This is a new and fantastic live version of the song, with the wonderful echoes of the church that make it even more magical her voice, I would listen endlessly to her wonderful and powerful voice with that incredible low register of her and those wonderful progressions, I admire her fantastic musical sensitivity more and more, it seems impossible, but every song, simple or complex, which she rediscover becomes a new and splendid song. For me she is simply unique and with an incredible melodic perception. The audio is a studio recording that was done prior to the tapping of this music video. But Angelina put out a real take from this church setting, it's also on her channel. It starts a cappella, and has that as a hint plus the church's name in it's title.They also performed as this trio at the Palladium in London, there is a quite good recording of it on another channel.

When you said Toby watching her in awe... I thought, that was me at her LA concert. My 1st time seeing Angelina live and I'm sure I had a silly, blissful grin on my face the entire time. He is a Grammy award-winning songwriter and producer, who has co-written many songs with some of the top-tier artists, perhaps most notably "All Of Me" with John Legend. Then when Toby did his piano diaries series he asked Angelina to reinvent it for him. Well she did and he loved it, So much that he signed over the copy rights to the song to Angelina . Toby Gad co-wrote this song with BC Jean who's the original artist and he later on arranged and produced Beyonce's famous cover. When he these days decided to revisit a couple of his famous "old" songs for his album "Piano Diaries" sung by up and coming artists he said considering this song there was only one voice that he felt right about ... btw if an Angelina cover does'nt sound different to the original (but capture the essence of it neverteless) it's not an Angelina cover. This is a studio recording dubbed over the church video - there's another video called "Angelina Jordan - If I Were A Boy (Live Acapella At Saint James Church)" which shows a take from this church with original sound including "church reverb". As it turns out, Toby is quite keen on Angelina's voice.

You referred to Beyoncé’s as the original. But hers was a cover too! The original was by B.C. Jean who co-wrote it with Toby Gad. By the way, if you were not aware, that’s Toby playing the piano. This was a collaboration between him and Angelina to revamp the song and breathe fresh life into it. I think you’ll agree that they succeeded! 😊👍

A cover only in the sense that what Beyoncé made was a cover of the song written by BC Jean and Toby Gad, originally performed by Jean in 2008. Beyoncé's cover was that same year. In this video the pianist is Toby Gad .. yes the same co-writer of the song .. the Piano Diaries are a celebration of his hit songs.
