I was listening to my Booof Wang while I was working and it was dead silent , not a peep from anyone for hours... and then a voice crackled to life "can someone give me a radio check?" . My Booof Wang was in arms reach so I reached for it .. but as fast as a gunslinger from the old west another voice broke the squelch..."Do you have a Callsign? Just got into radio. I was going through the settings on my UV-K5 and turned the roger beep on... I liked it. Then i found out it piss's off some people... I then decided i will never tern it off, and will enable it on every radio i ever own from now on.

I heard a GMRS user a while back in Lubbock Tx (he did use his call sign) using a radio on the 2Meter ham frequency. When one of the local hams confronted him he explained he bought the radio as a GMRS radio and he was simply using the channels programmed into it. About six months later I was in Lubbock again and heard a Ham identify on a GMRS repeater, no one acknowledged him or even keyed up. I have a license for both radio services and found it amusing that the hams were breaking the FCC regs by replying to the GMRS user to 'edjumahcate' him but the GMRS users did what the Hams should have done. With that said people break the rules all the time, but there is a cost. Rules ensure that society functions, when people break the rules society develops problems. When those in power make and/or try to enforce silly rules, people break the rules starting with the silly ones. HOAs are a good example.

Eyes gots my AE license (with a perfect score), went to the mingle with a local ham club and was told 232 times in under 13 minutes how eyes bought the wrong durn equipment, the wrong durn antenna and how I smelled funny too. Years ago, I was at a yard sale, and the guy had some CBs and a ham radio for sale. When I inquired about the ham, he puffed his chest and informed me I could not buy it unless I had an operator's license, falsely claiming it was illegal to own without one. I got a whole BS speech about regulations and the make-believe laws he thought he was enforcing. Part of me thinks he put it on the yard sale just so he could berate people for asking about it and could later brag to his buddies how he saved the airwaves from potential doom.
