New unit fits very well. I would have added 4 feet on bottom of vanity to raise it up 30-40mm and avoid retiling. Unlikely you can match tile colour, batch numbers and grout colour.

me too. some vanity units have the kitchen feet or 4 x plastic stoppers.

Problem being is there is a strip on the right hand side so only going up wouldn’t solve the problem.

Raise it up to sit under the existing tiles…. White plinth out of flat arc from Gap Upvc around the bottom. No trying to match tiles, the issue is corrected at floor level and out of sight lines 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Hhhm. Could you not only raise it but also push it to the right to take up those gaps. The gap in the left is going to need a slim in fill panel, as they had before but slimmer. It would also let the left hand door open better as it won’t be tight to the wall. Everything is going to be a compromise, short of tiling and all the problems matching them up.

I used to do a lot of insurance work (damage from leaks and the like). In my experience matching tiles and grout is a nightmare. Instead I usually recommended a contrast tile and if necessary regrouping the whole affected wall.

Hi Mark, personally I'd have raised the unit from the bottom and white pvc tried the base to the floor to get around that problem. Hope this helps 🙏

Best job to tile down behind basin for a tidy finish but i dont know why they wanted to change the basin as it looked like new to me

I would have raised the whole unit from the bottom to meet the tiles. I would also have moved the unit to the right until the flooring gap was covered and put a spacer at the window edge of the unit. The run a plinth around the bottom to tidy it to the floor. Then have a think about the corner by the window....................

Hi Mark, great informative video of issues we’ve all had, have you tried the Rothenberger waste pipe cutters, I’ve had mine for years and they work very well and you get free replacement blades inside them, Screwfix sell the whole set of them which contains a 20/35/40mm cutter, you can also buy a 2 inch cutter as well.

Could you have raised it up and fit it to the right then used a filler piece to the left and a plinth around the bottom? Save ripping tiles off around the window to fit new trim and trying to match tile and grout it could stand out. What ever you choose I’m sure it will look great 👊🏼

Always enjoy your videos whenever they land Mark, unit seems to fit quite well width wise wondering if you could raise it up slightly to be just level with the bottom edge of the existing tiles then fix a new piece of white faced wood to the inside of the unit carcass around the bottom to close the gap off then silicone round the bottom to seal it 👍

It's a tricky one. I would match the tiles if poss and then tile to the floor behind the vanity unit (at least at the edges). Looks like the tiles round the window will need to come off to fit the new trim/edging too.

Hi, another quality plumbing job👍 Could you put a timber surround underneath the unit and flush with the front, just enough to fit to tiles then run a arc or bead around the bottom?

Thanks, MJ, real world plumbing. I think I would go for a chipie making a wooden base for the unit, raising it up onto the tile edge, instead of a tiler coming. I would imagine a chipie being cheaper than a tiler, but you know how it goes - you make suggestions, the customer makes decisions. One thing they tell you in college with jobs are you let the customer know from the outset, especially before they fly off into the sunset!!

Hi Mark, yep had similar problem in the past, for me first try to match tile and re tile. If that proved impossible, maybe a plinth to raise the new unit up? Obviously discussing the options with the customer first. Also ask the tiler’s opinion, he may of had this problem before? A nice film there with a bit of a conundrum, take care, regards Chris. 👍👍👍

That’s a tricky one but the key is you’d let the customer know it could be an issue before you started. Mind you, if they’re anything like me they’ll have a box of spare tiles in the garage that they’ve been tripping over for the past ten years!

Check under the bath... Recently did a house renovation was going to put a new bathroom suite in and change the toilet from a low level cistern to a close coupled.. The tiles in the bathroom although good were 15 years old. BUT when I checked behind the cistern the lazy tiler hadn't tiled behind it... There was no hope of getting the same colour tiles so I bit the bullet and removed the toilet and sink and started to knock off all the tiles... When I got to the bath I pulled if the side and front panel of the bath to find..... A spare box of the old tiles stashed under there. I could have cried 🙄🙄

I was recently invited to replace a perfect bathroom and asked the customer 'Why' !!! Was told its 'old' Your video is just that - what you installed was no better than what was installed and needed tiling etc. I declined the job For your bathroom I would have told them to spend their money on a holiday and leave the bathroom as it was and walked away!
