Debo, you are one of my most trusted bass fishing resources. I am an experienced angler (aka old dude) that wants to upgrade some treble hooks. I cannot understand the meaning of the sizes and how they come up with them. I know that different hook manufacturers can be different, but how can I make sure that I am buying the right hooks (sizes, shanks, gap, etc.). Go on Tackle warehouse and you'll see...totally complicated. We need help and Debo is the man to do it!
@DEBOSFishing4 жыл бұрын
I did do a vid similar to that here. Remember the smaller the number, the smaller the treble hook. Size 12 is smaller than a size 4. There are also 1x, 2x, 3x, strength hooks. 2x and 3x are a bigger stronger hook compared to a 1x. Hope this helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZPEqYOabKmmpdU

Nice video about a subject not often covered. I swap mine to Gamakatsu Single 56 - Single Hooks, Easer catch and release, less damage to feeeesh and you just made it two thirds less likely to snag weed. Some would say you're two thirds less likely to hook-up but on balance I prefer the Gamakatsu Single Hooks. But that's just me, and we is all different.

Also, most of the ponds I found so far here in Ohio have a of that just muck grass. My favorite pond especially has it. Has a lot of moss on top too (that is slowly going away. This pond is great for regular frogs. You get blow ups all day. No matter time or weather conditions. You just have to fish them slow and more of just steady rather than walking or even kinda popping. I want to find something I can fish deeper and moving. Any ideas?!

Hey Debo, Good stuff as usual! Thanks for the two in one trick. Looks like a time saver. I am going to have to try that! I haven't been changing the hooks out for very long but I found out something that may be useful to other fishermen out there: There are a lot of ponds and lakes in my area (North Central Indiana) that have tons of grass in them right now. I discovered that changing to a short shank, wide gap hook like the Mustad KVD trebles makes getting through the grass much easier and allows me to use bigger hooks without hanging up on the grass, the lure or the other treble hooks on the lure. It doesn't hurt my hook-ups at all, even seems to improve my ratio a bit! Hopefully, this might be helpful for someone else! Thanks for another awesome video!

You do a great job explaining this stuff! I've been looking for an answer to a question as I dig deep into my pocket to fund a batch of replacement hooks for (starter) the S. King KVD 1.5 square bills. If I'm using a medium power/moderate action 7'0 crankbait rod to throw most of these 3-5 ft. baits with, I'm thinking of getting the KVD 1x strong 2x short Mustad Triple grip trebles (due to popular support). Not sure what kind of hook comes stock on these baits, but if that Triple Grip is somewhat heavier gauge do you think I need to be concerned if the extra weight could negatively influence how the bait will run, and will the medium power (along with the moderate action) be sufficient to get a decent hookset with that somewhat stoutier treble hook? (I'm likely going to fish it on 12# Invizx.) Your opinion/thoughts would be much appreciated.

@kevinharrigan27273 жыл бұрын
I can’t stand trebles myself, no matter what I’m doing I always end up sticking myself with them, and like someone else said, they definitely hurt the fish much more than necessary, be it by foul hooking or whatnot. I use the shortest shank single hook possible (I like the short shank Eagle Claws myself) and a second tiny key ring helps the alignment issues with a single hook vs the harder to find inline hooks.
