I used to be one of these discouraged fishermen. What I've found is, YES, it is a location thing. You can cover a whole lake and with bad luck and timing, 70% or more of your casts just might not put a lure in eyesight or earshot of the fish. This is why people are so protective of their "spots" more so than they are with whole bodies of water. Picking up bass fishing and expecting to go out and slay every day was a huge mistake I made when I started. What I ended up finding is that you need to take LOTS of time and failure, explore the obscure areas and find your own spots. New original spots, instead of asking around to share others spots. There are plenty out there, and they may even change over time, but you can find the reliable "honey holes" that you hear about. The important thing is the know that exploring and getting skunked some days is still making progress, and tomorrow, that weird spot you thought about while looking at maps might be the one.

To add to my last comment, I have always remembered what The King Mr. Bill Dance taught me one rainy Sunday when he said, when you are working your bait if anything at all feels out of place "Simply" lol in the words of Mr.Bill set the hook. More times than not you will be surprised to find a bass has gobbled up your bait.

4:04 This video is really speaking to me at 4 mins in. I’ve catfished all my life (48yrs old) never had luck with bass. I bought a pontoon in 2020 & have it docked on a lake 20 minutes from the house here in Ohio. My father in law & I really wanted to get into bass fishing last year & went out every Fri afternoon after work. Only had 1 pole when I started last year, then bought a second so I could have 2 rigs set up. Didn’t catch not one bass & my father in law caught maybe 2. Fast forward to this season…I bought 2 more poles so I now have 4 rigs. It’s the end of June & I had no luck all year as of yesterday, then I caught my first 2 bass. Both under a pound but I now have my confidence lure!!! The biggest shock was how the bass strike. I was expecting a big strike but both bass I thought were snags. I don’t know if bigger bass strike harder but now I know when it feels like a snag it could be a bite. Thanks for the videos!

Once you find a spot where they bite, and if you're with a buddy, you can "double up" on the bass. When bass are caught, they often panic and regurgitate their stomach contents so they can fight better. Other bass know this and will follow them around (as you noted a bass following your bass in another video) and eat that up. So before you land your fish, your buddy can drop his bait into the water near your fish and catch another bass easily - doubling up! You should do a video on this.

I almost always have a Jig, Spinnerbait, Buzz Bait and Senko on my deck. Sometimes a Crankbait, I track what I catch the fish I weigh in during tournaments and really don’t need anything else. There was a time that I didn’t lay out the Senko because that’s what every co angler fished. For some reason they stopped? I could really just fish a Spinnerbait and a Jig.

Some of my most memorable fishing days on the lake, were spent in the “suck” mode for 6 hours, then only to move and find the feeding bass. For the next few hours, it was great fishing. Don’t be afraid to run the boat to another part of the lake. Use your guts and instincts and If you want to try somewhere else, do it. I always think of Bassmaster Classic winner Randy Howell on Guntersville.

Exactly bud. From my experience on any body of water , 75 to 95 % of that body of water is fishlless. Give or take a certain percentage but the main thing is you have to actually work at it if you wanna catch bass. Many mornings after I could not feel my casting hand from casting over n over n over. You have to love love casting and hitting your target like throwing a base ball. Ounce you understand that the bait you choose is secondary.

First off, love your videos. most are very informational. BUT, in southwestern New Hampshire we have a lot of small lakes and ponds. 1500 acres or less. catching 5lb + isnt as common as down south and not very often you catch more than one fish in a spot is rare. some. most videos on youtube are for the big southern and western lakes. only northeastern lake ive seen fished is champlain

I'd call being in the wrong area sucking at fishing at a certain point. It's very similar to setting up tree stand in a downtown business district where, or a duck blind in the middle of the Mojave. There's hope, though. Nobody has to suck forever if they're willing to learn.

Fellow Ohio Angler. Fish the South West portion mostly. Always trying to improve and become more competitive within my club. I'll admit I've always struggled with the fast fishing. I'm very methodical when I work an area and I'm sure I waste a lot of time as a result. At what point do you slow down? Covering water quickly makes since, but there is also the argument of not leaving fish to find fish. When your on them, what is the deciding point to move on? I've had times where yes I'm on them, but they don't have the size I need. When is that deciding factor that you leave fish to hopefully find bigger fish?

I am still a beginner. So trying to learn, but only ever have known the basic push button bait casters. I am also only able to fish 3 bodies of water in my area because of either distance or because of being restricted to bank only fishing. Granted, I am happy to catch anything. Bluegill, crappie, bass, catfish, etc. But I don't have a confidence lure yet. I was traumatized as a kid away from fishing for years, so just getting back into it. But the 4 times I have been out, I have gotten skunked 3 times and one baby catfish the other time. But I have been buying lures whenever I have a chance. Even have a bunch of my grandfather's old lures. I still need to learn how to use a spinning rod/reel. But, I need to learn how to tie knots as well, because it is a skill I don't possess, so I only know simple loop knots, not a clinch knot or nail knot, which I am told are the two most common fishing knots. I appreciate you teaching me things. I just feel stupid sometimes because I am restricted to a certain area and can't seem to figure the fish out. With my being diabetic, I can only walk for so long before I tire out. So I can't cover 10 miles of a creek or lake. I might be able to do 1 or 2. I also don't own a boat, and living in an apartment, probably never will. But, I am trying to learn, just wish I had someone who could break it down in a way I can learn easier and help me "get it".

I KNOW I can fish. HOWEVER, I grew up fishing in East Texas literally catching fish on bare hooks more than a few times. Now that I live in the Mid-Ohio Valley at the Ohio and Little Kanawha rivers, catching fish is WAY more challenging, especially from the banks since I can't afford a boat...and there are surprisingly FEW public access points to boot. That being said, it's very easy to internalized the bad fishing here and think that it's something I'm doing wrong. The people that grew up around here don't know how bad it is. If you don't want to catch catfish, this is NOT the best place to be.

Tyler, you are the guru that got me into fishing after retiring from the Army. Helps keep me grounded and without stress in the Army afterlife. Strictly bass, and wanted to go a different route. Of course, it is scum frogs, spooks, and jitterbugs (I know - that is real old school). However, I am strictly a kayaker and my PB is 9.98lbs. I have seen a few videos on scum fishing and that is all I do. From the time it first forms to the time it is over an inch thick. I use no electronics (transducer collects too much drag). Is there anything other than pitching and flipping that you have found to create more hook-ups? I use BB's in the frogs, and even the stinger trailer hooks sometimes. Just wondering if there is anything you have found for the super thick scum that you have found which may help all of us. Thanks again, love all your videos and all that you have provided me, thanks again for any and all information you provide, you rock.
