Powerful stuff . Did you notice, how Thomas hammered his instrument with a fist...hot damn 🤘😎🤘!!!! Tuomas, Nightwish's songwriter, wrote this one night in a fit of rage, and had to edit it later on to get rid of all the profanity. It's an angry song directed toward the greed of mankind, and their stupidity. This song is from Tarja era, and of course Floor gave her own twist to it , and it was soooooo AWESOME !!!!! Floor is able to handle both the Operatic songs from the Tarja era and the more Pop/Rock style of Annette, so that the band was able to have great live concerts doing a "Decades" tour with so much of their older music mixed between the different eras pre Floor. Also I think everyone wants "Live" Nightwish because the live shows were with Floor before Tuomas was able to write new music for the Floor era. This song was from the Tarja era and Tarja did a great job with it as it was written for her style, but it's great that Floor can also cover this music from the early days of Nightwish. Floor was, is, and always will be, a force of nature !!!! NWSU/FloorFan .

I'm glad that Tuomas decided to keep the song, even if he had to tweak it. I've found some of my best creative stuff can come out of my anger. Also, it helps me calm down, lol

The Warning is worth a look. 3 talented sisters from Mexico who can rock the house down. Evolve, Sick, Choke, and their cover of Enter Sandman are all killer. Teatro metropolitan concert has great live performances.❤

To understand the angst behind this track, u gotta understand the mindset of keyboardist/ songwriter Tuomas Holopainen in 2002 when he wrote this record 'Century Child' when Tarja was the singer ... U can watch the Nightwish documentary 'End of Innocence' ... which was filmed in 2003. Tuomas talked at length about his struggle w/ fame and responsibilities. A friend even remarked that after he read the lyrics on 'Century Child', he called Tuomas to ask if he was OK. Tuomas was a songwriter and composer at heart, and his desire to write and record music was what led to the creation of Nightwish in the mid-90's... he enlisted his friends to play the songs he had written - Tarja (vocals), Jukka (drums), and Emppu (guitar)... They recorded their first album 'Angels fall first' before they had even played a live concert... Tuomas recalled his enthusiasm when he first heard his song 'The Carpenter' by Nightwish on Finnish radio. Nightwish finally booked a concert in Finland, hiring Sami Vanska on bass, and played live for the first time... and claimed they were so terrified that none of them moved on stage. But then came the blowback... the press savaged the first Nightwish album... One review claimed that Nightwish "had zero commercial potential..." Tuomas was still determined to exceed the debut album and recorded the 2nd album 'Oceanborn' in 1998... By 1999, Nightwish was booking tours in Europe and the record was selling decently... The label wanted a ballad single, so Tuomas wrote and recorded 'Sleeping Sun'. In 2000, Tuomas wrote the 3rd album 'Wishmaster'... but the experience was not enjoyable. With pressure to make a follow-up to 'Oceanborn, he now had the record label making demands ("We gotta have another ballad... we need singles... you gotta meet the deadline... You gotta get back on tour..." etc.) Tuomas felt like he had 'lost his innocence'... He was no longer making music to express himself; he was making music to sell to their growing fanbase and their record label. The third album 'Wishmaster' was a huge success in Europe... and along w/ success came troll and haters... For every Nightwish fan they had made, there were more people in the press, in the public... trashing the band and his music. The toll of touring into 2001 was wearing Tuomas out as they released a live video 'From wishes to eternity'... Tuomas was also tasked w/ keeping the band together, making all the decisions. He decided to sack the bassist Sami and hire Tarot bassist/ vocalist Marco Hietala - Tuomas wanted Marco to do the band's male vocals, a decision that upset Nightwish fans initially (Marco recalled singing on stage and the audiences were literally like, "Who the eff r u and how dare u sing next to Tarja, our queen?") Just like Kurt Cobain of Nirvana discovered that his newfound fame was crushing his soul, Tuomas also felt the same way in 2002... he impulsively announced that the next Nightwish album would be the last... Tarja decided to use the time off to attend university and eventually married (She did not appear on the 2003 Nightwish documentary, apparently signaling tensions between her and the band). In the meantime, Tuomas poured his angst and depression into the songs that became 'Century Child'... the songs were almost like he was mourning a death in himself, songs like 'End of all hope'... 'Dead to the world'... 'Bless the Child'... 'Slaying the dreamer'... But there were also songs of hope - 'Ever dream'... 'Forever yours'... It was a very dark Nightwish record and Marco was prominently featured on male vocals for the first time. Nightwish did not tour much for this album, but it was another success. But it was beneficial for Tuomas and he felt inspired to write again... the next album 'Once' (2004) was a rebirth for him. Nightwish was now touring the world on that album. Unfortunately, the drama involving Tarja and her husband led to her being fired in 2005. Tuomas felt disillusioned once again, but was able to pour his anguish and uncertainty into the 2007 album 'Dark Passion play' - the first album w/ Anette Olzen on vocals, and Tuomas was finally at peace w/ the dynamics and workload of the demands of Nightwish.

@@AmericansLearn Dark Passion Play contains a VERY angry song directed at Tarja's husband, but it was never performed live. Marco sang it. It's more metal than anything NW has ever done and the most angry song ever. There is no live performance, but you should find a lyric version and react to it - it's stunning.

Hey Lauren. Me like these lyric lines "Dumb kid, living a dream Romantic only on paper" and the musical break down thereafter - even with "psycho" notes. Another great song made her own by Floor, although Tarja did it first. one can see the whole band is having fun. The drums, bass, guitar and Tuomas on keyboard.

That guitar part is called a "whammy bar". BTW, if you use the keyboard, you can skip back or ahead by 5 seconds for each keypress of the left or right arrow key. That can be easier than scrubbing with the mouse ...

Another older song. Tarja era, from the 4th album Century Child, 2002. The Dreamer is the songwriter. It's about a songwriters feelings when their work is harshly criticized. Anger is certainly one of those feelings.

Great reaction. Yes, lots of anger in this song. I always thought it was about the greed of the music industry but another commenter provided a quote from a history of Nightwish (Once Upon a Nightwish I think) where Tuomas said the song was written after a night hanging out in a bar with his then girlfriend. All these guys were coming up and hitting on his girlfriend, even though many of them knew they were together. He wrote out the song in a fit of raqe when he got home that night. He later had to go back and edit out all the profanity.

Empuu's "little wiggle" IIRC that called a whammy bar. You can tell when Floor is about to reach for the rafters, she plants her feet. I have heard it is good to right letters to people that piss you off and burn them. Now what to do with the letters?

A shame you never mentioned Marco's vocals. Without those, this would not be half as impactful But you have to say, 2 hours unto what was a a high energy concert, thise staccato triplets at the end are magnificent. Yes, a very angry song ("I truly hate you")

Let’s settle the debate… Floor isn’t necessarily “better” than Tarja, but she is definitely more versatile. I like Tarja a lot, but all we ever got from her was operatic, and with Floor we get good quality operatic as well, along with metal, pop, etc. That is why I prefer Floor, but that doesn’t mean that I like Tarja any less. The one I never really liked was Annette, whose voice was not well suited for Nightwish at all. She’s weak even in the songs that Tuomas wrote specifically for her. Floor takes those songs to a much higher dimension.
