Yeah, this was live. Barbra actually co-wrote this song with Paul Williams, and was the first woman to won a Oscar for Best Original Song. A Star is Born is a tale as old as time. The original was made in 1937. The first remake was made in 1954, starring Judy Garland (Dorothy from the OG "The Wizard of Oz"). Barbra's version came in 1976 and, recently, Gaga and Bradley's remake. Btw the original was inspired by an even older movie called What Price Hollywood, from 1932!

So true. But in a way, I kind of like this. Unlike almost all other artists, Barbra never liked to do a ton of promotion for her releases. Plus it was well before she started touring again....AND during a period when she was equally focused on her film career. Thus, even the peak of her superstardom - when she was unquestionably the biggest female recording act in the world - has not "generationally" carried over in the same way as other superstars (i.e. Aretha, Elvis, Sinatra). Both purposely and indirectly, her remarkable recording career (and voice) is much less known by younger people today. So I sometimes feel like I'm in a secret club of fans for one of the most successful recording artists of all time! And I like it!

Barbara is known for a out-of-the-park voice that's been around since at least the 60s. She later became a major actor with 19 major films to her credit. Streisand is lead actor in these movies and she performs songs in the movies. Three of her best movies are The Way We Were (also starring Robert Redford), Funny Girl, and Yentl.

I love her comedy "What's up Doc?" with Ryan O'Neil from the early 70's. Still funny today. Her duet with Ryan "You're the top" from the movie was not a single, but fun to listen to - shows what a great comic singer she is.

A Star is Born has been done 4 times. The first was in the the late 30's or 40's. Judy Garland was in the 2nd and Barbra Streisand/Kris Kristopherson in the 3rd, done in the 70's or early 80's. You might know Barbra from the movie Meet the Fockers. She started her career singing and then branched out into movies, mostly in comedic roles and adaptations of Broadway musicals: Hello DOLLY, Funny Girl. She has done some dramatic roles as well. Barbra also directs movies. Multi talented, a legend. One of the best female vocalists of all times. Check out her duets: A Woman in Love (Barry Gibb/BeeGee's), You Don't Bring Me Flowers (Neil Diamond) and Enough is Enough (Donna Summer)

There isn't an artist ever who's catalogue is worth delving into more than Barbra's so delve on, you won't find a disappointing selection. She's simply the GOAT! And if her face looks familiar to you, your Gen seems to recall her more as Roz Focker in "Meet The Fockers." Certainly a terrific comedic role for her, but far from her many other exceptional roles she's amassed. I highly recommend "A Star Is Born," "The Way We Were," "The Prince of Tides," and "Nuts" for drama; for more comedy (she was the queen of Rom-Com mostly in the 70s), "What's Up Doc," "The Owl & the Pussycat," "The Main Event" and "The Mirror Has Two Faces. Her musicals like "Funny Girl," "Hello Dolly," "On A Clear Day," and "Yentl" are iconic. But it's that voice, that incredible gift from God that she fine-tuned, finessed, and crafted with her innate ability to feel the lyric and deliver it straight to your soul that separates her from everyone else. As the late great lyricist, Marilyn Bergman, once said, "The best singer that any lyric writer could ever have."

Barbra is a powerhouse. She's the 2nd best selling female singer in America (Mariah Carey surpassed her last month). She's won Grammys, Oscars (for Best Actress and Best Original Song) and Emmys (for TV Specials). She doesn't act anymore, but she was the highest paying actress in the 80s. If you wanna hear her full power, look for the video clip for Piece of Sky (HD video in the channel "movieclips"), from the movie Yentl, which she directed, co-wrote, co-produced and was the lead actress.

Technically Mariah has passed Barbra, but not in reality because Barbra's count doesn't include the album from which this very song comes from -- A Star Is Born. That album is credited to the 2 individual artists instead of as soundtrack, so it's not included in Barbra's total (as, for example, The Bodyguard soundtrack is in Whitney's total - rightfully so IMO). If it were, Barbra's tally would be at 72.5 US units instead of 68.5 since it's certified quadruple platinum. It's just one of those quirks in the system that ends up excluding one of Barbra's best-selling albums (unfairly IMO).

Just to clarify, for those who might not be aware, the reason the RIAA does this is to separate acts that are/were part of another act when tallying their total units shipped-- such as Sonny and Cher or Paul McCartney and Wings. But in Barbra's case, I think it's unfair because she and Kris were never an official act -- it's just that the album was credited that way.

Seen all 3 movies, with Judy Garland, Babs and Gaga, Babs wins hands down in my world, probably cuz this is my fav of hers. ❤😁 My elder sis fav female artist, so I grew up with her on the record player and in movies. Babs has awards...EGOT. Her music is beautiful, her voice is phenomenal. Try my sis' fav, "The Way We Were" and "Guilty" with Barry Gibb is powerful! Any duet with any artist is popular. 👍🏽😊

Not knowing Barbra is like not knowing Elvis; damn near impossible ....ICONIC SINGER, DIRECTOR AND ACTRESS............her rabbit hole is deeeeeeeep...........One of my faves, among so many, is the video of her singing MY MAN from one of her movies.................Kris Kristofferson was a singer/actor..........he's not to be missed either. Barbra does a duet with Celine called Tell Him.....check out that video and she does a lot with Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees...........she is ICONIC...............another one of my faves is a duet with Bryan Adams called I Finally Found Someone.................gorgeous......she Seline and Whitney were the greatest female vocalists of the last fifty years.

There are 3 versions of that movie. I LOVE Barbara Streisand! She has a voice that moves you! That's Chris Christopherson with her. I was crushin on him so bad back then. Yes Lady Gaga plays that part in the movie. It's worth watching the last two "A Star is Born" movies. Barbara has a catalog that goes on and on. Some of my favorites are Woman in Love, The Way We Were, No More Tears, with Donna Summer. Like I said, I could go on and on.

The original “A Star is Born” is from 1954 with Judy Garland & James Mason. The Streisand/Kristofferson version is from 1976. The Bradley Cooper/Lady GaGa version is the 3rd one made.
