I like how Anubis was portrayed here, not as the God of Death or the Underworld which is often a big error in most Egyptian mythological movies. Instead he's a guide which he was the god of funerary rites. Osiris was the God of the Underworld. Of death and rebirth.
@ThaiNguyen-zf5zi Жыл бұрын
Anubis is the equivalent of Charon. They ferry the dead to the underworld. Technically, Osiris is god of the dead (just the realm of the dead); Nephthys is the goddess of death. Just as Hades is the god of the dead - Thanatos is the God of Death.
@xaina22210 ай бұрын
The concept of the underworld is tainted by the notion of hell from Christianity, for most of religions, it is simply a place where dead people go.
@lesigh174910 ай бұрын
@@ThaiNguyen-zf5zi If you are going with Greek equivalents, he is the equivalent of Hermes who fulfills the same psychopomp role in Greek Mythology. In later Ptolemaic Egypt some temples even merged the two gods into Hermanubis, Basically A jackal-headed Anubis in a Greek exomis.
@ThaiNguyen-zf5zi10 ай бұрын
@@lesigh1749I’m pretty sure Hermes is the equivalent of Thoth. Not Anubis. Thoth and Hermes are both gods of language and written words. The Greek even named the city dedicated to Thoth “Hermopolis”.
@lesigh174910 ай бұрын
@@ThaiNguyen-zf5zi In Greek mythology one of Hermes' roles is Psychopomp, he guides the spirits of the dead to the underworld, which is the same role Anubis holds in Egyptian mythology after he is rolled into the Osiris myth and becomes merged with the role of Wepwewet. Hermes is also the Herald of the gods so may be associated with Thoth in the sense of being a scribe, but no other greek god conducts dead souls like him, so he is the closest analogy for Anubis.
