If anyone needs proof of ivanchuk is the all time greatest player look up 1991 chess tournament only one tournament comes up Linares (1991) event (average rating 2651-2675). The players were: Garry Kasparov (Elo ranked #1 in the world), Anatoly Karpov (#2), Boris Gelfand (#3), Vassily Ivanchuk (#4), Mikhail Gurevich (#6), Jaan Ehlvest (#7), Valery Salov (#9), Alexander Beliavsky (#10), Gata Kamsky (#13), Viswanathan Anand (#14), Jan Timman (#16), Jonathan Speelman (#25), Artur Yusupov (#31), and Ljubomir Ljubojevic (#40). Of the top 10 players in the world, only Evgeny Bareev (#5) and Leonid Yudasin (#8) were missing. He beat Kasparov round 1 in 1991 this would have been prime Kasparov ivanchuk wins half a point ahead of Kasparov being the only person in the tournament to not lose a single match all ended in a win or a draw Everyone talks about whos the best and we always say well we cant go back in time and have a tournament well the tournament of the best happened in 1991 ivanchuk is the best he may be inconsistent but hey

But more importantly.. what a gentleman, what a pleasure to listen to, mannerisms, friendliness, affable, may not be the best player in the world, but if you could pick someone to sit around with and talk chess for 2-3 hours, this is the guy even if you were rated 1900. Respectful. Kasparov and the current top rated players would not give you the correct time if you were 1900 ELO unless perhaps you were paying them for their time.
