Your efforts of spreading aikido and teaching basics are certainly commendable. Unfortunately, this type of ushiro ukemi has become quite common, and people promote it as a way of falling. Compare this to an earlier practitioner of Aikido who studied under O sensei directly. Many of the ushi deshi at that time were quite agile and practiced the art of rolling and getting up smoothly without slapping the mat or using their hands to get up, etc. See here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGmydJl7o5xqitU. Several backward rolls are executed starting at 0.53 sec and you can see a very nice smooth roll at approximately 1:14. I believe we should strive for that kind of ukemi. Something to think about. My sensei was Vicente Borondo who studied under Yasuno Sensei. You are so right, his technique was exactly like one in the video. Many thanks for this.
