I like your setup, basic and simple. Then again, there are people that like to go all out. Everybody has their own preference on how they want to build their gear. I work for Allied Universal in CA. I can do both armed and unarmed. For armed, I would wear a level IV Safelife plate carrier vest and attached to the vest would be my main firearm in the holster the FN Five Seven MRD with a red dot and flash light, body cam, and maybe pen and little notepad. For my duty belt, it would have a X26 Taser pistol, Byrna Pistol launcher with three mags filled with half kinetic and half OC balls, a pair of metal hand cuffs, some zip tie cuffs, flashlight, and my backup pistol the 9mm S&W M&P sub compact with two magazines. My unarmed rig would be the same as my armed minus the firearms, I'll just carry two Byrna Pistol launchers. I might even wear a tactical helmet with headphones that can connect to the radio. It's better to be safe than sorry. Some people say that's way too excessive, but in reality when the real situation happens, you better hope you are prepared because everything is going to happen very fast and your adrenaline is going to kick in with the stress.

I’ve done security for 22 years, and most unarmed post don’t require all of that gear. Plus most clients don’t want a military look in their officers. As you stated that client allows you to wear that gear. But for the most part an unarmed guard looks like a cop without all of the equipment.

I feel that whenever you need to wear a chest plate to stop stab wounds to vital organs, you should also carry a med kit designed to stop heavy bleeding around arms and legs. Tourniquets, Israeli bandage, clothing scissors, etc. If there was no threat of a knife, the you wouldn't need the plate.

i know there some guard companies that are picky that they dont want you to wear the taser baton pepper spray if your level 3 they just want you to wear the gun even tho if your licensed to carry the taser gun and baton you show them they still will say no cause in most sites you work in dont need baton taser gun or pepper spray just the hand gun to wear there so picky.

Usually, most clients don't require all that because they feel pressure from the employer to get charged more, plus it intimidates their customers, employees, and tenants. Some clients don't like guards detaining due to their potential liability, so they don't want guards carrying cuffs. If it's a high crime area or a government contract, then the client might accept that and require all that.

Nowadays all guards should at least carry 2 forms of non-lethal weapons. I’d also suggest a physical fitness for all guards that would be engaging with the public. Way too much chaos everywhere for guards to just be carrying a Walkie and a flashlight.

The best advice I can give you is if you can go out there and really practice your craft with the firearm go to the gun range as much as possible really familiarize yourself with whatever gun that you going to be using practice your draw speed and other methods as far as in cleaning your firearm is important as well , once you are 100% comfortable then you can make that next step to getting your armed license but any additional training will help you as well and put you above the rest, most guys have their armed license don't have any real training so if you can go out and get some real training that would be a Plus on your end

I get it being an unarmed officer at a company that only allows us to wear only a flash light, badge and key ring. But this officers set up is clean, vest fits well, patches are readable and clearly state what he is. But security wasn’t what it was years ago. People are hiring security as “police” now a days and if wearing a vest and having what your license and legally allowed to wear then wear it. At the end of the day it’s what helps you get he job done and going home at the end of the day. It's an image thing for them but a safety thing for me. - I work as a security specialist for a major defense company and we contract our guard force.. I like the setup @Commader Hall, but I would suggest for you have a baton, taser to replace the firearm and as a deterrent to keep others away from you for safety purposes. I also suggest you have a glove pouch at the back with two slots, for four gloves (pair per slot) to keep your hands clean if you have to touch anything while assisting the elder with medical needs. If you don't want to get that, I might suggest a glove that says security on it. Since you show us yours. I'll tell you mine. On my vest, I have a body cam from Promnico body cam. It is an upgrade/update from what I had before and I like it. I also have a flashlight attached to my body armor, a small red/white QuiqLite X2 Tactical Aluminum Hands-Free Pocket Concealable Flashlight which I can use as a flashlight while writing in the dark and it is also hands-free. I can change it to either/or from white to red for ease on the eyes and also conceal my present or put it on flash I can be seen while responding to emergencies, I am also considering changing it to Guardian Angel which is a lot better (low on the fund at the moment). I would recommend if you check Guardian Angel out, will be useful for you in that 55+ area. Oh, and I have two pens on me too. For my belt from right to left, consider that I don't do unarmed at my job, I have 1.5 pepper spray, a keychain, my firearm (Glock 17 9mm hollow point), handcuff from ASP (one, but consider having another one in case I have to cuff someone that required two, I am thinking of Hing handcuffs or another chain handcuffs), my glove pouch so it doesn't hurt my back, my Taser since I am right-handed, (the Taser is yellow, so It is easy to tell the difference from my gun), my ammo, and lastly my tourniquet. All my medical equipment will be in my backpack. If I do an unarmed, I would only take out my firearm and the ammo pouch and leave the rest on there along with whatever else on my vest. I need to re-train on everything since it has been a while, but I am certified with a taser, baton, and pepper spray. I need to do a course for medical again too.

Just gonna throw it out there level 2 guards can not carry a baton a firearm or oc. Thats all commissioned. You can get in some serious hot water for that. Also being a Personal Protection Agent is earned the fact your company allow you to wear that is disrespectful to the people who have earned that title. Again no offense but if a state trooper or police officer asked for your license and it shows unarmed guard you can get arrested for impersonating a PPA Be careful. Level 2s are not commissioned officers.

You’re speaking in absolutes when you fail to realize there are 50 states - and therefore 50 state security boards ** (asterisk as a caveat, I’ll come back to that). Your area is not every single situation in every single state, and thank god for that. Not every state has this ridiculous “tiered” level concept. Texas and Florida security makes this licensure nonsense more complicated than it really needs to be with levels and letters and whatever other methods states use to further confuse people, I just know TX and FL are the worst offenders **caveat: not all 50 states have a security board. Some states are completely unregulated and require no guard card whatsoever.

If you are willing to buy gear, and if you are wearing a vest when you can't even carry a gun, what kind of job are you doing, ridiculous, that much gear is over $400 again for a job that pays at the most $17? This is an outrageous feeling of wanting to be in power like a cop, which a level 2 security guard is not. Don't pretend. No level 2 security guard should be using cuffs unless they want to go to jail also. No level 2 guards should ever touch a person

@@Fitness23 again you are not being practical at all, it's best to have what you can have than to have nothing at all, you never know what situations may arise while on duty and remember you're by yourself, you don't have any immediate backup or anyone to help you in any situation so a lot of times you have to handle things on your own until you can get help, now I own my own agency so it was my choice to buy all the gear and equipment that I have, personally I do not work unarmed I was just giving a scenario for someone who may be unarmed, you don't have to make a positive situation and something negative everyone have their own opinion on the matter but I'm big on safety and making it home at the end of the day, not me personally but do you know there are some unarmed guards working in very bad neighborhoods and locations and they have no weapons or anything to protect themselves, also there is some unarmed guards making $20 or more an hour , so what you are saying don't apply for everyone
