FNG Podcast Episode #7
Have you ever wondered......
What's the most visible color in water?
Do stripers hurt bass population on Lanier?
Do fish feel pain?
Do fish have a sense of smell?
How does a fish's lateral line work?
In this episode of the FishNorthGeorgia podcast, we introduce to you Shan O’Gorman. A Fisheries Biologist graduate from the University of Georgia, Shan has over 20 years in the field in various aspects. He sits down with us to discuss the characteristics of bass in general and answers specific questions about bass physiology. He also shares his thoughts behind pond and lake management, and brings us the term Relative Weight, which he uses to help determine the health of the fish in a given body of water. Through experience and stories, anyone can better understand the bass and their habits from listening to Shan. All this and much more on the episode of the FNG podcast.

Hi Danny, best informative podcast yet. Love picking his brain on stuff. It took me 4 different times to finish it since it was long, but well worth it. 👍

Hey Danny great pod cast, liking all the information. I was the angler that gave you the Fin Clip and I just wanted to expand more about the use of Fin Clips. Basically the Fin Clip keeps the fish upright in the livewell so it's not lying on its side fighting to stay upright the entire time in the livewell giving the fish time to decompress naturally. Fin Clips have been around for many years most, if not all, of the pros use them -especially in those deep fisheries up north for smallmouth and have been proven to be a useful tool that goes hand in hand with fizzing the fish. There is no guarantee keeping fish alive in a livewell, but using as many tools as we can to increase the chances like treating the water, fizzing them if needed, using the fin clips to keep the fish upright, and using ice to cool the livewell water down really ups the percentage. It's all about trying your best to keep that fish alive and comfortable increasing the chances of it making it. I would think most guys would agree tournament or not like to see fish swim away. That is why I have a dedicated box on my boat with all those tools available and ready if needed it's basically a first aid kit when fishing. I attached a link for the clips if anybody is interested. Keep up the great Pod Cast Danny I like watching and listening brotha and I hope that fish you caught swam away to be caught another day. www.tacklewarehouse.com/Fishlife_Fin_Clips_3pk/descpage-FLFC.html?from=gshop&gclid=Cj0KCQiA0ZHwBRCRARIsAK0Tr-pqs-g5fSYGZlID28u9OVqTYt199YpINLD2Y8Kjlwo8Hn6hO2dXt5gaAtq8EALw_wcB

Ok guys I enjoyed watching this on a Bass Guys Perspective ! But I fish for Panfish , now pretty much exclusively on the Big Impoundments of N.E. Ga ,Corps Lakes and Georgia Power . Could you get a DNR FISHERIES Biologist to speak on these Fisheries and the Panfish species and management for Trophy Size Panfish ! Crappie, Bluegills, Shellcrackers, Yellow Perch, and Redbreast , etc . It may sound crazy ,but Bass are not every fisherman's cup of tea !!

We are definitely looking for more opportunities to branch out to all the different species here in North Georgia. Hopefully we can get some out soon. Thanks for checking us out here.

Wayne Gordon I just saw this comment, sorry about the delay. Since many of our lakes are bass heavy that means most bass are the same size. That also means their mouths are the same size. If a sunfish (bluegill, red ear, etc)is lucky enough to live and gets big enough that the average bass can’t eat it then it grows to trophy sizes. A bass heavy lake is a trophy bluegill lake by default. the key to growing any trophy fish is limiting their numbers allowing plenty of food for the remaining fish to grow huge. I hope this helps, thanks for watching. Tight lines!

Adam Cawley the first thing I saw looked like the mountains on a coors kite can. And I was just starting trying to figure out what I was looking at. It was those ridges on its back sticking up, each one was bigger than my hand. I thought each one was some kind of fish until my eyes finally adjusted to the scale. It was a beast of a fish
