How to prepare for officer? I’ll summarize it: 1) Don’t get visible tattoos. 2) Don’t get into legal trouble/arrested 3) Have a college GPA of at least 3.0 4) Get used to operating on no sleep 5) Prepare for homesickness and missing your woman. Make sure family is in order because you won’t have time to talk to them. 6) WORK OUT. Do pull-ups, push-ups, curl-ups, and LOTS and LOTS of cardio and HIIT training. Lifting wouldn’t hurt. 7) HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE.

I want to start with saying that my following input is meant as constructive and in no way disrespectful: “Running until you puke,” this mentality works. I agree with your scientific fitness theories, wholeheartedly. But, as the Raider says, you don’t always have time to do things “appropriately,” because of field time and so on. So, military fitness have to be foundational and built on mental fortitude, going full force and breaking down barriers as you go. This builds resilience in fitness and cognitively, which you know all to well Nick, Soldiers MUST have to be effective, especially in combat. So, the “old-school” “hooah” mentality towards fitness is absolutely effective, and is a product of doing more with less to get the mission done. Also, the term “military-athlete” is good, but it means something completely different then say a football player... it means being well-rounded, have a high-level of endurance, and adaptable overall. There just is so “one-size-fits all” solution to this style of physical readiness, because the mission changes every day. I do live your “hybrid-athlete” approach to fitness, because I think it’s most applicable to military fitness. I hope all that makes sense, again just a constructive argument, this is just my take on military fitness! Love what you do man.

Very true what they said.. on many of the points actually. You basically need to train according to what you want to be a part of. A military personnel may not be an athlete of some sport org but he or she is still an athlete, only difference being they represent what protects the country. An athlete who can still think despite prolonged exhaustion or lack of sleep. An athlete who can go on auto pilot when their brains are drained and taxed beyond limit to finish their objectives and mission. Enduring the heat, sweating, skin tearing from the weight of your rifle slings and equipment, getting wet and then cold, then drying up and having to move on the next morning it’s tough business. It makes preparing for physical tests in camp or going to the gym look like heaven sometimes. Great video anyway keep it up @Nick Bare

At the 11 min mark when you both say you wished you had found functional fitness training (CrossFit) really needs more emphasis, CF has a stigma around it where dudes think its gay but I wish I did that shit when I was in, my career would have been totally different. Also, where I live in AZ, there is a jump school for seals and when they're here they drop into my box and do CrossFit, so don't let people tell you SF guys aren't doing it.
@Filipmalek16 жыл бұрын
The main problem with 'functional fitness' is that people simply do not understand that you cannot get really strong and have great cardio endurance unless you are a freak of nature. Even then you wont be as half as strong or as endurant as you could be if you focused on only one aspect of fitness. My tip would be to do mostly weight training in begining which will spark your metabolism and later on (1-2 years later) you start doing cardio. Your body wants to do either one of the other not both. Everyone that says otherwise or proves otherwise is using PED's. Thats not a problem really since army gives it to a lot of guys but lets assume you dont wanna use them.

Lets just keep it simple, all you need to do is ruck, run, and do pull ups and push ups. But keep the effort at around 70-80% until it is time to go all out.
@danielbush26376 жыл бұрын
William Wellham What weight and distance would you recommend for ruck marches?
@WilliamWellham336 жыл бұрын
As a general rule of thumb keep your pack around 45lbs for long distance rucks, I define long distance as anything over 4 miles. Anything heavier and I would recommend keeping the distances under 4 miles to avoid injuries. But everyone has different levels they can push themselves with out getting injured. You will hear dudes talking about rucking with 85lbs for 10+ miles, but unless you need to do something like this for unit training or special operations selection I would avoid it, because your just going to hurt yourself.

The National ROTC scholarship is very competitive as you’re competing with everyone across the nation, campus based is usually much much more easy to get as usually you just need a certain GPA to apply then it’s 100% guarantee. So for a 1.5 mile is 13:36 most of the branches under the youngest age bracket, so I have to run and destroy the 1.5 miler completely under that time if I'm following is to run 400 meter sets in sub 2 minutes per set over and over gradually increasing the work sets per week and I'll pass? Help me out if I'm wrong, no need for trolling or fuckery please.

Nick, I’m in ROTC currently as a freshman. It’s been hard to get my diet down in college. Is there any way you could make a video about the best simple recipes for dorm living to help myself and my fellow cadets stay on a progressive path? Thanks man, love your content and products!

How do you maintain mass and strength but still keep running an 11:30 2 mile? As soon as I start training up to deadlifting and squatting anything over 4 plates my run time dramatically decreases

I am 5'4 and weight 120. I am able to do a mile in 11 minutes. What would be the best workout to prepare myself for the National Guard? I know I'm nowhere close to being ready.

1 question: You talk about not over-training your body but in for example BUD/s you overtrain the shit out of your body. How are you suppose to train for something like that?
