As a mythic healer myself I'd highly encourage people to use mouse over macros for all their healing spells, it's such a niche thing to get going especially when you're learning, you might wanna get into that in one of your videos preacher!

Shane Williams I'm used to have some kind of grid where you click, like oldest one, healbot. But I'm now used to it because before I had just normal mouse. As a healer you need more keys. Note, I always mained prot/ret paladin but did some lower tier healing with alts. Now few times I healed to but just like normal mythic. What do you think about grid healing?

Yeah I heard of mouse-over-macros just a few months ago (I'm not a raider or otherwise competetive player, unless you count normal PvP) and it makes life so much easier. Healing feels much better now and always klick on name before healing got really stressfull. As a monk I also build a harm/heal-effect into it. For those who don't know, that means that when you mouse of a friendly player you heal them, if you mouse over an enemy player, you harm them, both on the same button (e.g. Effuse and Tiger Palm). Really nice in dungeons for some extra damage when the tank doesn't need healing at the moment.

Anything other then Mythic you dont really need mouse over macro`s. i have never ever used them, though i also dont raid mythic.

I used to be a boss healer in LK, and then I quit healing. See, if you're good at healing, you have the tools to just not let your group wipe. Ever. You're better at preventing wipes than a good tank. Your groups can get away with so much crap. The issue is, when you're put in a situation like that, people don't learn. They think that whatever they did was working. They were the hero. Fuck healing. EDIT: I played a holy priest and resto druid back then.

I appreciate these videos. This weekend I was finally convinced to tank for the first time in my life and I had watched your tanking guide series so I felt confident enough to give it a shot. I had my unholy spec with a rank 30 wep and my frost spec with a rank 34 wep but my blood wep was at zero. I am happy to say in 2 days I got my blood wep to rank 30 and have done numerous mythic 7's and 8's with random pug groups.

Healed as shammy in Wotlk (that's also when I tried other classes healing, liked pally especially), holy paladin in mop, wod and legion. Loved occasional healing on resto druid alt. Never really enjoyed priest. Now I hate every person that doesn't interrupt and stand in shit.

This is my first expansion that I've went into raiding as a Healer (Paladin incase you were wondering) and although I've now transferred back over to Main Spec Ret, I have to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed healing so far... I'm enjoying it far more than I did tanking, but that's just me :)

What i love about resto is that in your downtime when theres nothing to heal, you still have the essential Ele skillset available to dps. Lightning bolt, chain lightning, flame shock, lava burts plus lava surge, its all there! Its like a healing specc with half a dps specc jammed on top of it.

I agree with you about disc priest. The main problem for me, especially when pugging is that if you get a bad group disc priest is so unrewarding as the way you're supposed to play the class completely goes out the window in order to make up for everyone elses mistakes.

Jegethy I think step 1 is figuring out how much mana each spell costs (in combat) and what is spammable and what should be used sparingly. Then translating that into dungeon situations where player X is at 20% and player Y is at 60% and deciding what the best course of action is. Second is sort of figuring out what you can do to help that isn't healing.

Now I'm probably gonna get laughed at or whatever, but I went Fire mage at the start of Legion and unfortunatley couldn't do the damage.. dunno why but I couldn't. So I went to my roots n went for a healer. I healed as a Resto shammy through MoP, WoD and then rerolled to a mage right at the end of WoD. I eventually went for a Holy priest, to try something new. Resto shammy, to me is quite similar to what it was like before (could be wrong, it just seems like it from looking outside). I have not once regretted my decision, I love Holy priest. I will slowly push myself to try Disc.. its sorta out of my comfort zone as you have to DPS to heal, I prefer the pure healing class, but Disc is good in situations where you need that extra bit of damage. We shall see. Its nice to see all the healers in a comfy place (at the moment), actually gives people a choice ^^

Totally agree that holy paladins are in such an awesome feeling spot. That positional power, such a tasty reward for being conscious of. I just hope you don't focus on helping with interrupts with this guide because shaman are the only healers capable there (I think?). Making me feel bad for not having that Rebuke. :( Also nice to see something special planned for Disc. That's my opposite faction healer and it's definitely a blast and would be nice to hear your current thoughts about stuff.

