Күн бұрын

Barry has lived in a tunnel underneath Las Vegas for two months. The tunnels are massive storm drains running under the city. luckily, Barry has yet to experience a rainfall, but his bed and everything else is propped up several feet off the ground just in case.
It's hard to say how many people live in the storm tunnels beneath the neon. In a way, it's safer than living out in the extreme heat, yet in another, it's like living in a weird science fiction movie. Dark, dirty and completely different than the 'normal' world. I've been to lots of places where homeless people live, and going into the tunnels was a very surreal experience.
Like many homeless people, Barry is caught in the madness of bureaucracy. Because he has been to prison many Nevada social services won't help. And because he has only lived homeless for two months he is disqualified from others. Of course, finding work is near impossible.
That does not stop him from having dreams. He wants to go to culinary arts school. He wants to better his life. He wants to get out of the dark tunnels.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, a living wage or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Each year, our groundbreaking educational content reaches more than a billion people across the globe. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

Listen, I work at a smoke shop in the hood and see + interact with tons of homeless people every day, and let me tell you: none of these people, and I mean *NONE*, are in that situation through any circumstances other than the ones they created through insane bad decision after insane bad decision. Notice how he says his backpack had "money...some family recipes..." and that's it? lol nah. Barry is an addict whose mind is going. People don't like to admit that because it feels mean and dismissive, but it's a fucking fact. These puff pieces about homeless people who are just regular citizens down on their luck are a lie, they're all done by gullible do-gooders who are naive enough to take the words of addicts at face value.

@@smelly_nut_hut2776 And you know what? F*ck you! My dad was 10 times the man you could even attempt to be. How can I say that without knowing you? easily, as I've met many many men throughout my life (Im 52) and rarely any of them were half the man my father was. Men just arent made the same as they were in my dads era. He raised me by himself and got custody of me in 1970. Men raising their children alone back in those days was a rarity, so much so that a magazine wrote a whole 3 page article on my father for doing so in the early 70s. Also, my dad had so many skills. He could, and has, built a house from the foundations up. He did EVERYTHING, the wiring, the plumbing, plastering, hanging doors etc ETC...EVERYTHING. He was a champion fisherman with trophies for it. He did up boats in his spare time, he fixed car engines, he could cook great, I could go on and on. So maybe nobody here cares my dad is dead but thats no reason for you to comment on it you nasty pr*ck.

I've been homeless. It isn't easy to conquer it. It's you literally against the world. Most people will shun you, belittle you, and turn the other way. There are those who help, but there are a lot of homeless people and only so many helpers. That storm drain is better than the bush I claimed next to a concrete wall. It was a nice shelter, except the loud train going by daily.

You can be without money if you can be self sufficient. Thing is, we humans are not designed to be. Even if we all could run off into the wilds, build a house, start a farm, make our own weapons to keep ourselves safe, eventually we long for a life filled with movies, video games and music because we get bored. And if youre too self sufficient, say you can make your own electricity, make your own entertainment, eventually someone will come knocking on the door and say that youre taking something from them, so you should pay them. Your very existence will create demands from others.

What humans need to do, is get back to our old ways of currency: bartering.

I, like literally EVERYONE who has seen this video, or will see this video, have signed a petition for the FBI to sue this youtube channel for lying about having "invisible" people. I have seen every movie about invisible people, from the one starring kevin bacon to the one starring the guy that wasn't kevin bacon, and let me tell you, these people are definitely not invisible. The fact that I have been deceived in this fashion has literally destroyed my entire life, left me without my 90 room mansion even! My butler has to handle it for me. It's just horrible, really.

Yea man as a guy who was homeless for 6 months I know what his head is like, in the first week or two it is very rough, but as time goes by you learn to adapt, your mindset goes from "oh my god what am I gonna do" to "hey my feet don't hurt this morning today's gonna be a good day". Each person's different tho and it's one of those things you won't know how you'll react unless you actually do find yourself in that position.
