Bass Fishing with a WACKY Rig SENKO on Spinning Gear - Nice Bass!

Today I am bass fishing with a wacky rig Senko and catching nice bass on spinning gear! Thats right, I am fishing 8 lb. mono on a medium fast action rod with a spinning reel. Spinning gear can be fun to use because it is often lighter than a baitcaster. It can cast lures that weigh less, and also use lighter line. Make sure that drag is set when using light line and watch out for snags. While it might be easier to fish, it is also easier to lose your favorite lure due to the line breaking. Try bass fishing with a wacky rig on spinning gear, you just might catch a few nice bass.

Now you’re talking my language! I’m the wacky rig queen 🤣 In my cold clear pressured waters here in NY, I get great results with orange/green pumpkin laminate 4” Senkos or Cinnamon color 4” Senkos. I’ve tried tons of other brands of worms but none produce like the real deal Yamamotos. I noticed you were sort of working it like a jerkbait with lots of action; I tend to fish mine a lot gentler and slower. But it obviously worked on those nice fish you caught!

Nice. I use the wacky a bit too and I usually do pull the bait almost to the surface. I tend to play around a bit though with it. Go down to 8 pound just to have more fun. Fish on and keep doing what ya love.👌👍😊

I fish everywhere in really pressured SoCal ponds. If ya really want to kill on the wacky in bluestone stained or clear water with really high pressures, or just catch almost every finicky cruiser (some exceptions). Don't bother with the full profiles (unless you have a pattern on them) go for the thin senkos, no the slowest fall rate but definitely slower than the normal one (4-6 sec a foot). Such with 8lb and under can turn a bad day into a great one.

I was in the same rut with the Texas rig, but man I have been having some fun with the wacky setup. I've been catching more fish using a 4" senko...largemouth, rock bass, even some huge red ears.

Where I fish everything is extremely pressured if you want to really catch them on a wacky rig get some 4 or 5 inch trick worms or finesse worms, they work alot better for bass where I am.

Fishing that Senko across the top is probably a lot like fishing a weightless worm. I've had good luck through the weeds fishing a good sized worm that I would use for a Texas Rig and rigging it the same way and just leaving the bullet weight off. I believe when the fish are shallow in the weeds they are basically waiting for whatever comes across the top so they can strike up from beneath it. Have to use a spinning rig or be satisfied with short casts from a baitcaster. Too bad I don't have any weeds to fish through in my pond or I would try both methods and see what happened. 😉👍🦈🎣🚣‍♀️👩‍🌾 Damn nice feisty fish in any case. LOL

Love Gary's baits. I've tested other brands with same line in the same day and Gary baits always prevail. Only issue with them is that they are not as durable then some of the other brands and cost. @flfishingguy .... Green Pumpkin & Watermelon is fire here all year round...

My saving grace has been using 3/8" OD thin wall clear shrink tubing cut about 1/4" long. Shrink in place &hook through work&tubing together like normal. Typically prevents the worm from passing over the eye of the hook so ya can catch a ton of fish on it before it gets really damaged. 10× better(&cheaper)than o-rings or whatever fancy products there are.

People tell me I'm nuts, but I use from 6lb to 4lb mono for fresh water. I catch everything from panfish, catfish, pickerel, trout, and bass. Of course, the bass usually aren't as big in South Jersey as the ones you caught there...lol

Peanut butter and jelly Senko worm is my all time go too worm. Believe it or not Red tomatoes with black flake. Pretty damn good 👍 and the purple with Blue flake is damn good 👍 those 3 colors anywhere any day works great for me same set up accept i use Mach crush 2 Lews. Very great bass Rod n Reel. Try those colors promise you won't be disappointed...

My experience with GY senkos, 2 casts,(texas rigged) 2 catches, 2 baits gone. Still have the rest of the pack. Guess I need to try the wacky rig setup.

With senkos, I always use an oring for wacky rigs. Otherwise the hook tears through pretty quickly. However, trick worms hold up good. so, for those I do not use an oring.

I didn't know this but TacticalBassin pointed out. The senko and most senko style stick baits have a natural bow or curve in it. And when rigging, especially wacky rigging, you want to rig it with that bend pointing down to give more action.

I use hair ties as well, becareful, a tip I can give, make sure you dont leave them warm wet and damp place for months at a time, they slowly start to deteriorate, and your left with a black goo over anything in the same storage area. keep at 'er

You are fishing it a little fast. Let it sit on the bottom for a sec, then pull the bait up slowly and let it fall and sit again. Promise you will catch more fish.

There is something magical about those true Senkos. I hate paying for them, but they work so good I have too. I've tried about six other stick baits and haven't found one that performs as well weightless, wacky style. Still in search of a cheaper alternative.