First time i've decided to heal this expac. Loving it WAY more than i thought i would... M+ though, not raid healing. I started off with a priest, but now im mostly playing my main (monk) as mistweeeeeVAH. Fun spec. Has melee dps elements, great cleave heals, AoE stun, and Lots of mobility. Just wish it had an interrupt. Priest can also be fun if played as Disc. I think disc requires a lot more gear to get to the same level as a MW in terms of ease of play. It's an overall tough spec to play, but is rewarding. Holy is strong, but boring. I also have a shaman that i'm gearing for healing. It's OK. A little too straight up heal (like holy priest). Has lots of utility, but i haven't played it enough like the others to make a complete judgement on it.

As a veteran healer (12 years) I have a metric ton of advice to give. 1. Don't target a person THEN hit your healing spell on your keyboard. The other healers WILL SNIPE you. 2. Healing is a game of getting your stuff in before the other healers, this goes with #1. 3. You have to learn what your spells can do, how they interact, and visually how much they heal for on a HP bar. This is adjustable, as you get better gear you'll obviously become more powerful.. and by obvious reasons you'll gain better mana efficiency. Its just how the game works, really. 4. You have to know when the damage is coming in every fight. Just as the DPS needs to know burst windows, tanks need to know when to use their defensive CDs... a healer needs to know when they have to pump out the goods. 5. TRACK STUFF. Track incoming debuffs that deal damage. A good example is heart seaker in HFC. The person afflicted needed persistent healing. I tracked the debuff via VUHDO, and it was easy to see who needed my HOTS (im a resto druid). 6. Goes with #5. Put your DBM/Big Wigs timers in a place where you can see them easily. Keep an eye on those big damage CDs, and when they are almost up. PREPARE for the incoming damage, and have a nice heal ready to snipe some HPS before the other healers get to it. 7. Know your limitations. You can't sit and chain cast heals or you'll go OOM before the fight is half over. Addons that I've gravitated toward over the past 12 years: 1. Vuhdo. There are lots of nice videos out there that show you how to set it up so you can track whatever you want. This included debuffs AND buffs. 2. Weak Auras. I use weak auras to their fullest extent. You don't need to make one to track every single CD you have, just tailor it to you what need. For instance, in HFC druids could cast a 2nd lifebloom via their set bonus. I wrote a scripted weak aura that was a vertical timer bar, and listed below it was the target that I'd cast the spell on. I had it play a sound when 5 seconds was left on the lifebloom, so I could allow it to bloom and instantly reapply. That's all I tracked. This xpac, my guild has a billion druids, so I went priest. I am playing both Disc and Holy in a mythic environment. I have unique WAs set up for each spec. Just do what suits you the best. 3. Clique. Clique is an old school mouse-over macro program. It works nicely with your spell book so you don't have to keybind anything. You can do the same things via Vuhdo, but I find it easier to bind my physical mouse button to certain spells via clique's interface (saves me from making arbitrary skill bars just for mouseovers... such as leap of faith). I have mousebutton 1 bound to leap of faith, versus trying to configure that in Vuhdo... and im sure there is a simple way to do that. I just prefer to put healing spells only in VuHDO, and everything else in clique, if that makes sense. Learn what works best for you. Don't be a target first, then hit keyboard button healer.... learn to script mouseover macros.. and do your best to lift your head up from your raid HP frames to look around. You can spot the people that aren't following mechanics before other healers.. and you can snipe the extra HPS :) This stuff just barely scratches the surface of my knowledge... i could go on to examine throughput and everything else.... but I digress.. I'd write a frickin novel lol

Absolutely love holy paladin. I've been a holy pally main since I started (late 08) and this is definitely one of the best types of gameplay we've had. I will say, MoP also had great gameplay for holy Paladins but we were way too OP. We had Aoe healing, ST healing, hot healing and shield healing without any repercussions for being that versatile. I will say it was extremely fun though.

