I remember the joy of Kenyans in November 2008 when Barack Obama was elected President of the United States, images of his father's village jubilant. I even believe that all Africans were proud on November 4, 2008.

I read about Abraham Lincoln in my eighth-grade Nepali coursebook in Nepal in the late 1980s. Reading about Lincoln from different circumstances halfway around the world away, I could just imagine how Lincoln's childhood must have been and how he rose to greatness despite all odds against him. A hundred years or so later, people in many parts of the world will read about Obama and his improbable rise to the presidency of the United States. Whatever you say and think about him, You can not take away the fact that he was a historic president of the United States and one of the greatest presidents this country has ever had. I felt using "Africa" in the title was justified because of the multiple countries, just as if he had visited Germany, the United Kingdom, and Belgium, one might say he went to Europe.
