30:38 - The line, “I am Vengeance, I am The Night, I ... Am ... Batman,” is not from this movie, but from the episode “Nothing to Fear” from Batman the Animated series. In the episode, Batman faces Scarecrow for the first time and is gassed with Fear Toxin causing him to imagine his father would be disappointed with him becoming Batman. He overcomes the fear when he realizes how important his role is in Gotham, that he needs to stop Scarecrow, and that his real father would Not be disappointed in him. He then says the line to the fear ghost of his father, hyped himself up, and goes and defeats Scarecrow and his goons.

You know, I think Michael Keaton was definitely great for the role and these movies were great for the time especially. I just don’t think Bruce has much of an arc. You simply can’t compare this to Batman Begins, a literal character study on Bruce Wayne. Now, I know people will see my profile pic and say I’m biased. But I think as a person who adores and studies film while also being a die-hard Batman fan, I can say that Begins is definitely a better Batman film and a better film overall.

Its funny that this concept hasn't applied to other films like the Raimi Spider-Man films or the original X-Men Trilogy, which aren't films I would defend but the guys were QUICK to dismiss without the caveat of "product of the time". I would expect to see a bit more consistency on how things are being "Reviewed". Then again, its KF! Inconsistency is part of the charm.

I thought it held up really well considering it's a 31 year old comic book movie. It's a testament to Tim Burton and Danny Elfman's style. I enjoyed the balance of camp and grimness. It does drag a bit and the Prince scenes were a little bizarre, but overall, I enjoy Jack Nicholson's Joker and Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne (and to a lesser extent, his Batman).

I grew up with the '89 Batman. I still love it. Granted, I know it's got many faults, but it's still fun for me. And if I'm being honest, if there was ANY reason that I go back to watch this movie, it's the soundtrack by Prince. He made some bad-ass tracks for this movie lol. I was super pumped to hear "Partyman" play during the MJ documentary "The Last Dance" lol. But yeah. I have my favorite Batman & Joker, neither of whom are from this film... But i respect its place in comic-book movie history, and i still love it.

Aw, what?! We need Andy on The Conjuring In Review! Just to get the truly terrified perspective. I don't find them scary in the slightest, psychological films are what get me more than paranormal stuff, so I would say you would definitely want a perspective of someone who doesn't scare with these films and review it as a movie itself, then get a freaked out perspective to review it as a scare film.

Fucking in the F&F movies, they drive from one skyscraper to another... and then ANOTHER, race a goddamn tank, keep a helicopter from flying away using only The Rock's incredible biceps, and resurrect a dead-ass dead character that they killed TWICE. Joker pulls out a goofy gun in a goofy movie and shoots down the Batwing and Tim's like 'Ooohkay make your excuses, man." I feel like Moose took a long piss in Tim's LaCroix this morning or something, it looks like he's commited to playing the spoiler this episode no matter how much fun everyone else is having. I know Tim is "Old movie is old" but c'mon man. Lighten up a little bit!

I would like to point out that the part where Bruce Wayne cuddles with Vickie Vale while they're in-bed and Bruce looks at her, then off to the distance would show that Bruce Wayne is wondering if he should 'pursue' a love-relationship with this woman who could bring him happiness and give up his life as a crime-fighter or should he abandon that opportunity and continue his crusade against crime? And the part where Vickie is starting to wake up and sees Bruce hanging upside down would've shown not only his muscular body, but also the many scars he sustained as Batman; which would lead her to wonder as to who is this guy? I would also like to point out a few deleted scenes that could have been included into the movie: one is when the Joker tells his men to go after Batman in order to 'ask' him where does he get his gear, but with a threatening-like tone. The second is when the police chase after Batman from the abandoned church and finds an unconscious Knox in an alley, wrapped around with the damaged cape-&-cowl, and almost considered Alexander Knox to be Batman while an unmasked Bruce Wayne makes his escape in an effort to throw the police off-trail. And there was even a third cut-scene where Vickie sees a couple of kids dressing up as Batman. I have heard that it was considered 'lazy writing' of the Joker being the guy who killed Bruce Wayne's parents. And just like the Green Goblin from 2002's Spider-Man movie, it was a mistake of killing off the Joker simply because he is 'too big' of a villain to be in just one movie. He could have either had a cameo or be the main villain again in the next movie where he would have been the one who scars Harvey Dent. It should also be pointed out that it was really out-of-character of Batman 'killing' and that Alfred leading Vickie into the Batcave was considered to be the wrong direction for the character. And I've even heard that at the ending of the movie, instead of standing upright like how Superman would, Batman should have been seen motionless while crouching next to a stone gargoyle.

Actually saw Batman in 89 at the cinema with my parents (ironic considering the beginning of the film). I remember standing on my tip toes as we walked in as I was only 9 years old (it was rated 12 in the UK) 😂

But you were with your parents, so it should have fine? UK must be different, cause in the U.S., the equivalent to the 12 rating is PG-13. Which means you need to be 13 & older to view it by yourself; however, if you come with a parent or guardian, you can watch it when you're younger. So a 9 year old in 1989 USA could watch _Batman 1989_ if they went with their parents, no tippy toes necessary

54:15 - Best guess for Ekhart instead of Bullock, AXIS instead of Ace, Arnold Flass instead of Bullock, and Ramirez instead of Montoya is probably all the same. They wanted to destroy/kill those people/places for plot reasons and save those real characters/places for possible future sequel development and use. Or the creators wanted those characters/places not wasted like that.

I just watched the music videos for bat dance and partyman and... HOLY PRINCE BATMAN that is weird!

Best movie of all time for me, No. The best Batman of all time, yes. Strikes the perfect balance of serious enough to keep me invested yet able to have fun while watching. Strikes the same tone of a Indiana Jones style of movie from the same era. Michael Keaton is a fantastic Batman. I agree almost whole heartedly with everything Nick said through out.

Jack Napier IS the Joker's canonical name in the comics. The main universe Joker's name has never been revealed, but the Jokers of numerous alternate universes ARE confirmed to be Jack Napier, so they all are, unless specified otherwise. The Burtonverse Joker was the first, but then Batman The Animated Series, Prime Earth, Gotham Noir, Batman:Detective No. 27, Batwoman TV series, and White Knight Joker are all Jack Napier. Just another reason (of many) that you can basically write off the idea that Joaquin Phoenix's character was supposed to be the real Joker.

All of the Batman's before Batman Begins lose cool points when they start to walk around the sets. They all look super awkward and clumsy. Also it feels like Tim Burton didn't really like Batman in this movie. Batman seems more in the way in this movie. Also the Rube Goldberg contraption that they had for the bat signal was hilarious. That lead me to think, who would win in a fight between Pee-wee Herman or Tim Burton's Batman? I got Pee-wee in that fight.

OMG! How wrong can you boys be! After Jack falls into the chemicals; the cops show up. Batman was looking for a way out! When he realized he was surrounded; he goes up! There's no standing around for no reason! There is no "Freaked out because he killed someone". None of it! He was surrounded, and needed a way to escape the police who saw him standing above! End of story!
