In this video I go over a Phaser Beam Overload variant of the advanced level basic energy build. This is demonstrated on the Fleet Arbiter Battle Cruiser, which is one of the best ships in the C-store in Star Trek Online. The Arbiter is also the ship that unlocks the must have starship trait for energy weapons builds; Emergency Weapon Cycle. if I could make a suggestion for new players, make a beginner (fresh 50) build, t5 ship, all mission loot and exchange stuff, and then incorporate rep/cstore upgrades to get for progression. Love this video, but I'm not here yet and a LOT of the build guides on here are outdated.

100% Reduction in STO is badly phrased. "100% Cooldown Reduction" doesn't mean the cooldown is reduced to zero, but that the speed at which is cools down is increased by 100%. This has the effect of dividing the cooldown by 2. For example, say a skill has a 10 second cooldown while it 'recharges'; the "100% cooldown reduction" doubles the recharge speed so that it takes 5 seconds to cooldown instead. It's a similar thing for the "-500% Weapon Power cost", which is still very badly phrased. Each "100%" of the value effectively halves the weapon power cost (or maybe the recharge time - I'm not sure). So, the KCB has a -8 weapon power cost without the bonus, but with the bonus will have a "-8÷2÷2÷2÷2÷2 = -0.25" weapon power cost with the bonus. Now, I don't claim to say that my interpretation of the way things like this works in STO is absolutely correct, but there's various tooltips that describe how this works quite well whereas this one obviously doesn't. I'm just trying to piece together the way tooltip 'language' needs to be interpreted. If I'm wrong, please do correct me.

I always though that the -500% power reduction would reduce it to 0 power consumed for 5 seconds even when you are using firing modes and traits that increase power consumption like Weapon Emitter Overdrive and beam overload. If you assume that the minimum power consumed when firing a weapon is 0. Then there is no difference between -100% and -500%, but if you are using something that increases power consumption the number will matter. But it all depends how these power consumption additions and reductions are calculated and this is very difficult to test in live. A better phasing would be 'For 5 seconds when firing an energy weapon, power consumption is set to 0'. If that was thier intent for that proc.

Hey Stu, I've been watching your videos recently. They are very good. I'm still a bit lost at how you choose your builds. I just started adding epic gear to my ships but to be honest, I'm still lost. Like watching this video I still do not fully understand how you come up with this. What am I supposed to be looking for? DO I have to respec my character to accomplish this. I'm still lost. Right now I can do all stories on adv/ elite. But wth the J'ula arc, I still cannot beat the lukara? DO you have any videos that can further breakdown and simplify your ideas. What am I missing in regards to understanding how all these components work together.

This comment has nothing to do with this build video; I just wanted to help poke the algorithm and say I got the Suliban FDC and I really like it. I was surprised for a carrier it is pretty maneuverable, the stock visuals are absolutely gross though; you can't change anything except putting patterns on not even any color changing! Fortunately visual sets work just fine and the ships frame fits perfectly with how I like to fly, I really appreciate the help!

Question: Trying to understand your spam bar, specifically why Beam Overload & Photonic Officer aren't on it? or does your keybind activate tray 7 & 8 at the same time? Also, your torp is not set to autofire? - how does that work? and why is Torp Spread so far down the spam bar - does it also benefit from some of the pre-buffs? Really trying hard to understand the mechanics and systems after a decade of normal mode cruising, aka starship Barbies

On this build row 7 and 8 are connected to my spacebar, so row 7 fires then 8. My spacebar also fires my weapons and at the time there was some issue with torps misfiring, no longer an issue so auto fire for torps is fine now. Lastly, you are correct, I am trying to get as many buffs going before activating my firing modes (spread and beam overload) that why I have them at the end. Note that this only makes a difference at the beginning of combat the first time you start activating the spam bar because all the abilities have different cool downs so the order will be different the first activation, so the order is not a huge deal.

@@MCStu Thanks for the detailed response. Watching your videos and actually *building* a ship has taken me from 2K to 40K on standard missions, with only my gameplay and weapons upgraded. I don't even have the fleet tac consoles (spent all my stuff) and its already night and day!

Oh you missed out on Intel abilities. You want to mitigate threat, slot Intel Team. To me, Intel seating is better than an Enhanced Battle Cloak. I like how you are taking the time to go over each piece/ability and how it fits together to form a larger picture. That is some invaluable information there.

Watching these video's on 1080p seems to mean I'm not expected to read the UI. I get it, it's archaic to use 1080p but it kinda sucks for not seeing the popups or be able to read anything actually and be 100% reliant on the narrating ( which is good, which is why I still watch them ofc, but I would love it more if I could see the UI items normally ).

