Nothing compared to what you're doing nick, but i started running 6 weeks ago and working out. Yesterday marked 6 weeks strong of 4 workout a week and 3 runs. On the end of 5 weeks I ran my first 5K at 28min 7sec. Im now gonma shoot for a 10K on November 9th. Keep working Nick. You're doing great things.

Nothing compared to what you are doing Brandon..... I started running a few weeks ago with my fat ass...and i managed to push trough and made it to a 5k instead of quiting after 1 or 2 km...it took me a shitty 39minutes 0seconds (yes, it was exactly 39minutes). I'm aiming to increase that time to get to what your timing was and maybe then also look at going for something longer... :)

I did another triathlon last weekend. First pub I drank beer, 2nd pub I drank spirits and then at the third pub I drank more beer. I did a lot of training to complete that triathlon in the 4 hour time. Man I was feeling it the following day but I felt the training I did really helped me out.

hoka running shoes tend to make you over-stride because you can’t feel the ground with all the cushioning. this over striding and heel striking is seen in the thumbnail which leads to shin splints. i recommend either getting less cushioned shoes or focus on increasing your running cadence which has many benefits. try downloading a metronome and practice running listening to 180 spm cadence. as for shoes, the brooks adrenaline gts 19 have good cushion but not too much and provide lots of support.

Hey I have caught a few of these ironman training videos. I have not competed in an Ironman but I am a runner. I know you are running on a treadmill (so that can through off you gate and stride) but if you freeze at 17:10 in the video I can see your running form. Two tips: You want to lift your leg a little more in the back kick because you are heal striking a little more then you would like. We call this "reaching with the heal". This causes increased impact on your hips and lower back. So the wear and tear can start to add up. This is not a big deal now because you are young but the sooner you get this fixed the longer (distance and in age) you will be able to run as you get older. Best of luck with your Ironman!

Yeah you guys were close to the race. 30A Is just considered the "nice beach" Grew up in PCB. I was going to say had I known ahead of time I would have suggested ride to HWY 79 then go up 79, that's the route you'll do for the Ironman for a good portion of it. It'll also have the only big "hill" which is going over the bridge..

Just a heads up, “training on tired legs” is very different from training on legs that have just gotten off a bike. You’re interrupting your body’s natural recovery cycle and it’s sure to lead to pain and injury at some point if you do it consistently. A “More is always better” mindset does not lead to good things
@rubricscube_
@rubricscube_ 5 жыл бұрын
Lots of people run twice a day though...as long as you do a similar volume to what you would do in a single run that day, the recovery is actually better. Doubles allow you to do more volume with similar overall fatigue.

teefurtree no one said doubles were bad. But in nicks case, as a first season triathlete, with the amount of overtraining that he’s already doing, they’re just plain stupid. And still, I stand by what I said, most people (meaning non pro athletes and gym bros like our friend nick here) have a natural recovery cycle that can take as long as 30 hours for a single muscle group. Yes I’m aware the pros do doubles all the time, but they also nap between workouts, and are gifted with some of the fastest recovering bodies on the planet. Also most have years of experience. This is just plain stupidity though.

Hey Nick, I think I got a really important tip for you: do at least one small training triathlon event to practice the swimming in a big messy bulk of athletes. I did a sprint distance today, which was the first one after quite some time, and really struggled during the swim although training extensively for tgat (my swimming volume and intensity quite a bit higher than yours, as far as I can tell). The reason for my struggle wasn't my physical fitness, which was great today, but my mental fitness, which was quite low due to my grandfather beeing on his death bed. In that situation, I couldn't handle all the kicking in the water by my fellow athletes and almost bailed out. I don't know how secure you are in the water, but especially if you aren't fully comfortable yet, you should have the experience of getting kicked in the face at least once before. I would have had no problem swimming the 4k today in a pool, but struggled really hard to finish 500m in the bulk

@heikkisanelma6625
@heikkisanelma6625 5 жыл бұрын
yup, i menat his "aerobic" runs might get too high to the gray zone effort, so should run easier more often.. avoid the trap of running too comfy in the false easy speeds... they extract too much out of the system for the gains, its perfect for the closing weeks pre race, as its the effort u run ironman but not whole multi month prep towards the race.. so one should get te tests done to make sure to get most out of the training, not to go too hard when suppose to go easy and not to go too easy when supposed to go hard - because u've been over reaching the whole time already...
