Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine kzbin.infoUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

That kid was my son. It was a 30# @ 24" bow with 380gn arrow going 155fps. Arrow was 225gn head with 75gn insert. Arrow went through a rib vertical on the entrance and still stuck in the dirt on the opposite side. The doe ran 80 yards in the open and did a faceplant. I think she weighed 130# dressed.

I am an old bowhunter (75) and I shoot a 28 inch 400 spine arrow with a 125 grain cut on contact broadhead @ 55 lbs. I also glue a 7 inch section of a 2016 aluminum arrow over the front end of the arrow up to the insert. That gives me approx 18% FOC. I pass thru every deer I shoot. I keep my shot to 25 yards or less. Thanks for the video.

There’s no doubt that what the Ranch Fairy is preaching is legit. It’s old school concepts, often times it pays to get back to basics. With that being said..... the archery part of the equation is a pretty big part. If you can’t hit what you plan to kill, well...... you can’t kill it. Doesn’t matter what kind of broadhead, or how heavy your arrow, or what the FOC is. There is a lot of forgiveness that comes with an arrow traveling “fast”. There’s a happy medium in there that is a balance of speed and arrow weight that will help you become the best bowhunter you can be. The most important thing is confidence. Be confident in your equipment and ability through practice and knowing your equipment. When the moment of truth comes if you are a nervous wreck and unsure of your equipments ability to perform then you’ve beat yourself before you even release the arrow.

Great stuff and good job Aaron asking the right questions and continuing to drill down on the basics! And of Course, the Ranch Fairy is classic, straight talking with supporting examples. I commend you all for making this a priority for bowhunting!!! I have two young daughters and a heavy arrow gives me and them confidence to be able to harvest any game in the world with archery tackle. Off-Season Video Suggestions: How we scout new public properties for deer, why we choose this stand spot (from a macro to a micro perspective); How about hill and farm country tactics. How many times, if at all do you pre-scout locations to determine where you're going to hunt this fall. Perhaps explaining your methodolgy with that. The History of THP, who, what, why, how, when on how you all got into this and why you started the channel! I got a ton of suggestions. I don't even watch regular TV anymore because of THP and other great hunting related KZbin channels!!! Keep up the great work and God Bless you all!!!

If you are serious climbing down the rabbit hole with arrow set up. Troy is the best out there. The man knows his sh..stuff. You posted this 3 years ago I watched it. Intimidated by exploring heavy FOC. I followed most all of Ranch Fairy's content for a year or two, still do. It wasn't until the past month that I dove head first into the test kit. Troy's recommendation of spine and insert weight coupled with the 5 different fp weights turned what I thought was going to be a nightmare into absolute fun. Testing different weight fp's with different spines ultimately provided me with 3 different arrow/fp/bh weights that would work. Ranging from 125 to 200 on a .300 spine. WOW. I love all of THP content. Following you guys for years. Keep up with your range of different related hunting content. It's awesome.

I've fallen hook line and sinker for this ever since your first video. Bought myself some 300 spine arrows that are loaded up to 780 grains and they are AWESOME!!!!! Finally feels like a lethal killing machine rather than a flimsy speed machine. Thank you guys so much for putting your crowd on to the Ranch Fairy. I am fully snorting the fairy dust and can't wait to sling it through a deer this October. I changed my arrow setup this offseason. My old setup was a total flapper at 335 grains total, which i shot with a fixed head. I killed two does with those and got pass throughs but i barely even hit ribs on those shots. Now i have a 560 grain setup and am getting some single bevel broadheads so i feel more confident aiming for the vital v. I was afraid of the bones up front and shot both does too far back, single lung and liver. I got both, but only because i backed out and came back later. I learned that from you guys. I can't wait to try my new setup this fall. 4 months until the season opens. I also got into saddle hunting and am excited about that. As far as content goes i like your hunt analysis a lot, maybe more of that? I am re-watching all your old videos, there is good info in all of them and you are a fun group to watch.

