it may be pure!! In 2006, 5 samples from Rabat collection were DNA tested and were not maternally barbary!! However another lion from the same collection was tested at a german zoo and had no sub saharian DNA!!! so most likely a true barbary lion!!
@luisfelipesilvasampaio79222 жыл бұрын
According to Gerard, a hunter who lived in algeria during the 1800 and his book his describes them: There were 3 types of atlas lions!! the black, tawny and grey lions! the black ones had very big manes that covered the shoulders and legs almost to the ground and under the belly and were very dark manes! the collor of a dark bay horse!! the tawny and grey types had lighter manes collor but were bigger!!! this one is of the black type!!!
@luisfelipesilvasampaio79222 жыл бұрын
@ACEKING Actually that never were pure barbary lions!! Research shows that lions in Africa probably constitute a single population that interbred during several waves of migration since the Late Pleistocene. This means that even the original barbary lion was not "pure"! The genetic distinctness of Barbary lions is in a unique haplotype! Simon Black´s recent research shows that barbary lions have gone extinct in the wild much later than previously believed!! so if a lion today has that haplotype and it´s origin can be traced back to barbary lions in the wild it can be considered a barbary lion!!! it all comes down to DNA!!!
@luisfelipesilvasampaio79222 жыл бұрын
@ACEKING I gave you the source!! kent university!! Simon Black and his team work and papers!! You are the one who never gave any source for your clame!! just by saying that is a fact doesn´t make it a fact!! Show me YOUR source!!! There are only 3 confirmed original barbary lions sources of DNA samples!! The lion skull from the middle ages at the uk and the taxidermy specimen at leiden from the 1800´s!!! By a process of elimination they all shared DNA with other populations of lions except by the hyplotype i mentioned!! So any lion with that hyplotype can be considered barbary because no other lion has that!!!
@luisfelipesilvasampaio79222 жыл бұрын
@ACEKING is that hyplotype that gives to the animal all the characteristics that we know as barbary!! shorter legs, short muzzle, a cranial line that goes from the top of the head to the tip of the nose, etc...

Those present in Morocco now are the purest breed because they were in the king’s palace and he caught them from the wild and remained in captivity. They did not mix with other lions, and they are still in the zoo in Morocco. It can be known that they are of a pure breed from the fur on their bellies and their huge size, in addition to their Their thick hair
@arvelyt2188 Жыл бұрын
@@تيوبس-ظ8ذ not true lmao simply google search can debunk that bud. A pure bread Atlas lion weights 550-600 Pounds bigger than a Bengal tiger which is the second largest cat. 1st is the Siberian tiger and 3rd is the African Lion. Also side not the size of them in captivity is due to them being fed really well without much exercise so there size is not legit either. Testing is done on all atlas lions not a single one to date has come back pure. Idk if you meant 100% pure or “The most pure” in that case the Atlas lions in Morocco are the most pure. As a species they no longer exist, it's believed that they inter- bred with the south African savannah lion and many of those lions carry Atlas/Barbary lion traits down through the generations. Like this beautiful boy here having that black mane that runs along his stomach all the way to his genetals. That's a classic trait of a barbary lion, also of a cape lion. They live on in this way.

@@dreamhigh5250 to release a beast like a lion into the wild you have to make sure it has its home, this means that it needs a huge unspoiled environment full of large wildlife, such as, buffalo, zebra, and wildebeest (are you sure have all this in your country?) industries and intensive agriculture, have destroyed their habitat (fortunately the populations of central and southern Africa have better preserved their nature, therefore, lions still live free) releasing large social cats into the wild requires a lot of pristine space (for the reasons I described to you below, and for the fact that they are territorial, so they would easily conflict with other pride for the control of the territory with a little space available, and having more prides is essential, because to thrive in nature they need more pride to mix their blood (otherwise the puppies grow sick, as happens with men who always mate with relatives ....)
