Personally, I almost always prefer the studio version of songs. It's nice to hear a different slant on a great song, but usually the studio is where a band will sculpt the sound into something approaching what's in their heads. That's the ideal, anyways. Loving your reactions, guys❤

I agree. The live versions are often hard to understand and sometimes the audience sings parts instead of the band, which can be hard to get the lyrics. First time listening to a song should be studio version. However, also, unfortunately, this video, much like a lot of early videos, had nothing to do with the lyrics. It was great cinematic artistry, but it was telling a completely different story to the song.

I know other people have mentioned it but the live in Paris 1970 and it is really great so I just thought I would echo that sentiment 😊 They hadn’t even recorded it yet so the lyrics are a bit different but same message. Bill Ward is amazing on drums. Glad you did the studio version first.

Sitting in 1970 Junior High School Social Studies class as 12 year old kids, our daily assignment was to watch Walter Cronkite on the nightly news tell us how many American 18 year old boys had been killed that day in Vietnam that day, write it down, and report it in class the next day. War Pigs was our theme song. We'd look at each other and think, "Man, I hope I'm not one of the numbers future classes report in class a few years from now." I lucked out. The draft ended before I was 18. My Cousin wasn't. He went over on a tour, saw too much, came back and shot himself.

Do the Paris 1970 live version. Be prepared thou, because the lyrics is based on an earlier version. So they aren't the same as it is on the studio recording. Doesn't matter much, because it's a electrifying performance anyway. Especially by drummer Bill Ward, beating on the drums with the thick end of his sticks.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed this song. One of the most underrated aspect of Black Sabbath is the duo of bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. Without these two powerhouse Sabbath's sound wouldn't be the same. They are regarded by many musicians as one of the best rhythm pair in Rock and Metal that ever performed together.

Great original audio, that was the way to go BUT not with the fan made video that is just a distraction. Don't feel bad, others do it too. Back to this amazing song, it is Ikonic and always relevant. My favorite live is than doing it at the California Jam 1974. Incredible set in front of 250,000 who were also there to see Deep Purple and ELP amongst others. Great sets by everyone there, it was amazing to see it live, simulcast on the radio in stereo and out my 100 watt per channel speakers! Those were the days, great music was the norm, you need to do Sabbath's first 6 albums, those are right there with Led Zeppelin for best 6 albums to start a career. They influenced every heavy band that came after. They were as good live as in the studio, saw them 13 times. Seeing Ozzy & Tony Iommi at point blank range is something I'll never forget. They are both about evil, politics and war as fun games of mass manipulation and control, banalization of life and death, dehumanization, and even justice and reckoning. The end of the video in which the bloody blindfold is carried up by the wind , after the girl let it go (and presumably being murdered too for her brave and humble act of defiance), can be interpreted as the blood of the innocents crying out for justice and being taken by God who is going after the higher-ups. Don't you agree?

Here’s my OZZY/Randy Rhoads story: My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛‍♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom

The fact that you listen to the original studio recording of a song before listening to any live versions sets you guys apart from the pack and makes you guys that much better. There is a video of a live version in Paris. It's intense. That was in 1970! In Ozzie's intro. to the song, he tells the audience, "this is a new song called "War Pigs" (paraphrased). It was the height of the Vietnam War, but from what I read about the song, and this beautiful video it's really about what the UK went through during WWII. Sabbath are the OG's of Metal. I was 9 when this came out. The 60's and 70's, for many teenagers, were just one decade!

HA!!! Loved the “stank face” during the solos. Ozzy’s singing definitely evolved over the various albums they did. His early vocals ( Ironman, for example ) were kinda rudimentary. Love watching your journey into the music that I grew up with. I am of a certain “vintage” that still gets chills when I hear air raid sirens. Lead guitarist Toni Iommi, lost his finger tips in an industrial accident before they went full time. He moulded new finger tips using very hot plastic that he found at his home! That is on the hand that he uses to play!

The first time I went to a concert was Feb 1971 to see Grand Funk Railroad at The Forum. We never heard of the opening act which was Black Sabbath. Needless to say we immediately bought the Paranoid album and wore it out every day for weeks. To our surprise we soon discovered their debut album Black Sabbath and you must react to the title track "Black Sabbath". On the Paranoid album I recommend "Fairies Wear Boots" and "Hand of Doom". I'm glad you have chosen to check out the studio version of these songs before going to the live versions.

The squeaking you hear during guitar solos are metal thimbles are the fingertips of Tony Iommi. He had a sheet metal accident at a young age and cut off the tips of two of his string fingers inventing metal thimbles to extend his fingers to play.

This is the song that turned me into a metalhead. I heard this song in 1974, I was eight years old. From that point on metal has been my main music. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a period where music was great. I listen to and love most music. Metal, rock, blues, soul, jazz, oldies(50s music) and classical music. But metal is just a different beast. The meanings to so many of the songs, the talent of the musicians, are just on another level. “ Day of judgment God is calling, on their knees the war pigs crawling, begging mercies for their sins, Satan laughing spread his wings,” my favorite part of this song. Greatest war protest song ever and probably still relevant in 200 years. Glad you did the studio version first. The melodic part at the end of the song is sooo epic. "Faith No More" actually covered that song on their album "The Real Thing" and they have a great live version "Live at Brixton Academy". Maybe you'll check that out some other time ;o).

Great to see you both enjoying that. One of the first metal bands. It is true that there is an erroneous belief that metal is listened to by thicko's & the bands that play it have no musical ability. That cannot be further from the truth. Heavy Rock/metal is listened to by true music lovers & the bands themselves in many cases pure music legends. My suggestion.. Check out Ozzy Osbourne's: 'Crazy Train' (1980).

I still have this album, I bought it ne in 1976. Iommi was a huge influence on me picking up the guitar and playing in bands. Now it's for self enjoyment only. My favorite Gibson' guitars are all loaded with P90's

Just found your chanel and enjoying your reactions! Since you working out you neeeed to check out a swedish band named Meshuggah! The only song you need in your workout playlist is their song Bleed. Live version ofc and specially the drum cam version because the drums are a big thing in this song! When I work out I put this one on repeat 😂 It's a heavy song so put the seatbelts on. Rock on!
