Larry’s son Jack restored that car last year for the 20th anniversary of this win. He has a channel on KZbin called ‘Perkins Engineering’ and the end result was perfection. His channel also has the laps he did for the anniversary. Larry originally started in F1 before Supercars. He’s an engineer and on average of 8 or more motors in any race was actually built by Perkins engineering. I watch these reactions with pride because I know Larry personally and he’s an intelligent genuine guy. Jack is also a driver, commentator and best of all my son in law who gave me two beautiful grandchildren. Love this family 💜

Glenn Seton is an Australian racing driver. He won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1993 and 1997 while driving for his own team. Although he never won the Bathurst 1000 like his father Barry did in 1965, Glenn started from pole position in 1994 and 1996, and finished second three times. Peace out.

Holden is the "Brand", they started as a coach building company in Adelaide, Aus, after ww2 they started making cars, eventually bought by GM but down here we just kept calling them Holden, used to work for them before they closed the factory in 2017.

General motors Holden was the Australian devision of GMC however I believe they operated totally independently, as did Ford Australia..I also think it was this year that Larry was the last and only one running the Holden motor, all the other holdens had started using chev motors. I 100% know Larry was the last to run Holden motor, just not sure if it was this year. Seton was one of those drivers that everyone respected. It's really sad that he never won one, everytime he was set for a great result he either had mechanical failure or got caught up in someone elses accident. He had tragic luck. Loving the Bathurst journey mate. I look forward to you watching the famous Moffat Ford 1 2 finish which lead to Brockys famous A9X win, it was holdens response to the previous year. If you do them in that order, you'll have the right context to the history of these classic races. You're taking me back to my youth where we'd wake up early and park ourselves in front of the TV and barely move for the whole day. Thanks mate, this is awesome

Allan Moffat trying to comfort Glenn Seaton was fitting. The Canadian had plenty of heartbreak at the mountain, and he became obsessed over winning, beating Holden and the likes of Peter Brock. So too Dick Johnson, then we had the infamous rock incident. There's so much more for you to discover on this, the pure rivalry, controversy, and what it means to win Bathurst.

I remember watching this on the day, the Castrol car livery being the best looking one out there. And from memory, Larry was the the only main guy running the Holden block, the rest of the Commodore teams had converted to Chevy. He's an incredible engineer, independently producing great racecars that beat the works teams. My mate used to deliver parts to his Melbourne factory and said he's a nice bloke. Reminds me of Repco and Brabham in Richmond, which also reminds me that Larry did have a short Formula One career, most don't know that. I just looked it up, he started 11 races over 4 seasons and drove for Brabham. Larry also took a trip to Le Mans with Brocky in a Porsche 956! Speaking of Brabham, could you please do a video down the track on Sir Jack Brabham? He's an Australian icon and world beater that didn't seem to get the recognition he deserved in Australia, right up until his passing.

Hey Dude! You mentioned Holden... Holden is like Chevy in Australia. Holden is the GM Brand in Australia, GM Holden. So, the majority (or all) of the cars on the circuit are Fold or Holden. These are 4 door saloon cars and the models are: the Holden Commodore and the Fold Falcon. Personally I like the styling MUCH better on Australian Fords and Holdens compared to US Fords Chevys, and Chryslers. FYI, the 2003-2006 Pontiac GTO was basically just an Australian Holden Monaro (2-door coupe version of the Commodore) with a US badge. And a Chevy SS is just a Holden Commodore with a US badge. I don't believe there is a US equivalent to a Ford Falcon, but I wish there was.

Larry is a legend of the sport. His young son there you saw Jack is still driving this year , he'll be in one of the Coke Camaro's . He has started restoring some of the old cars. Larry owned and ran his own team and as he referred to when talking to Russell, his codriver, he had ten customers driving cars his team built. He and Jim Richards were often the codrivers for Brock's victories. The list of winners at this great race is full of legends. Jim and Larry got Brock wins. Glen Seton is definitely the best to never win it. But at least he won championship seasons. You're on a great path, leading to the big day later this year.

