Yup. Nobody did. The manga fell behind and didn't get to this point until MONTHS later. And even then, Goku's trump card in the manga was the red super saiyan god form.....A literal downgrade.

Seeing the Kaioken was a surprise because Goku didn’t rely on it too much after unlocking SSJ and so forth. So, that technique being brought up after all this time, combined with god ki was a treat.🙂

He can't use it with ssj, he only can with ssjb because of the ki control. Ssj is just triggered by rage, less control.

Yes, it would be interesting and it looked really cool in the filler. The technique and form just don't mix right, we have off the wall stuff in DB all the time so it's nice to have limiters and what not.

I cannot describe how much hype I felt when Masako Nozawa called out Kaio Ken when this was first airing. Say what you will about dumb Goku and how the art is sometimes sub-par, but SUPER BUILT THE HYPE when it was coming out. I never missed a single air-date. Including the special hour premiere of Goku vs Jiren.

Back then this was the first awesome moment in DB super. The hype was unreal!! Also, the song that they played during the kaioken assault is the first DB super opening, which is absolutely great! I can't believe Madison hasn't seen the opening yet. WTF

Saiyan and Frieza saga are my favorite of all. Had always hoped for the return of Kaioken, one of my favorite DBZ moves. My favorite fight in entire DBZ is Goku vs Vegeta, the first fight. The beam struggle with Vegeta and Goku pushing to Kaioken 4 from 3, through a black/white art look. Also another favorite, when Goku reaches Namek after 100 times gravity, so controlled, saving all of them, making Ginyu force look ridiculous - Recoome/Burter/Jeice fight, power up to 180000, getting the best of frieza for a while, and the legendary super saiyan scream and art with white eyes and veins popping from his neck. The ally to good nightmare to you. Wow, the classic and best of DBZ... And Kaioken was THE POWER UP MOVE till we witnessed super saiyan.

A nice detail about the SSJ Blue Kaioken is that the aura looks like a blue flame with the red outer core. That's great design work from the artists that imitates a real life representation of fire.

This episode embodies a lot of what I love of Super. A large portion of DBS is all about strategy and out maneuvering your opponent. It's not just brute forcing every problem which a lot of the back half of Z felt like. This Tourney and the TOP are my favourite sagas.

@@SwagimirPutin Honestly I feel like even Goku's personality, which gets shit on pretty frequently in Super is a callback to his Dragon Ball naivety. Whether that was the right decision for a sequel, I don't know. Perhaps there was a balance to be found there.

@@TheSyncos It's definitely a callback. The thing with Super is that he doesn't take anything seriously because there is no real threat. It's just a challenge to him which is well within his character overall so he can have some fun with it. The next arcs have him acting way more seriously as the threat is there. As much as I like the English dub Goku being serious all the time, the Super version of Goku is more true to his roots.

kaio ken , its sooo good. I remember theres only one time goku used kaio ken with normal super saiyan and it was against pykon . its too dangerous with super saiyan. thats why with blue he has better control and we never seen kaio ken since the frieza arc.
