In this series Coach Carl breaks down the Bar Muscle Up movement into a few strength and skill progressions to help you pull up over the bar and into the support position.
In this first video, Carl discusses the strength component required for the Bar Muscle Up, where having a hip-to-bar pull up is ideal. To start, practice your chin-to-bar pull ups, chest-to-bar pull ups, and then your belly- or hip-to-bar pull ups to get the height required to clear the bar.

After watching this 3 part videos i went and did my first muscle up the next morning. I knew i had the strength to do it because i can do a lot of pull ups and dips. It's just a matter of getting the technique down. Most people that can do muscle ups suck at explaining it. Thanks for the videos.

I've been able to do bar muscle-ups for over a year but I'm watching this because everyone keeps asking me how to learn them.

My usual reply after they show me their attempt (most often a high pullup from dead hang, then they stick at the top) is that they gotta start with a swing and pull keeping the bar away from the chest. Also train negatives with transition as slow as possible. Let's see how this progression compares