During the off-season I tend to focus on technical things and scouting. The Ranch Fairy episodes are great as you all provide context to the technical aspects he has on his channel. Supplementing it with your footage makes it more real. I also listened to the Shane and Doug dog tracking podcasts you did and got a lot of information, the more you can do like this will help prepare for next season. Seeing more the techniques behind mobile hunting both saddle and ground would be interesting. Finally, more info on big woods without ag fields will help us northeast big woods fans. Keep up the great work.

Love this stuff! I started bowhunting 30 years ago. We didn't care about FPS, really never even heard of it back then. We shot what flew the best. Still have those old aluminum xx75's with those huge 150-175 grain rocky mountain 4 blades. Troy has done hands on research on this topic. Results don't lie.

Back in the early 90s I hunted with 2314s carrying 90 grain Muzzys at about 65 ft/lbs KE.. Full pass throughs were expected. Just watched this for the 4th time (slow learner). Because of Troy's influence the last 2 seasons I've moved up from a 410 grain arrow I've shot for nearly 2 decades, to ~465 grain arrow with my favorite NAP KillZone mechanical heads, and have seen a return to full pass through hits like I used to get all the time. (Yeah I know...Still pre-puberty arrows) In 2020, I'll be shooting arrows in the low 500 to mid-500 grain range. Depends on what really flys well. It has been fascinating watching Troy's philosophy evolve that last 2-3 years. I'll be shooting arrows still behind where you are at today. I'm financially not able to retire all the broadheads I own and drop $100+ on new broadheads. However I've a set of 300 spine Easton ACCs now setup with steel inserts, and my choice of broadheads include: 130g Bear Razors, 125g Muzzys, and some very old (1980s) unused 180g Satellite CoC + removable bleeders that are 4" long. I'm going to measure FOC with the 3-4 main choices I've got. If the 180g Satellites fly, they will be the choice. My Darton 3800 will shoot them over 250 fps (31.5" DL) with a KE in the mid-90s. LORD willing 2021 will bring me a set of single bevel heads with a weight of 180-220 grains.

I would love more in depth/ in the field tips on scouting strategies. I know you guys have talked about it on the podcast but seeing what you guys pick out on maps and what you look for in the field on video would be even more helpful

These vids took an archer who is shooting quarters at 40 and took his deer down within 20 ft of the hit with mechanicals and ya just put me in a quandary

i love the way you hunt and film......all of you are so good at getting deer at close range.... i wonder why we don't see you hunting /filming "TRAD". THAT WOULD BE CRAZY. I could imagine Zach backing up a bit befor shooting .🤣

Maybe a tip video on how to get others involved in hunting. Took my sister turkey hunting for her first time hunting this season and she loved it and wants to deer hunt this fall. The Magnus Bullhead got her interested after 4 years of asking her lol. She did not care for the blind experience that much besides trying to kill me with gas at 5 in the morning but loved the Zach attack run and gun we did with bows!

I think I would like to hear about how you put your season together such as finding out about permits, areas to hunt, places to camp. Not showing where but explaining how you got to that point. Love the channel guys. Troy, im still working on my arrows. Got some 250's but way too stiff for my 60 Impulse34, waiting on some 300's.

How about a podcast on tips for how to be more successful at gaining permission to turkey or deer hunt on private land. Another idea would be a video on picking the right setup once you find a hot spot (picking the right tree, playing the wind, hunting height, setting up for strong side shots, how far away from the sign should you set up, ...)

Going to rethink my arrow setup. Between the story about the 9 year old and the statement about only losing 10 feet per second I’m sold on the idea. Should be fun trying something that, in reality, should be better for hunting

I love this. Shooting rx3 ultra 65# 30” draw and 570 grain arrows. I can shoot out to 100 yards without my fletching hitting my sight housing. I’m still thinking about going heavier with my new arrow but not much maybe 600 or 625.
