I thought the Barbie Extra dolls were perfect for this modern generation and to get them involved in Barbie collecting, Barbie playing and Barbie world. I hate saying "good bye" as these are the dolls I bought for my 7 year old grand niece. It definitely got her involved in collecting Barbies. Thanks for the video.

The Barbie extra were mainly the line I bought of modern Barbie’s! (I mostly collect 80s & 90s) I love that they come with extra clothes and accessories so you can dress other dolls..also I’m obsessed with fantasy hair colors ( before them I had to make my own using mermaid and fairy play line Barbie’s with made to move bodies) even the new line was great..I’m so sad..I’ll collect the ones I’m needing while they r on deep clearance

My daughter is almost 6 years old and suddenly getting very ‘into’ Barbie (with a little encouragement from moi :) I bought her the Extra 19 with the lavender hair and butterfly cardigan a few months back and she loves her so much. Now I’m furiously trying to buy up a few more before they start getting scarce in the shops. I just love the fashions, the individual pieces that came with each doll are great and can be mixed up a thousand different ways. I always loved dressing and redressing my dolls when I was a little girl, it was my favourite part and do magical! I’m so sad they are over 😭

Let's be honest; the quality is bad in general, plasticky fabric, pixelated faces, low-quality hair, and the designs of the last series haven't been mind-blowing. Plus, here in Spain are awfully expensive, and seldom have we ever seen them under €30 (and that's why they're collecting dust on the shelves).

Some of them were 45 Euro in Ireland upon release...the sad thing is we did not even get them all here. We only got 2 of the fly series. All the extras I do have I love but all very pixelated faces there's not really an excuse for that other than Mattel just don't give a F. I wish I could go back in a time machine and get the fabulous good quality dolls they used to make. I also wonder if they are gone forever what will take their place...Fashion fever 2.0 one can dream

I love Barbie Extra. If I has more money and more storage shelf I would buy most of them. For me they are beautiful and I love over-the-top style. Thank you for this video, which is the only explanation I could find out there about this line of dolls. There are a few Extras that I really like - the extra fancy with orange hair reminds me of Lilly Pulitzer prints and the pastel doll in the first group is just a great color palette.

I love the Extra Minis, my favorites are the purple hair and the glittery pink dress. The lavender bear hoodie doll was my first doll I brought into my freshman dorm last year, so she was my comfort object for that first semester and she means a lot to me. I don't have any full-size Extra dolls; I've come close to buying one a few times, but I just don't like their designs enough to commit. If I were to buy one, I would pick either the silver outfit doll or the doll with the Barbie-themed pink outfit. I prefer the Barbie Looks.

If true it's quiet sad that Mattel can't seem to quiet get it right, the Extra Line was fun and different, they need to start focusing on quality, no pixilaton, no cheap hair or fabric. I got the vanity and some of the dolls, actually I just did a room to display it. We need better quality, more articulation, better hair and fashions. I bought the vanity set solely for the doll. She has the prettiest face. I love that broad grin. I bought two. I donated both of the sets of furniture because I truly have no use for them. I wish Mattel would put the focus back onto the fashions and stop creating so much plastic accessory junk.

I actually liked the Barbie Extras but most of them needed a hair makeover ! I loved the hair makeover that you did! I watched all of your Barbie Extra makeover videos! Even though I liked the additional fashion “packs” for the extras but they had too many plastic accessories to make me 100% satisfied! I was though super impressed with the purple/black star moto jacket that had a zipper that actually worked! I also loved the blue/pink fur jacket vest and the green/ pink lounge cover up so cute! I just wished that they would have made one or two complete outfit sets for these dolls! But, I like you feel that Mattel will be retiring this series! Great video, btw! Enjoyed it very much!

Good Riddance! I appreciated Extra because it made Barbie about fun and fashion again, but the looks were tacky and corny af. The purpose of Extra was to compete with LOL, the same way MyScene with Bratz, and The Rockers with Jem. Hopefully this means the LOL dolls are no longer a threat.

