I didn't know Barry Norman had such a fascinating life before he presented "Film...." Living to a ripe old age and passing away in his sleep is a nice way to go. I remember him reviewing "Buster" starringPhil Collins in the title role and he was scathing. What affects the Jonathan Ross film programme is his being very well known beforehand. With Barry Norman, he just seemed to appear on tv one night and he wasn't too well-known at the time and lots of us grew up with him.

Many thanks Paul, Barry Norman's background was fascinating and nice to see his grave, it wasn't just what Barry Norman said it was his delivery and the way that he said it, I always tuned into the film program even if you didn't like the film he was reviewing it was always great to watch him in action.

What a blissful setting for such a pleasant man. No other host was anywhere near as good as Barry in my opinion, he was so fascinating and easy to watch and he gave the films he was reviewing an interesting in-depth critique. Glad to see he has such a picturesque and very cinematic resting place. What a beautiful dawn sky, you picked the right day. 😁👍

Barry Norman did a lot for charity in stevenage, he was chairman of Stevenage community trust, it helped people who were down on their luck who couldn`t pay their bills, and that kind of thing, i`m pretty sure he was a Govener of a special school in stevenage too, i regularly used to see him shopping in Sainsburys, (everyone buys potatoes) he was very generous with his time, and looking out for others. The church at DAtchworth is a lovely church and can been seen from many vantage points arouns stevenage

What a lovely video, Barry Norman was the Man THE BEST nobody has come near him apart from Sir Michael Parkinson with regard to Film Reviews he knew his stuff if Barry said it was good it was! When he passed they gave him a lovely tribute, the Front Cover of Radio Times leaning on a stack of Film Cans was a superb picture, I have it framed. His Autobiography, "Memoirs Of A Film Lover" - And Why Not? Is a super read very witty in places he had a dry sense of humour I miss him not being around so much, he was such a well respected man in the film industry. Whenever I hear the famous theme music to his programme it always brings a smile to my face, this was Barry's Theme! So nice to see his final resting place with his beloved wife, many thanks for posting this so interesting. RIP Diana & Barry. - Mark - Ex Cinema Projectionist - Wallasey - Wirral. 3/7/22

Barry Norman's father was also the producer of 'The Cruel Sea' (which you mention) and also directed many episodes of cult tv favourites like 'The Avengers' and 'The Saint' in the 1960s. His father also died of lung cancer aged 81. And although you didn't pick up on it, I notice the grave next to the one you visited was for an 'Oliver Norman' who I believe was one of his grandchildren and sadly died just a few months after being born. Incidentally that churchyard looks so peaceful and quiet. What a beautiful place to be laid to rest in.

Barry was also a great influencer on thr film industry. His criticism of films that seemed to celebrate films depicting violence against women was widely supported. I also recall his story of when he interviewed John Wayne and laughed when John suggested America should send troops into a situation with which he politically disagreed. Barry thought he was joking. John's assistants had to literally hold John back from attacking Barry who terminated the interview! Your series bring back odd memories of your subjects. Thank you.

It was great of you to get up so early to visit this beautiful little church yard, and with the glorious pinky/red Dawn sunshine warming the earth and lighting the sky, church and even your face. Did you notice there were just four days between his birth and his wife’s, same year, month, just four days apart. I miss Barry still doing that program…times move on so quickly these days, I don’t suppose there is s place for it anymore, but more is the pity. Thankyou Barry for the years of pleasure you gave to so many of us who watched and listened to.