Looking at a similar phaser build with the legendary D7 on my new 65 cardassian(klingon) for some wacky reason but whatever it's thematically all over the place, got to have fun. Had some pulse phaser beam arrays sitting in the account bank, they're mostly to blame. I may cave and just choose a 4/4 and build something less weird.

Tilly's shield proc works on your shield power level. How does this calculate when you have 0 power invested in it?

There is a certain minimum power threshold. I think it is 15. I don't have actual numbers, but it seems decent enough that a lot of content creators use it. I would not personally use Tilly's Shield as a standalone. It is amazing as part of a set, but middle of the road as a single piece.

With the way power works you will never have 0 power, but I do have mine set to the lowest it will go, so im getting some but not the full potential which is 20% and with where my shield power is set I am getting 11.5% for this proc.....

You needn't to worries about to choose a good day to die, because your starfleet members and galactic neighbors won't let you leave so early. In case of you meet darkness, they have to think about where to reborn you as new galactic member.

lol...4th one, well you can access to your Akashic records but need to carefully selecting those knowledge. You needn't to worries about standard earth timeline but re(verse)-engineering can't repeats the process. Regardless of various types of deflector and shields, we assume fusion plasma deflector, helium- deflector, secondary photonic crystal deflector are usual to re-engineer; and main shields such as repulsive shield, magnetic pulsar shield, ionized shield, fusion powered shield…are standard shields to every ship, no matter they're battleship or heavy vessel carries.

Yes. All starship traits are aspects of the character, not the ship itself. Unlocking a trait is just adding it to the character's list of assets.

For your final Starship Trait, why do you not use Arrest to reduce BOFF recharge times?

With photonic officer I don't think it is needed and you get more out of the traits shown. But it I didn't have to these trait and needed to fill a slot that would be a good option.

There is another starship trait that reduces captain recharge abilities by half. I believe it came out of the Disco lock box or picard i believe. Also a few people from my discord say to use hull image refractors. (10-15 mil ec off of exchange) It's basically a 'oh shit' button. However i don't believe it is needed unless you run a 'glass cannon.' I like the set up but why no Disco wide beams for a full set? A little bit more damage with the extra DMTorps.

For survival hull regen and resistance is MUCH more effective, so Using the limited power you have in Weapon, engines or aux (depending on your build) give better over all performance.

That is a tough one, they both give a big damage boost, +100% cat 1 or +20% bonus damage cat 2, which are close to equal give or take. But I think i would to with promise of ferocity because it in less circumstantial, meaning it is easier to get and main the boost...

Advanced Targeting Systems gives +20% crit Severity at rank II (Dyson rep) and Precision gives +5% crit chance at rank II (Romulus Rep). I use both on all build with the exception of Sci builds in some cases.

@MC Stu I have been playing STO for a couple of years and I still find it extremely hard to get exactly what I want on my ships, (I also find it impossible to get the ground items I want, and specializations for the crew) with the exception of just constantly replaying the missions for the Quantum Phase Set Rewards across all my ships. I want to be able to get specific items and weapons and get them to epic, but I find the whole system so confusing. This isn't like Skyrim for example where you can just smith a desired weapon. For example, I cannot find very rare or epic phasers for my phaser build ship to mix with my Quantum Phase set. I am also stuck with dual beams on the front because I cannot find epic phasers with better arc. I'd also love some omnis. Can you give me some info to assist? Thank you!

If you have get puzzled and hardly to choose what you really wanna adds to your ships, why not to design your ships at first and advancing them day by day. You can discuss more details with your teammates, or selects some similar types at Star Trek.

If you mean 0 down time for beam overload, the trait Superweapon Ingenuity will extend the duration by 5 sec, along with Aux to Bat or Photonic Officer for your cool downs you can to 100% up time.

No, this looks to be a great trait for BO, although I could not find how long the bonus damage effect lasts or weather or not is stacks.

Without a solid and reliable way to test the damage boost statistics on console, all I can confirm is that if any temporary hit points remain when you activate BO again the 50k does NOT refresh. My assumption, based on that, is the damage doesn't proc unless the hit points do. For me, on a typical adv tfo, I see it proc every other BO activation...give or take. Not bad. But I doubt it stacks.

Mission or box reward omnis can be slotted with craft omnis, so max of two. The bog kinetic cutting beam is not consider an omnis, even other it is. You can slot one of each for an effective max of 3.

I guess the 500% drain resist means if you get debuffed with anything for that stat, you'll still get the bonus... unless you get REALLLY debuffed xD that's my 2 cents

If you go this way you will need to pick one as your primary and build towards it and the other will will be secondary. If you build towards both neither will perform well.
