Auf die Romantitel-Frage von Françoise Sagan "Lieben Sie Brahms?" möchte ich als Hamburger rufen: Ja, sehr. Aber noch mehr schätze ich Abwechslung und Vielfalt in Konzertprogrammen! Barber wird hierzulande zu Unrecht oft auf sein Adagio reduziert und viele Werke auch seiner zeitgenössischen Landsleute so gut wie nie berücksichtigt. Schön zu sehen, wie Alan Gilbert sein norddeutsches Orchester allmählich behutsam an das Standardrepertoire seiner Heimat heranführt. Das Festival bildete einen mutigen, wichtigen und wertvollen Beitrag dazu. Danke! Asked about the title question of the novel by Françoise Sagan "Do you love Brahms?", as a German I would like to call out: Yes, very much. But I value even more variety in concert programs! In Europe, Barber is wrongly often reduced to his Adagio and many works by his American contemporaries are hardly ever considered. Nice to see how Alan Gilbert gradually introduces his North German orchestra to the standard repertoire of his native country. The festival made an important and valuable contribution to this. Thanks!

Wunderschöne Aufführung dieses fein komponierten Meisterwerks mit seidigen Tönen aller Streicher, milden Tönen aller Holzbläser und vor allem brillanten Tönen aller Blechbläser. Der intelligente und geniale Chefdirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im veränderlichen Tempo und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Einfach wundervoll!