Disc could use a % buff to atonement. That's what Blizz decided to make it revolve around and I feel it is in need of a buff to the amount of healing atonement will do. It's my favorite healer, and I know its strengths and weaknesses, and most weaknesses disappear in good groups who use active mitigation and follow mechanics. The ones that stand out the most are dispell and the healing from atonement. Dispell seems to not work on 90% of things it should work on but doesn't, so not sure if it's working as intended but I filled out a bug report in it. Those are the only two things I can hope for for Disc, it's fun, unique, but it needs just a little nudge so it can have more viability among groups.

Resto shamans got an interrupt, stun totem, decent single target heals, good aoe heals, and decent damage. I think you'll get to showcase a lot of the fundamental mechanics that good healers have. Good choice imo.

Hey Preach! I've been playing an Enhancement Shaman since Legion started and when my guild got stuck on progression I switched to Restoration. Why? Why not pick a Paladin or a Druid? Cause Mastery. And we did progress, and I'm really happy I did because to me it feels nice to play. I like Riptide, I like our totems and Ghost Wolf, but that Mastery mate. That's the icing on the cake. The raw life-saving potential is incredible, and it isn't even tied to cooldowns all the time! And you can ofc make the omnipotent immortal-when-stood-in-healing-rain spec that is great if you run a melee heavy group. It just ticked all my boxes and I really hope you will get as much enjoyment out of it as I have!

I've played Mistweaver since Pandaria, and Shaman resto since Wrath and until then I played Priest, the place where mistweaver is right now is very unique - I don't really like the Legion MW, compared to the WoD, as long as there are no paladins in the raid, we shine :D

No deen that's just wrong. Shamans have so much utility, there's always something to improve. Between the ghost wolf to reduce damage taken and get around, wind rush totem, spirit link, ank totem, that defensive totem, their mastery which is amazingly designed because it actually means you can make very nice stuff happen, purge, slow totem, stun totem, better placement for aoe's, chain healing into the correct group and not just randomly . All those things have little niches and uses that can be improved upon. And then there's the basic stuff every healer does of course. I know other heals got some cool stuff as well, maybe more micro decisions they need to make, but a shaman has the most impact of every healer on the whole group simply because of their insane utility.

deenman23 Druid is complex? Druid is THE throughput class, it has always been the throughput class, all it has is output, not much complex stuff there besides managing HOTS, you'll never get an amazing output healing on resto shaman, there's only utility with their mastery shining on prog.

Disc is good, it's just not easy to be a GOOD disc priest. I've seen them ranking fairly high in DPS while still keeping up with other healers, but dude was seriously putting his all in just to prove a point, studied the hell out of how to do it well and put the time into learning the spec and how to be good at it.

As a Holy Pally I quested as holy no problem. May have been slower at first, but I honestly do more damage in Holy, especially the opener, than I do on Ret. But could just be because I don't like Ret and my Holy wep is 34 while my Ret is like 2.

hey preach can you mention that while blizzard has balanced the healers around numbers very well the priest, more specifically the holy priest has by far the worst/no raid utility compared to the other healers and the worst mobility of all healers, having the only non cd instant cast a worthless spell this xpac(renew) and 0 escapes or defensive which are baseline for all other healers. I know they are getting desperate prayer in 7.1.5 but the reason they have been asking for a defensive is holy priests are getting 1 shot by many mechanics other healers survive, due to the lack of cd to rely on, the only way there to use desperate prayer in those situations is to preemptively cast it while the priest is at 100% hp just so they have a higher hp pool to survive the mechanic that is SUPPOSED to be survivable. This ruins the whole point of the spell and anyone could agree if its forced to be used in this way it is by far the weakest defensive in all of wow.

as a resto main they definately suffer abit in tank healing and in low numbered content (mythic plus) they are awesome in raids though, they can just put out so much once their crit is high enough, their mana just gets insane

holy to level is actually easier than disc, you get an OP aoe for big pulls that kill things super fast!
