Started Sensei Matt’s online tutorials 5 days ago & returned to Kung-fu instructor I had too long ago. The kata I was taught in my 1st class today combined with Sensei Matt’s beginner kata here ate far from boring. I am PSYCHED. I must thank you for sharing. However, the Bo has to be palm_up - palm_down to be effective; that is the teaching of O'Sensei Soken, Sensei Kise, and Sensei James Coffman. Yes, you can use a Bo with two palms down or two palms up against an average street guy, but not against a skilled karateka with a Bo. Also, when grabbing the Bo with your left hand (guard hand), you grab it too high (it should be breast level, not kneck level), leaving your lower body too open. When you block your knee/leg, your block is too much to the outside of the body leaving the knee/leg vulnerable to a strike in case your miss your block. Blocks should be tangent to the body no more no less. I hope this helps.

All true. I do a blend of styles and what you see here is mostly the Chinese or Korean style. The Okinawan/Japanese style is far superior for fighting and self defense. No question. The blended style originated from competition days where flash and spin was more desirable in open style competition. I’m with you 100% though.
