Back in the day bass solos were unheard off in Christian music. Thank God for Abraham Laboriel he opened the door and everyone walked in.

I wish I had access to these youtube and other musical resources way back in the 90s when I used to be a bass guitar player, maybe I would have become a better and greater player. All many of us here in Nigeria had then as Don rightfully said was Abraham Laboriel whom almost every bass player in this part of the world wanted to emulate and Tom Brooks for the keyboard players. They were dons on their instruments and were untouchable I tell you. Thank God for Don Moen, Ron Kenoly and a few others for bringing Abraham, Tom Brooks and Justo Almario to us and teaching/leading us into deep worship and praise of our Almighty God in our young and formative years.

Abe inspired and still inspires me

I think it’s not about the technique but Abe was the inspirational bass player and becomes as an bass idol for us as a bass player in gospel music. I think all musicians must know their part when they can dominant or when they must keep the groove Cmiiw

I understand a technique and I admire these players the only thing that I can't stand is they don't respect the Pioneer who invented it it was Larry Graham and just called thumping and plucking whoever changed it to slapping they need to get it right I'm old-school you can call it whatever you want to call it but I think the man needs his respect once again I like the techniques but respect the originator his originality

When someone tells you how you should play is when the like of Jaco, Marcus, Pino and so on cease to exist. There is no 'correct'. They want to play rhythm? It's a rhythm instrument.
