Sir, I'm a 16 years old student. I'm playing flute for 6 months. Now this instrument became a very important part of life. I'm following you from my start. Your videos really help me so much.

Sir. I am a shishya of yours and I look upto you as my idol. Getting that call from you was one of the best experiences in my flute journey so far. I can't express how remembering our conversation brings smile to my face every single time. I feel lucky and humbled by your nature at the same time. To everyone else, here's a short description of my flute journey. I started learning flute more than two years ago in my college days, all by my own without a tutor, all by KZbin videos. I took a lot of shortcuts in my journey and ended up learning it all wrong. After two years I couldn't play the notes in pitch, half notes were always scary to me, I had no idea whether the notes I played was in sur or not, no ear training, no idea of taal, low breath capacity, no discipline, jab bhi man hua randomly utha ke kisi song ka tutorial se usko seekh leta tha. At one point I realised that It was all wrong and somehow somewhere I was missing that satisfaction in my flute playing. I started from scratch again with Ashwin Sir's first module of long notes. And trust me, it has completely changed the way I play and perceive flute playing. Playing a long Pa note sounds ethereal. It feels like the Bansuri has become part of my breath and body. I think I'm 1/10 at flute right now, and I hope to reach 3/10 by end of this course, I'll keep practicing each chapter till I master it and then only move on. :) Lots of love Ashwin sir, you are doing great work. Harish bhaiya makes very beautiful flutes with best tuned in very reasonable price.I used bhavika flute maked by Harish bhaiya. My first flute from him is G natural base, it is still my best flute. He is a very humble person.he provide many thread colour and pattern so, You can make your flute with your own threading colour and pattern and thickness of bamboo. I am totally satisfied with bhavika flute.

@@ashwinflute correct sir. But I dont know hindi. You r a expert. We are not yet came to a level to decide on our own listening to the sound. Any flute sounds good used a expert like you. But as a beginner we are more happy to have a flute recommended by a expert like you. Thats why.

That is the whole point. All the makers in these reviews are good in their own way. I don’t review flutes that don’t sound very nice. So I have done the first level of filtration for you. You need to decide after listening to the tone, tuning, look at the finish etc (you don’t need to know Hindi for that. No?) Hope you find a good flute after this.

I had been a follower of Ashwin Jis music for a good time now. There are many aspects which i like about you Ashwin Ji 1. All of your videos about various topics are well backed up with detailed technical explanations...to me atleast all my doubts are closed then n there itself. 2.Perfect Real life examples to explain some technicalities is an art in itself which you have mastered for sure. 3.Clear communication n a good command over English Vocab adds charm to the content. 4.Genuinity is something rare these days n you have it so naturally that one can notice it in no time. आश्विन सर जी हमे यह समझयीये की जब हम बंसूरी तानपुरा लेकर बजाते है तो achchhi लगती है, लेकीन vahi bansuri वेस्टर्न tuning ऑर्केस्ट्रा मे bajane गये तो बेसुरा होती है. Notes कम लगते है, kyonki ऑर्केस्ट्रा मे ऑर्गन के साथ bajana पडता है.. aur ऑर्गन के सब notes 440 hz होते है.. तो क्या क्लासिकल के लिये aur ऑर्केस्ट्रा के लिये अलग अलग bansuri होना चाहिए.. please हमे समजायिये.. क्या करना चाहिए..

आपको बजाते समय हमेशा सुर में बजाना होता है। इस पर Indian और Western tuning का क्या लेना देना हो सकता है? जैसे मैंने इस विडीओ में हल्का सा adjust करके बजाया उतना तो कोई कर ही सकता है। आपके सवाल का जवाब - दो अलग tuning के बांसुरी हो सकते हैं। पर मुझे कभी इस की ज़रूरत नहीं पड़ी। :)

Yes it depends on the zoor of foonk. Each person has different stemina and pressure of blow. When my guru make flute, he has got very much pressure in his foonk, so when he make perfect tuning flute, my blow doesnt have as much pressure as him, so for me same flute is lower in pitch, either i have to adjust my flute to that pressure or have to make the holes little bigger or near to blowing hole, to make the flute sound little higher

Love your playing, presentations method and smiles! Forgive me if I misunderstood as my Hindi is pretty lacking, but I do think that tuning apps have a part to play. Some people are naturally gifted with a good pitch sense, for others it takes time and practice. For the latter, tuner apps can be very useful, especially at the beginning, but with one caveat. Most if not all tuner apps are meant for the Western equal temperament. Some of them have the ability to change this to just intonation which is what is required for Indian music. A few years ago I showed how to do this on my channel. Another thing: under just intonation, if a bansuri is tuned for E, one cannot expect it to be in tune, without slight adjustments, when you are transposing your Sa to another tone hole.

Fully agree with you. But some beginner students tend to take it to the next level by constantly trying to monitor their pitching with a visual reference like a tuner. That is definitely a NO according to me. As I said, music is an aural experience. And one has to train one’s ears and be constantly guided only by that. :) Hope that makes sense.

@@ashwinflute Agreed. A tuner can enable the beginner to reach the correct shruthi. Once reached, then the ear should take over, listening to the correct shruthi in relation to the tanpura shruthi. In this way, the beginner can train the ear to be more sensitive and acquire shruthi sense.

Namaste Ji I really think that If Shadj and Pancham are with the tune, the other swaras must match with it. If not there is mistake in flute for sure. But here u told it may be due do change in blowing !!