I remember watching this, Larry Perkins would've gathered a few fans after his amazing drive, me being one of them. This race at the time was an all Holden (Australian Manufacturer) verses Ford (Australian Division). All the fans basically turned up in either red (Holden) or blue (Ford). This usually runs in families, and would be based on if your Dad owned, or worked at one or the other. I was always a Holden man, pity them closed up shop a few years back. Check out Brocks first win at Bathurst in 1972 driving a Holden LJ Torana with a screaming 6 cylinder with triple carbs. I built myself a 4 door LC Torana when I was 18-20 (1990-92), same race engine as Brocks, 5 speed gearbox (4 speed in the originals). It would do 0-100Km/h (0-62MPH) in 5 secs flat and a flat 13 sec quarter mile, top speed 220Km/h (135MPH). It was a pretty quick car for back in the day, it'd beat most V8's except the really hot ones. Great fun.

Holden WAS an Australian built car. Larry's car was a Holden Commodore. The other make involved was Ford Falcon. Both of these were designed and built in Australia as passenger cars. The race teams would get a new road car and upgrade them to a race car. The idea was "Race on Sunday, sell on Monday, meaning that the public would watch their favourite car win on Sunday and then go to the car dealer on Monday and buy the road version as their new family car. This kept the manufacturers interested in supporting the racing with sponsorship because a win on the track increased sales at the dealership. Both Holden and Ford are now gone now in Australia as far as building them here. The models Commodore and Falcon are gone forever. In the USA imported versions of our Commodores were seen as 2016 Chevrolet SS and a 2 door version was marketed over there as a Pontiac GTO. We now race purpose built racecars similar to Nascar. We have our Gen3 Camaros and Mustangs.

You know, 'Race Cam' was developed the late 70's by channel 7 specifically for Bathurst, then adopted world wide. Originally it was a passenger mounted cam with pan & 2 way coms with the driver (microwave link via helicopter) Later they added multiple in-car cams & telemetry, they also had a thing called 'Pit Cam' (basically a small cam on a stick) for watching the pit crew change break pads etc... I also remember seeing a segment on how they had multiple microphones around each broadcast camera. They had them wired back to a mixer that was attached to each cameras mount. When the camera panned the scene the audio would get automatically routed & mixed from the closest microphone/s to the action.

Thanks Outlaw for doing more of our great race Bathurst, there is always a race official monitoring the pit crews during any refuel/driver change etc. but the pit boss is the controller who gives the go ahead and he is usually out the front watching for signals from his crew that each task is complete. he will then give the go no go as he is also watching for pitlane traffic as well, so a very pressure filled job. back in this race he would give the thumbs up to Larry Perkins who waved his team mate out. This was one of the greatest comebacks at Bathurst and Larry is a legend here as well deserved as well for such a lovely man and gun driver. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖

Perkins was one of the few Aussie drivers to make it to F1 in his younger years. His car is a 1993 Holden VS Commodore Engine 5Ltr Chevrolet. This was the first year he ran a Chev engine prior he used Holdens own v8 as the 5Ltr Formula for Supercars allowed. Chev engines were adopted as parts and components were easier to come by where as the small number of Holden powered cars had to be custom built from the sump up to keep them reliable. As an engineer primarily, Perkins was chassis and car builder for most of the commodores in the field. Most had a chassis number beginning with “PE”. In the 70s and 80s Larry partnered Peter Brock to many victories with all Holden products. Perkins built many custom parts where rules were allowed and produced the first slide throttle for each intake port and bespoke brake calipers and many other PE parts. At no time did I ever see a Perkins driven Perkins built Holden fail. The 80s and 90s were golden years for Supercars then the managing group decided these cars would be no longer eligible and Car of the Future began. That has turned racing into a procession and ruined a once great spectacle. As to your question about the driver leaving the pits this is the decision of the teams car controller. If Supercars deem a release to be unsafe or interferes with another car they get penalised.

