Troy the Ranch Fairy is awesome! He guided me through the process of changing to a higher FOC arrow and would respond to my questions or results very quickly! Sometimes faster than going through your local fast food drive thru! Remember there is the ranch fairy test kit available with the different weighted tips to see what weight your bow likes. I went to a 300 spine arrow and 250 grains up front so I went with the 100 grain brass insert and 150 Magnus Ser Buzzcut.... mini spear!

Troy I have learned so much from you. I did what you said building high f.o.c. arrows, the poor man's way. Due to a shoulder injury I switched from a 60-70 lb bow to a 50-60 lb bow. I took the arrows (cx300) for 60-70 bow and 8 .22 caliber lead pellets, for a pellet gun, swaged the skirts open and glued eight of them together head to tail. Each skirt on the pellet was slightly larger than the i.d. of the shaft. I took a wooden dowel and pushed them down to the back end of the insert. With 125 grain Broadhead or Field Point. I got slightly over 23% FOC. Arrows truly fly like darts off of my Hoyt Prohawk @53-55 lb with a 29"drawlength. I did the same thing with some inexpensive no name carbon arrows for my Mongolian horse bow @ 50lbs. 225-250gr seems to be the sweet spot like you said, I don't know why but it is. I am a disabled veteran with a very small fixed income I can't even afford to hunt now, but I'm grateful for you and your Channel. I have spoken to my friends about Dr. Ashby and the ranch fairy Channel. Thank you so much for the inspiration, if at some point I can afford to hunt one day, I will be sure to let you know how it turned out. Keep putting out those awesomely informative videos. God bless and take care.

Great video. My tuning steps: 1) get the arrow pointing straight in the rest, 2) shoot up close, 3) shoot far away, 4) adjust rest as required. I like Mr. Ranch Fairy's simple methods - the proof is in the results. Ted for President.

Seriously, a great simple informative video. Years ago there was little to no heavy inserts. I used to epoxy brass rod pieces to the end of the point insert. I did make the pieces exact in weight with the insert on the weight scale to get exact measurements. 50-75-100 grain plus the insert to within 1/2 grain. Back then bareshaft tuning was really not well practiced but grouping was the goal. I did try nock tuning some as I shot a whisker biscuit so it didn't matter. There weren't any fancy drop away rests. Mechanical broadheads weren't invented. Two and three blade fixed was about all there was. Fletchings were either very small for basically indoor or 3 to 4" for hunting and in retrospect they were pure junk. The goal then was to keep hits in a 3" circle at 30 yards was excellent results. We all just figured nearly everything we shot was around 30 yards. And in reality a 5" or 6" area is usually in the " kill zone ".

Back in the early days this is why we paper tuned our bows, the tear in the paper would show you if you had perfect arrow flight or not off the arrow rest. Ranch's way makes a lot of sense as well because it shows you how well or not well your arrow is flying further down range. That extra pt. wt. made all the difference in the world.
@sed6

Paper tuning is the next step you take after bareshaft tuning.
@joshk9195
@joshk9195 Жыл бұрын
@@sed6 In my opinion that is not true. Why would you bare shaft then go back to paper? Paper will help you adjust spine and bow to get bare shaft or fletched arrow bullet hole. Then you can go to distance and shoot bare shaft and fletched shaft to make micro rest and/or spine adjustments to get them hitting together and straight. The paper is just to make sure your arrow is not getting launched out of your bow sideways before shooting it at distance. You can then go on to group tuning or broadhead tuning depending on the arrows purpose

built some arrows last year 575 grains with a 350 spine and a 3 degree right helical. 70# draw at 28” every fixed 3 blade had a slightly left or right pull. granted could have been me, always except human error. the only thing i have changed this year is going to a 250 spine you will not be disappointed! i even drop down to 65# draw. this years arrow build was:- (sirius archery “volcon” 250 spine 100gr insert AAE max 2.6 fletching and a fixed blade 125gr). 15% foc total of 617gr. first knock tuning grouping at 20yrds i was damaging fletching. it’s not rocket science but but before hearing of doc. ashby and ranch fairy i was always hesitant and wondering if i was making/ taking a good shot even if it was a perfect situation. good job guys keep up the good work!!!!
