I just turned 45 this year and I’ve always wanted to play the bass since I was in high school. I’ve tried several times to get into the bass but I let life get in the way, now that my kids are grown up and don’t need me so much I feel that this is a great time to really get into learning the bass seriously. Your lessons have been and absolute life line for me, I’ve bounced around other sights for information on scale and other fundamentals but none of them have your approach. I’ve found you lessons are easier to follow and I get more mileage from your lessons. I travel for my job so I’m planning to take my bass with me on the road so while I. Sitting on my ass in the hotel after work that so I’ll be prime time for some great practice sessions. Keep the videos coming, thank you.

I've tried learning the guitar but my left hand (I'm right handed) is messed up from martial arts training (first time I blocked a kick I did so with an open relaxed hand and now my pinky works in mysterious ways). I think that bass might be more up my alley. I have a good sense of rythm and usually when I am tapping my fingers along with music it's the rythm section that I follow along with. Before the guitarists reading this say that I just need to stretch my hand more and it comes with practice, let me just mansplain my condition. I hyper extended the tendons and damaged the joints in my pinky finger, when I try to extend my pinky and use it for the fret board for more than 7-10 minutes I experience excruciating pain causing my hand to cramp up and if I am holding something I won't be able to let go for a few minutes. I tried plucking a bass a friend of mine has and it was fairly easy and did not put strain on my left hand as much. What is a good beginner bass? Do I need an amplier made for the bass or can I use any electric guitar amp? I have the Fender electric guitar starter kit with the amp and I am asking because no one in Iceland will buy it used and I am thinking of recycling it somehow.

Your videos are showing me that there’s a LOT of basic fundamentals I need to work on, which is a great thing! Your explanation is so thorough, these are incredibly well-made. Thank you for being streamlined, watchable, funny, and not having any of those KZbin ads! Sidenote about ads: nobody is gonna get upset if you plug your own product. I’d be more than happy to watch you plug your product in the video for 30 seconds rather than seeing a toilet paper ad or something for 10. when I was 18 a long time ago I knew this guy who was a jazz guitarist. I had been playing drums for years but found myself listening to bass more and more. He said he could teach me bass. First lesson was at least two hours long. He explained whole steps half steps then he got right into the 7 modes and the different hand positions for each mode because it helped me understand it by playing it. That was lesson one. over the next few months he expanded with arpeggios, pentatonic scales, playing to chord progressions, what ever. If I wanted to learn a song, I had to go figure it out for myself. and I did. I thought were done when he hit me with harmonic minor, melodic minors and the modes, chord structures and everything else within. all by the numbers within 6 months I could play along to jazz. all because he simplified everything and cut out the bs. of course i used to practice 8 hours a day. That helped

Just today I got the urge to learn to play bass but I’m hesitant because I’ve tried piano, bought it and I haven’t touched it in years…but something about bass seems different and less intimidating. Should I wait and expand my knowledge on how to play bass or go with my gut? I’m super excited and it’s so tempting to just drop the money and get it now because I’m afraid I’ll lose interest later before even giving myself the chance to try. I need help😖😖

I played my grandmother's piano for years, but it's in storage because there's not enough room in my little apartment, not even for the digital piano. My late husband left me his bass (sold off all the others except the acoustic 12-string) and after 7 years, I'm finally going to learn how to play it properly even though I fiddled with it some 30 or so years ago. Yours is the first channel that came up. No need to look further at the moment. Thanks!

Wanted to play bass for the longest time and I received one as a Christmas present. Your videos have really helped me learn and stop the bad habits I have picked up when your first learning, especially how to pluck the strings properly and how to mute other strings when you need to. Thank you so much

The share the load bit was amazing, I use all 5 digits on my right hand (I relearned how to play with all my fingers after I broke both my wrists at the same time in middle school and then improved it learning from a classical guitar masterclass at a teachers convention in Florida in College)

So is Fender P Bass a good one? My brother in law gave me his old Fender P Bass and I just got new strings for it and I honestly only know how to restring a guitar? Is it the same the strings on it are older than I am it’s a 95 or 97 model. It’s black with a white pick guard.😀 I wanna play like Lemmy and yes I know he had a Rickenbacker but hey it’ll help me get the “Bass-icks” of a bass down at least so one day I can update to a Lemmy model or even a Cliff Williams Stingray.

I knew a guy a long time ago that could only use two fingers, left hand. He wasn't fancy, but he was solid. He could hang with a lot of blues and country, some rock stuff. Obviously he wasn't doing tons of Rush, but he could get through some Black Sabbath. Sometimes he simplified things, did it his own way. Practice practice practice. Do what you can. If you love it, do it man. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. The more you do the better you'll get. Good luck man!

my hands are so big i have to use my ring finger when you say to use pinky XD i played upright bass for a few years, and then a series of head injuries made me lose my memory about a year ago and i no longer have access to the upright bass, but i have my dads old bass guitar and am trying to reteach myself how to play bass. i have been struggling to remember things and finally decided i needed outside help, and this is where your stuff has really helped. thank you so much.