I have a few Barbie Extra dolls, I did prefer the minis over the full size dolls. I bought the extra fancy in pink, on clearance. But I won't lie, I hesitated buying them because a lot of them just look tacky, they have so many different clashing clothes, and are just all over the place. The mini mini dolls were stupid, and pointless.

I loved several dolls from this line because of the braided or crimped hair and their really cute outfits. The Extra Fly dolls weren’t as nicely dressed but the Ken was a good buy. As with all things, we have to say goodbye. But you know there’ll be something new to keep consumers spending their hard earned money.💰 Another fabulous video with lots of great information. Barbie Extra actually got me into collecting this new era of Barbie and actually got Extra 1-10, the first Deluxe doll from the 5-pack and then #12. While I'm sad about the discontinuation, I wasn't surprised either. At the end of the day, this is still business - if they profit on them, they will continue and if they won't then they will cut it off. The problem is they over-produce them instead of having a specific number of dolls which could've helped with the sales. But overall, it is the quality and the design problem - when we look at the quality, we all know why but the designs... most of them are misses so I understand why Barbie collectors don't like them as much. The worse one in my opinion is Extra #13 - that's a mess, followed by #1 which could've saved if they put her on shorts and knee-length boots but no, they didn't. There are some dolls from the line that I would like to have still especially Extra #14 with that 80s Barbie outfit and Extra Fancy Barbie. I really hope to get them before they become rare.

Maybe Extra will be followed up by a spiritual successor with a different type of fashion sense, similar to how Extra has some similarities to the Barbie Style line from the 2010s. I've had 6 Extra dolls, 3 currently (14, 16, and Ken) but kept the clothes for the other 3 (6, 8, and 10). 6's pink bear outfit is one of my favorite Barbie outfits in years, so cutesy and fun, but I didn't like her hair. Many of these dolls weren't my taste but they were elevated by your beautiful makeovers.

I hope Mattel brings out something to fill the void left by Extra line. Something above basic fashionistas but still playline. I think the Cutie Reveals are cute and many of the dolls looks really nice but I never go back to their furry versions, so I could've just taken the doll and her fashions (that includes the reverse jacket because those I love). So even though the gimmick is kinda fun (and million times better than Colour Reveals), it's still a gimmick.

This is a fascinating conversation and does make me so sad! I’m so glad Barbie Extra/Extra Fancy has helped you be very successful. You have made great suggestions and hair styles that are great! Adding to this conversation, I have a niece who is four years old and she isn’t interested in Barbie Extra. Or a few I bought and opened, for me and their hair would be horrible and I wouldn’t know how to fix or style it. Some Barbie Extra line would come out and a few stores near me wouldn’t get them. So not everyone I got that I didn’t want to buy online.

I was really looking forward to the two new Fierce dolls.😢 The pastel girl in the first Extra line was my first one. I still love her. The Extra fancy pink Barbie blew my mind. I bought 4 of the logo dress girl for the outfit and box purse and sold 3 off the dolls. Fell in love w the crimped pink hair girl with pink and green outfits because it reminded me of Betsy Johnson fashion from the 80s. I'm still in awe of my Extra Ken doll and want to get a couple more from that line. I have 2 minis and one mini mini. Super video as always!

I had watched the video you referenced when it came out and continue to hope against hope it's not true. Maybe taking time off for a reboot? I bought the ones I liked, 2 or 3 of the main waves and passed on the ones I didn't. They were the most "extra" of all the dolls we are getting from Barbie lately so I will really miss them if this is the end. It's time to get back to the pink glamour of Barbie from the 80's and 90's.

