It is all but explicitly said that the aliens are a colonial power & protagonists are subalterns--members of the native population who have been excluded from the hegemony created by the colonialist power--who are fighting back against the colonizers. It's not even the first time we've seen colonialism in anime/manga being shown from the perspective of the colonized people, and you're going to find most of the world outside of the West will be telling stories about colonialism from the point of view of the people getting colonized because they WERE the people getting colonized.

Yes just to let you know. It's pretty simple looking this up in a dictionary. And 相方 in all usages does mean "partner". So no it doesn't mean anything else. The word reads in romanji "aigata". if you take the kanji 相(ai) and 方(gata) separately, The 相 means "together"/"mutually". the kanji 方 (gata) is a pluralizer to signify bonding of two people. The translation for the separate kanji means "around". So if a a rough literal translation of each kanji separately means would mean "around together" or "mutually around". That's why when the two kanji are joined together form 相方(aigata) or in English "partner." So yes the first release is not a mistranslated word. This is straight up censorship. Also the 相方(aigata) kanji in Japanese culture has nothing to do with gender neutrality. The term has nothing to do with gender from a Japanese sense. As we broken down the word earlier. The aigata phrase refers to people who are mutually around each other, but it lacks the connotation of affection or love. Aigata is also a word that was derived from an older world during the days of the old redlight district during the Meiji era. The aigata or "partner" focused on a relationship with loose connections or one where the relationship wasn't properly defined. Most people on Reddit just wanna see where it goes. I know one of the Redditors in this video. What people have to understand is that it is a chapter discussion, not indicative of the series as a whole. For the most part, people just want an interesting story that does something rather than what's actually happening. Outside of ch 1, Drama Queen just feels run of the mill. It wasn't even the best manga released that week. People are willing to give it a chance, they just want more than "muh aliens bad" or "characters are psychopaths" which is what we've seen for the most part.

About the translation, the word they were using there was 相方, which you can translate to partner, but can be used in some other contexts, like a boytoy, or a friend with benefit. Simply saying "partner" there even in quotation marks wouldn't give full meaning. A decent translator would put in an asterisk and explain the context in the bottom of the page.
