Why does it have to be termed or phrased harder hits ? Why is there this assumption that everybody wants something that's hard fast crazy and all over the place. There are people out here who love hard rock that is melodic. But I guess it's not cool hip and edgy to think and speak that way.

@@darrinashby9019 Yes. Ann Wilson has a 3.5 octave range, with full control at both ends; Pat Benatar has a somewhat broader range: 4 to 4.5, again with excellent control at both extremes. Those two women show that range, per se, is not the main criterion for vocal excellence. Another female vocalist with a 3.5 octave range who had complete control throughout is Karen Carpenter.

Pat Benatar owned the late 70's thru the mid 80's. Her portfolio of hits is extensive! Now everyone one here does reactions to songs such as "Hit me with your best shot", Hell is for Children", "Love is a Battlefield", and "Shadows of the Night, but some of her lesser known hits are just as amazing and are not given the same respect. If you want to delve deeper into the Pat Benatar rabbit hole, give a listen to "My Clone Sleeps Alone", "Withering Heights", "Anxiety", "Don't Walk Away", "One Love", "and "We Belong"!

Pat Benetar was THE rock chick in the 80's. One of only a few on the radio and the biggest. The guitarist is her husband I believe. Pat was a classically trained opera singer who wanted to rock. Her vocals are incredible. As a girl in the 80's she was a hero and I had all her albums and saw her in concert several times. Fire! Other songs: Heartbreaker, Treat Me Right, Hit Me with Your Best Shot (her biggest song), We Belong, Hell is For Children, Wuthering Heights (remake of Kate Bush song), Love is a Battlefield.

Yeah, Pat Benatar is a Rock Star! She trained as an Opera singer early on. Hubby Neil Giraldo is also a big part of the story. Neil was playing with Rick Derringer's band when in 1979 Producer/Writer, Mike Chapman called him up as he was looking for someone to team up with Pat. Her words... "I signed to Chrysalis Records and the company put together a group of studio musicians. We were putting things together and doing demos with wonderful studio musicians. It just wasn’t raunchy enough. It wasn’t rock enough. I mean, it sounded beautiful, but it wasn’t what I meant. I met with Mike Chapman a few times and I told him what I was trying to do, so he said he had a guy. So, Spyder came down the day I was doing auditions for the other band members and just came so we’d meet. He was already too accomplished to audition. He came in with everybody else. I didn’t know he was there. Someone told me Neil Giraldo was there, but I didn’t turn back. Then, I heard someone behind me say, “Hey, man, can I borrow your axe?” And I thought, oh my gosh, he didn’t even bring his guitar? I was ready to turn around and skewer him. Then I saw him and that was the end of that. My brain literally shut down, the rest of my body lit up on fire. I tried to compose myself, like “What the hell are you doing?” I was madly in love with him. I composed myself, shook his hand, and he got on stage to play the most unbelievable guitar chord I have ever heard. I wouldn’t have worked with him if he hadn’t been the right guy, the right guitar player, but he was exactly what I was looking for." Source: nikkionthedaily.com/2019/11/07/pat-benatar-neil-giraldo-the-real-life-romeo-juliet/ This song was the first song they wrote about this first meeting and their relationship. Heck, Pat was still married to another person when they met and fell in love! What a meeting of the ages. I for one thank that lucky moment. Seen her live only once and it was fire. Great reaction, great suggestion, Thank you Mary. I'd suggest you check out 'Invincible' next but she has a huge catalog. 'All Fired Up', Sex As A Weapon', 'Fire and Ice' just to name a few. All fire btw. Cheers.
