It's because antico is not authentic neapolitan style. They use dry mozzarella (scarmorza) and put msg in the sauce. Also the dough is really thick for neapolitan, closer to NY style

Thickness factor is the weight of the dough ball and how you stretch it. Antico is NOT authentic at all. The guy who started varuni napoli in atlanta literally left antico because the pizza was not authentic. Owner is NOT from italy he is from brooklyn, NY. His italian is very bad and actually he is tied up in controversy to because he left his wife and stole his son and left his wife looking for years for him. It was only years later that she found him but at that time Gio was so rich that he was able to pay for good lawyers and she ended up owing child support. I've had NY style many times. I've had neapolitan style many times. I've been to naples and run a wood burning oven in my backyard and make neapolitan pizza all the time. Scarmorza and any dried mozzarellas are not authentic on neapolitan or really any italian pizzas. His dough is stretched too thick. If you look at a pizza like DaMichele which is stretched to antico size, their dough is about 1/3 the weight. Antico uses a full NY weight dough ball. Go down to varuni napoli and then go to antico and taste the pizza. Get a margherita. They don't taste the same at all. Varuni napoli is one of the best neapolitan in america. Really good stuff. Also try varsano's pizza. It's also not authentic because he cooks in a deck oven closer to 2 minutes. Not surprised if antico is cooking their pies over 90 seconds given how thick they are.

Where did you hear that they put MSG in the sauce? I don't notice it at all. To my taste, I think their sauce doesn't exclusively use San Marzano tomatoes, or at least not the Cento brand. Their sauce has too much acidity for San Marzano.

Funny, somehow I knew Dave would give it an 8.3 before watching the video. He loves that crispy crust, Antico's is pretty soft in the middle. I know Lucali's is pretty stiff crust, I really wanna try that those lines are insane though, I went with friends and we decided to go elsewhere in Brooklyn bc it was like at least an hour's wait.

Not sure if they changed the rules, but in SC if they sell liquor, it’s not full nude. If it’s full nude, it’s byob. Or so I heard, from a friend. A friend who used to go after the bars closed in GA and he’d pack a cooler. One time he sold beers to other patrons and left the club with more money than he arrived with. A first for an outing to a strip club. Or so he said. I was in bed by 9 because I had to be up early. For church. I will pray for my friend. He’s a degenerate. But, it’s good info to know. Go to the right side of the building Dave is at (Hemphill Ave location) and there's another pizzeria owned by the same guy, but it's Sicilian pizza, more like a focaccia crust. It will knock your freaking socks off. I actually kinda prefer it to Antico's Neapolitan style, and that's saying something because it's some of the best pizza I've ever had.

Unless they rediscovered how to make pizza, Little Italy is a little mediocre, IMO. Good if you're drunk though - meatball parm was my go to. I liked Antico - it's more Neapolitan than NY but I like both styles. Crust was very good.

Incredible service!! I ordered Antico online and unfortunately the delivery service stole my pizza. I called the restaurant and they refunded my money. Then, THEY CALLED ME BACK AND PERSONALLY DELIVERED ME A NEW PIZZA!! They didn’t charge me, told me to tip the driver if I wanted. No joke, such a great business to do that

This reviewer did not do justice to Antico Pizza (received a 8.3). He should have picked Antico's signature pizza - San Gennaro pizza which is what it is known for around town. Other pizzas are great as well but San Gennaro is what put Antico on the map when it first opened up. Marguerite pizza which is what the reviewer is reviewing (I think?) and it can be bought at other pizza places and they are all come close as flavor goes but San Gennaro is often imitated but never duplicated IMO.

To compare Antico with other pizza stores, it would be ideal to compare cheese pizza (like you stated) since all of them have it on the menu. All I was trying to say was that Antico Pizza became well known for its San Gennaro pizza and that is what it is known for (signature dish) so if Antico gets reviewed on its cheese, that is not fair for Antico even though it would be fair for Barstool Pizza review. Not disagreeing with you. Just my 2 cents.

The flavor was good and fresh at Antico. To me it was way too wet/soupy and yes floppy, any toppings added kinda just fall off when you pick up the slice and the cut on slices did suck 😂. If you are a pizza lover, you should check out Vinny‘s NY style pizza downtown Atlanta, outside has a bunch of yellow umbrellas. I think on Piedmont street. Surprisingly the best pizza I’ve ever had.
