I was one of those cause I thought this movie could be stupid cause many movies suck recently. I was happy to be proven wrong though cause I thought movie wasn't bad and it was great many girls dressed up to see it. Also good people supported the Barbenheimer thing since movie theaters may be in trouble due to the strike. One last hoorah? We'll see.

There are some movies that come around that become cultural event films for moviegoers. The first Avatar, Black Panther, The Force Awakens, Endgame, and No Way Home are the most recent examples that I can think of. And now, Barbie joins that list.

Harry Potter is a mammoth of a franchise and it held the record for 12 years despite other strong releases. 👏 Barbie is achieving new milestones every other day. You're missing a lot of the points of why Barbie was so successful. It's not just cause of the studio. Women led this effort and have been craving a movie that puts them and their world center stage. In this awful political climate we need more uplifting movies that help empower, embolden and reimagine a world for women and by women that taps emotional intelligence, sexism and age-ism in creative ways. The same old scripts have been played out. May this inspire more movies and musicals like it! Boy do we need it!

Barbie is successful because it's the first live action, high budgeted movie about the most beloved girl doll for 3 generations. Young girls today are playing barbies, genZs and millenials that are now mothers used to love and play barbie dolls. And even 60 yr old grandmothers today used to play barbies back then. So the story and writing dont really matter that much. It is an event for girls and women.

I think one the biggest factors of Barbie’s massive success is that much like what I think would happen if they were to announce a new theatrical Barney movie it’s one of those properties that seems to have this weird, otherworldly hook to it, in both cases they’re properties that older audiences love to take jabs at and mock but at the same time if a new big Hollywood movie was being made about it it would still trigger this strange curiosity within those older audiences that would draw them into coming to see it

In the last four weeks, Barbie has closed the gap from almost a $52 million deficit to $18 million. I see it continuing to chip away to the point where they will finish quite close to one another. Obviously Barbie is a success, and I thought it was really good, but I'm begging movie news people to adjust for inflation. Case in point: when you get a raise, but it rises less than the inflation rate, you would rightly get upset because your real wage has fallen even though your nominal wage increased. So just because Barbie has passed HP:DH2 in nominal dollars doesn't mean it's made more money in real 2011 dollars. If you had the same salary in 2011 and 2023, you'd say you were making less money adjusting for inflation, so why can't we just do the same with movie grosses? Again, I liked Barbie and it's hugely successful in its own right, but it still needs $440M more to pass HP:DH2 in today's dollars. End rant lol.
