VoicePlay just held a charity auction for their Patrons. Among the 13 lots auctioned off were most of the costumes from this video, each with a certificate of authenticity. About $3500 was raised this time for Save the Music Foundation. Geoff arranged this and was responsible for the costuming, set, direction and editing. Eli did the fabulous lighting. It was filmed at Pattycake Productions studio which is owned by Layne and Tony (former VoicePlay baritone). Tony also helped with the directing.

Just one thing to add to the brilliance of this. In the behind the scenes video we got to see Cesar doing the Single Ladies dance in his chain mail - some ballet too, which Geoff joined in with. Believe me, that alone was worth being a patron for. I want them to do a video with Cesar dancing now. :)

Geoff doing ballet! If I had a penny to spare I’d pay to see that! LOL. And yeah, we got a LITTLE Cesar dancing with If I Were A Rich Man/Girl, but I only wanted more.

In the case anyone who doesn't know much about Skyrim is watching, the language they transition to is Dovahzul, the language of the dragons. It's a conlang that was developed in part for the game, and was continued by fans of the game. Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin, naal ok zin los vahriin Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal! Ahrk fin norok paal graan fod nust hon zindro zaan Dovahkiin, fah hin kogaan mu draal! Dragonborn, Dragonborn, by his honor is sworn, To keep evil forever at bay! And the fiercest foes rout when they hear triumph’s shout, Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray! This is also the first verse of the song Dovahkiin, which is the Skyrim theme. They also say "Fus Ro Dah!", which is the first shout you learn in the game, and the most recognized one even by non fans. This is the Unrelenting Force shout, and sends out a wave of force that ragdolls opponents and sends them flying. It is also in Dovahzul, meaning "Force Balance Push!"

So, the original version in the game was simply the English verses and sung by tavern bards in game, unaccompanied. The simple melody in game is the basis for any number of covers. This particular arrangement, however (and unless I miss my guess), is based on one of the oldest and most famous covers of the song by youtuber Malukah, and I'm hesitant to call it a cover because she added an (albeit simple) instrumental guitar and harmonies to the music. All of which you hear as this piece progresses. Now if I'm right on that, Voice Play takes it, adds their own bite (including the main menu tune before the Dovahkin part starts) and plays around with the harmonies. Obviously changes the simple instrumental into acapella parts. But yeah, no mistaking this is based around Malukah's cover. Incredibly well done, though, as always by Voice Play.

Have you done any Pentatonix? I don't think they would fit with the Skyrim vibe I saw. But they do have two sci-fi type. First is Daft Punk Medoly, which they shot for $400, and won their first Grammy.. Second one is Love Again. If that's what your after. Otherwise you cant go wrong with any of their stuff. BTW their version of Hallejuah by end of the week will have 700 Million views. That's just the "official" video, when you add in the other vids like the lyrics videos etc.. It's already over 1Billion. (forgot to say, that is Pentatonix as in the Pentatonix scale)

Well don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. There’s always got to be one. I don’t see it as him trying to outdo bass Geoff . What he’s doing is trying to do is let us know what notes he’s hitting and just how much effort it takes to get there. If you don’t want to watch a reaction then go watch the original but don’t be so pissy about it. Talk about trivial and childish!