One important piece of spectator relevance is that these brands were ones our dads drove daily - Ford, Holden, Chrysler. On Bathurst Sunday us kids would be glued to the TV shouting for 'Dad's Team' to win. On Monday at school we were mighty proud 'Dad's Ford team' won! Yeah! In the early part of Bathurst they drove the race-cars to the track, dropped the exhaust and went racing, then drove them back home. There is an amazing story you would have to see Outlaw. Its of a 1971 Ford Phase 3 GTHO (Less than 5000 genuine miles) that blew out a conrod when it became airborne at Bathurst. (The tacho is still stuck on 10,000 RPM = 186MPH in 1973) The video is at kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGPOpnZ7lpp5mJI (There is also a detailed magazine-article on its history.) Aah for the good ol' days. Ol' mate who dropped the valve, His team mate, was Alan Jones, ex Aussie F1 champ.. he stole Setons sponsors.. Not bad for a lad whose life as a race driver was stalled, Until Glen gave him a drive. What a ****.. Not sure how he's still counted as an Ozzie personally.

Holden is the brand of car. Holden is Australia's car. Bought out by GM in 1948 they were designed and built in Australia using Chevy engines . Holden ceased to exist in 2017. Your Pontiac G8 was a rebadged Holden Monaro.

Holden is the manufacturer not a driver or owner. This holden is a VN or VP commodore. So the earlier model commodore would be the VB then the VC then we had the VK and VL , then the VN and VP then the VR and VS ,VT VX and VU then the VZ after that we had the VE and the last model holden made before they stopped manufacturing and holden ceased production forever was the VF. Iv probably got some of that wrong but off the top of my head you get the gist... and now ford and holden no longer have any type of production in Australian we and now racing mustangs and cameros

Also remeber us Aussies were the pioneers of on board cameras and shorter clips like this doesn't do this tech justice. I think Mount Panorama must be the most technical circut in the world and am sure to get arguments against, thats ok.....TRY driving it.

You have to watch the incident (race) that caused Jim Richards to call EVERYONE in the crowd from the podium "You are all a pack of a..holes." He lost all respect from me, from that point forth. Not that any Nissan GT-R driver had much respect from me anyway.

Holden is the brand it a commodore their racing Larry is private team on small budget he engineered the car They buy them from factory them engineer them within the rules Glen was the most unlucky driver many times they had races won and had car failures They where a small team as well him and his dad The car Larry was harassed red with white lion on it was factory racing team and why Larry was so happy He beat the factory team on bugger all money compared to them by his own engineering No days their all professional teams with massive work shops manufacturing their own component's with in guide lines Most of part and made lighter and thinner Larry even beaten Ford factory team as well He was busy man after that start making them selling the cars to other teams and also looked after them Larry could be a feisty fellow if he didn't agree with something and wasn't scared to say it either If you watch Brock he was one of the first who spoke when driving and quite often driving it was like a Sunday afternoon He drove Holden factory cars from Torana's through to commodore's Holden is like Ford or as you know in usa GM products Fords where various models of falcons Holden where various models of Torana and commodore's ever the last one manufactured Holden was a commodore When racing Bathurst you have to have a co driver and must do a certain amount of laps before drivers can swap It just throws another thing in the mix as main driver has to hope co driver stays in touch with leaders and don't right the car off They are many rule changes over the years as you seen in pits at that time used petrol cans and 5 wheel nuts or as you know lug nuts But later on went to modern day with over head fuel line and one wheel nut the fuel changed due to fires when filling as new fueling has a return hose as well to catch any spillage as in old days use to spew out and hit hot brakes and 🔥 The race cam was invented in Australia 🇦🇺 Today they have side views showing tyre flexing in the walls also under cars showing suspension at work and quite often speak with drivers through race as this is part of super cars racing points Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍

Holden is Chevrolet. GMH in Australia is GMC in the U.S. You can see that we saw Chevrolet models then almost made our own homage. Mach 1 Mustang and XA Falcon for instance as well as the HQ Monaro and a Camaro of 71 or 72. I think it's a Camaro i am thinking of. Easiest way is if you look at an HQ Monaro and you will instantly know what Chev it is an homage of.

He created an australian Engine that was was blowing Away the ford engine.. So ford went to supercars, if you don't Ban this engine.. we are taking our bat and Ball.. And going home to Mummy.. Holden had to change to crap american Engines..