See, for me, I'm the opposite of you. I *love* the pets. I only got the fashion packs for the pets, and I bought a few dolls for the pets as well. I also prefer the Extra Minis because I find regular Barbie too tall. I like 1/6, but 11.5 inches is too tall for me. She's also too thin and spindly for my feeling. I like RH bodies better. But in a mini doll I thought they were a lot of fun to play with. The mini minis are good as dolls for the dolls. I'm a jeans and tee shirts kind of guy so a lot about this line didn't fit for me, but the colours were super appealing. I only have 3 of the main girls, rebodied onto Project MC2 dolls, and the Ken, but I def wanted to see more extra minis.

I think I only got two Extras, plus the pink Extra Fancy, which is iconic to me! (I don't see her on sale on any websites over here.) A friend gave me a mini and a mini mini and I put them in my LOL Surprise dollhouse, but I like the OMG Tweens much better. One of the mini's stands broke immediately when I set it up. I loved many of the BMRs and I appreciated the Extras because they were interesting, imaginative, and cost less than the BMRs. I have a pretty huge collection of OMGs and prefer them to all the newer Barbies.

They only used the regular and curvy bodies in the Extra line. No petite bodies, no tall bodies, no super hero bodies. I gave the Extra Vanity doll a tall body. Which Extra doll would you give a petite body to?

I love Barbie Extra! Have all the core dolls and Extra Fancy. Only have the Ken from Extra Fly but may get the others. The Barbie Movie dolls should have been fashion packs. They are just the same core dolls with different outfits and are way overpriced. The Extra dolls really got me into collecting. Will be sad if they are discontinued 😢 On the plus side it will save me money lol 😂

I love Barbie. Obviously this line is Mattel's response to LOL OMG dolls. As Barbies they are nice but compared to LOL OMG dolls, they lack individuality, there are some dolls that look alike and the clothes came from one material. But at the end of the day, it made Barbie to be better at least. The quality of Barbie in general is truly declining esp the playline dolls and career dolls. If they don't have a competitor they will not improve their products.

If they bring extra, fashion, MTM body, real good quality dolls as collector, like similar to Barbie movie, but like MTM body with good quality clothes and no pixel face, saran hair, then yes, remove this budget line Barbie extra. Barbie extra line is for mature audience not for kids. Kids need playline, cutie reveal and such. B extra line could not deliver quality we need. So i don’t mind. Also if Mattel concentrate more on G3 Monster High thats good as well.

Low key I think the stores sabotaged the line, I live right across the street from a target and 5min from a Walmart, I haven’t seen barbie extra dolls in those stores since the beginning of the year, any dolls from the line this year I had to order online, so whoever does the buying for the stock in those stores I’m side eyeing them hard

Didn’t Mattel make them to give the OMGs a run for their money. They probably don't need to anymore. I see these alot at discount stores. The problem was the outfits were a eyesore for the most part.

To me it seems kind of wild how fast some of the doll lines are releasing new dolls. This many dolls in one line only in a few years? Why not decrease the numbers, add saved money in the quality and keep the dolls on the shelves a bit longer. The toy companies are really pushing on the consumerism and it seems like they are blind to alternative ways to make profit other than "produce more, produce more, produce more". They see first releases selling well, decide to make 100 more and are surprised when people can´t or even don´t want to keep up. I don´t need or want a million dolls.

I thought Extra #2 had saran hair? Maybe they replaced it? I just bought her now at a discount and she definitely has saran with a serious case of box hair, I had to rewatch your video to fix it. In fact, it just so turned out that all the extras I have bought except #5 have saran hair, which I'm happy with, and the #5 has braids that I love so it doesn't matter so much. Another thing, I ended up switching their accessories around to find better matches, so I think all of my extras look a lot more cohesive. As for extra minis, you can use their bodies and fashions with Chelsea's head to make an adorable fashionable and articulated daughter. For example, purple hair mini goes with chelsea singer and teacher career dolls. Of course you lose the purple hair, but the singer has green hair which makes her still cohesive with the extra theme and she has those ADORABLE cat ear headphones.
