Ye i just commented on that rotterdam video. If you'd have a city center with just sidewalks/bicycle lanes/bus/tram/metro/emergency services/deliveries&trash. Then hubs around where the stations connect to the major traffic could sort the rest. And if you have canals like in amsterdam, you could use ferries. And i guess in this game, the water would bump up the land value right ?

I’m considering banning cars in my current city, but banning trucks would be a disaster. My city has lovely public transport with lots of footpaths and accessible alternative options and most people use public transit or just walk, cars are rarely seen in my city aside from on the highway between districts where they’re occasionally needed if the blimps and ferries aren’t enough to help people get to where they need to go, however lorries are a common right in industrial districts. Banning combustion engines was a huge help early in the city’s life, and it was helpful on my last city too, I honestly think I’m gonna do it for every city from now on.

@Jimulacrum3 жыл бұрын
I've been working on a city where part of my goal is to have car-hostile areas that are optimized for bikes and pedestrians. You can encourage biking and walking, of course, but you can't really discourage motor vehicles with the vanilla options without also turning away all the trash trucks, hearses, police, fire, and other services that keep your city populated and functional. As we see here. So I'm developing some road assets that do this instead. So far there are two: Bikes-First Avenue: This is the 4-lane collector, but redesigned so that the middle two lanes are priority lanes that only allow bikes. The outer two lanes are low-speed lanes (15 km/h or whatever units the game uses) designed for cars, so that public services can still get to buildings, but all traffic that isn't strictly necessary is encouraged to avoid the Bikes-First road. I also did a bunch of work with the props and colors to make it more distinctively for people and bikes than for motor vehicles. (This includes traffic delineators to protect the bike lanes, which is only cosmetic in the game but of course very important IRL.) Bikes-First Asymmetrical Street: This is the vanilla/DLC asym street, redesigned so that the two adjacent opposite-direction lanes are priority bike lanes, and the outer lane that represents the duplicated direction is the low-priority car lane. This is an interesting one, as it offers travel in all directions for bikes but is one-way for motor vehicles. You have to be careful with how you orient the one-way streets or you'll make a mess. I'd like to add a few more assets to the list (bikes-only highway would be a nice one), but I'm working out some kinks in the current roads-specifically, groups of pedestrians, usually with dogs, get stuck in little pockets and gradually form a mob that won't go away unless I change the road. Not sure why it's happening. From what I've seen so far, it might have to do with a lack of parking, but I'm just not sure. Otherwise they function well, i.e., zoning works well and services are able to do their thing. I hope to make a whole city out of them someday, if I can.

How to help one road city- 1- Add in more paths, especially across the roads as there arent any paths. 2- Make a public transport system that doesnt rely on your squiggly road (like metro) so that people can travel easily. 3- Upgrade all your road to the small four lane road, this will mean no one will park and traffic will be better. 4- Introduce some intercity transport so that tourists can come in easily. 5- Improve public services once you have the money, this will make people happier and more likely to move in. There are probably some more things that you could do that I havent thought of.

Fun little science experiment Prof. Biffa!! Perhaps, if you try this again, you can ban traffic from the start of the game that will help you see where walking paths will be dominant and more efficient. Also, if you ran a road from your garbage area and connected it to the windy road end, people would only need to go *half* the distance to get where they need to. They could choose left or right from the highway and no one would ever need to move the entire length of the one road.... essentially a gigantic two way round about. cheers.
@schzean6 жыл бұрын
Love the challenge! Cool concept, especially to remove all cars and see that they do indeed walk everywhere. I did a one road city and I ended up adding three length road spurs for a turn around every so often (technically then not one road, I know) I did this because - if you noticed, the garbage truck count would never go above 9 or so for your 34 capacity - because they can't complete their path since it is so long. I think you had other incineration plants in city earlier but had deleted them... that could be the solution - but no matter where the IP is, the trucks would have a hard time completing their path.
@SIG4425 жыл бұрын
I know it's a old video and you likely not bothering with this again, but only seeing it now and having a random ideas that in theory may help out with this challenge. I am in no way a expert, actually pretty much a starter at the game. But I thought it would be a good thing to still add my thoughts, perhaps it will help out a little. - Build enough parking garages for people to park - Ban all parking on the road - Add in a roundabout for people to keep moving and the garbage trucks and emergency vehicles not being affected too much - Add in a metro line which technically does not count as a road and adds a huge plus for getting rid of unwanted traffic and has the bonus of people getting to their locations faster. - Add in loads of paths for people to walk and bike on (technically not cheating as these paths do not allow cars in the first place) EDIT: - Ferries are technically allowed as they don't use roads. It may be a solution to some extend, but worrying about the costs.

I still want to see a tram line straight down the whole road, two-lane two-way, from the intersection to the bitter end. Regular tram stops in places, maybe even the bus-tram terminal. Heck, add a few sets of subways as well. When I say tram, I mean the elevated subway that has its own transportation tab. If it is also two-way, it could make the same massive loop. Biffi I recommend the following: - Use the road mod to allocate busstops indents in the one way road. Your busses are holding car other traffic (even if cars are banned) up. - Use the lane management a little bit more, you see loads of cars on one single line whilst you have two - Especially at the wiggly wiggly wiggly part, upgrade it to three-way if you don't ban car traffic and use the lane management to assign services for 1 lane, cars for another and heavy traffic (if any) for another. Just my 2 pennies to see what will happen to help you.

"Biffa could be here" the digitally simulated citizens thought. "I've never been in this one-road city before, Biffa could be anywhere". The polluted, dusty wind felt noxious on their skin and made them feel ill. "I hate Biffa", they all thought in unison. City-simulation theme music reverberated their cars, making them pulsate even as cheap 9-cell wine simulated flowing through their unrendered veins, which were powerful and thick from drinking too much of the local water, and washed away their (merited) fear of Biffa-style policy manipulations intended to stop them from using their cars on the road.
