I just fixed mine. My local hardware store was out of the repair kit. So I placed a thin piece of plastic I cut from a child's applesauce container. I inserted the plastic behind the washer to push it out a hair. Now it works perfectly. Give it a try...

Thanks! I bought the kit at Home Depot (about $8), removed the old diverter, cleaned it up and cleaned up the inside of the spout, then put in the new washer and put the diverter back in. Works perfectly now! Thank you, thank you! (I couldn't get the spout off the pipe so did it upside down like in the video. Easy to do.)

At 2:25 it's easy to free the white plastic from the pull rod. Just find a thick screw with a pointed end, insert it between the pull rod and the spout (the end closest to you) so it will expand the white tabs, and just turn the screw by hand while pulling up on the pull rod; comes right out without damaging the white plastic.

Thank for taking your time to help others. Even though we did not get to see how to remove the diverter, it is not a hard process. I did find out that you can actually buy the inexpensive part to replace instead of buying a complete new faucet as everyone else is saying what to do. Thanks again you saved me time and money.

Looks like a bad calcium build up too. A good way is to soak that whole spout into hot water and vinegar and use a tooth brush to scrub it off

My spout leaks too. It gets nice thin streams that would leave those spots noticeably cleaner if my shower was neglected enough.

The toughest part is removing the rod from the plastic sliding piece. I tried to remove one from a diverter out of the tub and it is tough and most likely you can damage the plastic part in doing so. One of these days i am planning to make me a plastic sliding part with a 3D printer that will have threaded hole and i will male my own rod that will have a threaded end to fit on the plastic slide so all i will need is a new washer when it goes bad.

Question. What if the diverter pulled half way up gives a better shower pressure with water leaking from the spout vs very LOW pressure from the shower pulled ALL the way with no water leaking from the spout?

Because it's nearly impossible unless you have >2 arms. Took me 15 minutes of fanagling with pliers to get it off.. He mentions in the video he cannot do it while holding the phone.

If everything else is basically in good condition, you can unscrew the knob piece on the top. The rest of the diverter should then slide out of the spout.

@@charleshodgdon6168 The knob piece at the top is NOT screwed to the shaft. It is either brazed or a press fitted or a single machined part. They made it so you will not be able to easily unscrew remove the knob and fix it easily by changing the rubber washer or seal. These designers are crooks and want to make it UNREPAIRABLE so they can sell the whole unit. American Corporate GREED they are good at.

You are showing that the washer is in the wrong way. Flat side goes to mate with the clean-up surface.

You just need to unscrew the thumb pull from the top of the diverter. Everything else will then come out.

how about moen and kohler tub spout, are they the same repair kit? im using kohler brand but i cant find repair kit only moen is available that seems to me they have simillar repair kit $6 home depot👍🏼. kohler tub spout range to $50-$80 so sad😔

Unscrew the knob of the diverter and the rest should slide out the bottom of the spout. Replace the rubber piece, shove the diverter up from the bottom, and then replace the knob. If you already removed the piece from the tabs, use pliers to push the pieces back together. If your spout is covered in junk like this one, you should remove the spout and clean it. All those mineral deposits can cause a groove in the diverter. Take the spout off. Remove the rubber piece from the diverter and the one just under the knob. Place the spout, diverter, and other pieces in a container of vinegar. Do not put the rubber pieces in their as vinegar can slowly eat away at rubber. Then take everything out of the vinegar, scrub it clean, and rinse it off. Put everything back together. There are many videos on the whole process. Some do not mention removing the rubber pieces, but this is important to do.

@@charleshodgdon6168 my diverter knob does not unscrew, and yes I’ve tried pliers. Do I just break the white plastic part and hope the new one fits? Whoever installed our fixtures did a bang up job so installing a whole new diverter is out of the question without pulling down a wood wall.

This happened to me after I replaced the washer. I wound up replacing the whole spout because the inside was corroded and did not allow the washer to seal properly.

What is up with this guy? He showed one tub and faucet at the 0:15 mark, and another one at the end. In the first one, no caulk around the spout, the rack hanging from the shower head is empty, and the bottles are in the left corner. At the end, the spout has caulk sealing the fit against the tile, the rack is full of stuff, and the bottles are in the right corner. Bizarre.

it's so easy once he shows you, just take a flat head screw driver separate the plastic part out without breaking it, and up pulls the little thumb handle. Please, people, don't complain about the lack of actual repair. It's so intuitive once he tells you the problem, just put on your thinking cap. Don't expect to be spoon fed.

This is not a very good video. He doesn't mention cleaning the spout properly, didn't mention that you can unscrew the knob and the rest of the diverter slips out the spout, and no other basic information.
