade, but can do, not to mention it makes a good camp/ hunting blade. I do use the fanny packs at times, I depend heavily on a edc day pack, for medical, extra mags, food, water, fire, snively gear, etc. Again great presentation, thanks for sharing.

Like your channel thank you! Like the small belt knife and other tips I’m trying to find girly adaptations. Please do not leave your female friends house keys in the car; found out the hard way, without having a dad around. The ex-cons train in car repair, oil change, tire fixing and other areas that need the car keys to access the repairs. All it takes is a picture of a car key and they can make a copy (please check that on the web). You have way more defense and security experience than me; unfortunately I had to learn the above the hard way.
