I'm a big fan of Dr. Galpin's episodes, the more science the better. Good show guys.

Barbell University sounds like such an amazing idea! As someone who is in love with learning about exercise physiology and strength and conditioning in particular another way to expand my knowledge and supplement my learning while I'm at university sounds great. Hope you guys can get that going!

Great episode guys, I always love to hear the science&data perspective. "Education for science of exercise and physiology and how that applies to real training is not as good as it should be, cant find anyone that's doing it as well as we think it should be done, SO WE ARE TAKING IT INTO OUR OWN HANDS"...Very inspirational and a great example you guys are setting by taking this challenge head on. Keep it up Barbell Shrugged team.

Fascinating what Dr. Andy said about personal trainers in the future (i.e. being a part of hospital system, being integrated with insurance companies, etc...). Once he started going over all of that, my first thought was on what they are trying to do in Washington DC, where they want to make it so that all trainers have to go through a government licensing process before they can "practice" fitness. Basically, if fitness becomes more mainstream for disease prevention, could you see the government trying to regulate the industry?Any of the Shrugged crew (or Dr. Andy himself) have thoughts on that?
@danpow92859 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the reply (longtime listener/fan of the show). I agree with you, third party organizations should be the ones setting the rules/standards --- however, if fitness becomes a major part of how health problems are treated (in the US) in the future, I'm just wondering what that would look like if/when the government tries to step in and regulate. I mean, could you imagine the government trying to define what fitness is and try and tell you how to train your clients? There could be issues like this down the road.

That baseball bat analogy makes sense to me because swinging something heavier already takes a toll on your strength and power form the getgo, instead of swinging a wiffle bat which warms you up but conserves strength and power. hmmmm

Dr.Andy Galpin is probably the only person who is cool enough to have a muscle fiber in his pocket and not look weird :p I wonder what other nerds knew it was a fiber before it was mentioned :p
@juanschroth92119 жыл бұрын
Just wondering, but it seems to me that Dr. Gaplin is alluding to over speed training is more effective than something like PAP training? If so this is really cool.

QUESTION: so is there a place where we can find out elite athletes performance data to use as a baseline? Recently I had my blood work done and the base line the doctor used were the standard ones. As someone that trains hard everyday I feel this baselines does not apply to me.

+Chris Moore Thanks Chris you da man! The Overspeed jumping study really peaked my attention when you guys brought it up. Did you guys happen talk to Dr. Galpin after filming about if that less-resistance training could possibly be applied to, say, a rower (i.e. rowing at a lesser resistance to pull a faster 500m/1000m/...) or maybe even a short metcon like "Fran"?

@juanschroth92119 жыл бұрын
+Brendon Collins the study hasn't been published yet. Dr. Galling mentioned that since they found no statistical significance among groups, it might not get published. But of course they talked about how in science, finding statistical significance might not actually be significant when training individual athletes lol

Wouldn't it just be an issue of sensitization to the various effects of training? I'm not sure "increased communication" is the right phrase because it isn't changing the signaling per say, its just amplifying the effects.

He was running out Mastermind event. As the show progresses you're going to see more of an ensemble cast, where each week the hosts will be picked from our broad team of voices; from Chris, Mike, CTP and Doug, to Alex Maclin, Mike McGoldrick, Kurt Mullican, Dr Galpin, AJ Roberts etc. That way when someone from the regular podcast team are busy on other projects or out of town, you'll get to hear some of the other awesome personalities in the Shrugged crew. There will always be some familiar faces, but this way we can mix it up a bit.

Listening to these two guys explain about high amount of muscle mass and low percentage of body fat making you healthy was literally painful. That is not how human health has evolved to function nor is it the function of high amount of muscle to make you healty! For more information on the topic please feel free to read about evolutionary concept of fitness indicators and learn how and why! Also please let the man talk. No translation is needed!
