Unfortunately our Security industry has allowed unprofessional behavior standards & (many times) has engaged in cutthroat/unethical treatment of its employees, all of which has contributed to: 1) inconsistent employee attendance, 2) inconsistent payments from clients, & 3) general dysfunction in our profession. Please continue your professionalism & raising Security standards, Commander. Thanks for your service👊🏿!

I owned a business for over 20 years, my thoughts. Business ownership is very much like the old Michael Keaton movie multiplicity. He attempts to clone himself, but each version further down the line becomes less intelligent, and more of a liability. (Sound familiar)? Keep your circle and focus small until you have some of the issues you speak about shored up. Keep fighting for your dream, and don’t give up. 3 years is the mark. Make it past the first 3 years, and things will become a bit brighter.

@Commander Hall, great video! I understand every struggle you discuss, from payments to employees and everything in-between. Early congratulations on approaching the one year mark!!! I have been throwing around the idea of starting a social media channel for my organization but have been hesitant in doing so, probably because I want to be sensitive to our partner's facilities and encounters with the general public. Plus, with so many other people already doing their own channels, I don't want to just jump in and talk the same thing as everyone else. Any advice on the social media stuff would be greatly appreciated.

Good info! I own a small restaurant in a small town where the need for security in some areas here are growing. I also happen to have some security background in my younger years but only as an employee. I'm kinda juggling with the idea of starting a new LLC for security but you put in some real good insight on the reality of being occupied because of the turnaround rate which I also deal with at the restaurant. Yeah this vids been real. TY!

I just landed my first 2x officer 24/7 contract and the stress is real regarding reliable workers. Larger companies in my state pay $13 to $15/hr and I start my guys out at $17 and some still come in late they think the money is too easy so they got comfortable. Also clients paying late is rough… paying $6000 a week in payroll for a small company and having client be 3 weeks late is tough

I don't know what to say other than you MUST take care of yourself. I was one of "The Faithful Few" back in my day. I pushed myself hard. I also became disabled and a lot of people said they believe that I pushed myself too hard. I worked for some Ma and Pa companies and the hardest one I did was 8 hours on 8 hours off. It was like a broken double shift. It got to the point where I was ending up at work or at home, and had NO CLUE and NO MEMORY of how I got there. Obviously, I drove my car, but I had NO MEMORY of the drive at all. I believe I was actually sleeping while driving and my body was just on auto pilot most of the time. Some people can drive and function like they are awake but they are actually asleep. Sleep walking. Once I realized where I was and had NO CLUE of how I got there, it scared me. I worked for another company and every single morning my relief was late. She'd just waltz in whenever she felt like it, didn't ever seem to be in a hurry. She just strolled in. She looked exhausted, but still she has a responsibility. I prefer my relief to come in fifteen minutes early so I could properly debrief them and pass along any information if there was any. I was ALWAYS at very least 15 minutes early. If I even THOUGHT I would be late, I would telephone the Sergeant, and I would still get to my post and on the clock 5 minutes early. The boss even said to me, You're still 5 minutes early and all I heard is "You're 10 minutes late." And I lived by the philosophy...; "If I am early, I am on time. If I am on time, then I'm late." I even came to work wrapped in a wool Military blanket, going to work with the flu. The next day, everyone else was sick too. They told me next time I call in sick, they will let me stay home.

Late fees for each day late beyond contract, add in a different rate with a credit card on file. Include in contract the agreement for client to pay on time or be subject to litigation for breach of contract with a x10-x100 addition for damages. Cancel the contract until balance is paid to prevent your guards working for free essentially

I wonder if it's because we set the bar too low for the employees we accept? (aka a warm body) As for late payments issues, a fix some of my clients use is an ACH bank draft or CC on file. . Then you can offer a better rate. Tell them your rate is $xx.xx if they pay ACH or have a Credit Card on File. If Not, then you have a higher rate.

Here's some security business manager advice. I have been in private security for 17 years, law enforcement for several years, and managing a security business for multiple years. When you get a client, make sure they sign a contract with the shortest pay cycle that you can get them to agree to, and then add a penalty for them paying late. We do bars and nightclubs and such on a 14-day cycle

One major issue I’ve noticed working security over 22 years is that when you hire, teenagers straight out of high school, or college students. You’ve set yourself up for failure. Also when you hire women without a proper setup for child care. These are not discriminatory statements. These are standards that the company has to stand on. I know those three types of workers are easy to find. But from my experience they are the worst.

Think about everyone in your life . Who is in management or who might know someone in management that can give you a chance. It start with your circle of connections and make sure you give them a kickback for giving you business . Take care of them and they will take care of you . If you have no luck .. Go for apartment mid level complexes in areas you know need service and talk to the manager .
