Hi all, A lot of comments about the scale. The original production drawings showed the Batwing vehicle was to be 27' in width. This model is about 6.25' wide, so its intended to be 1/4 scale. It's true that the Batwing figure is smaller. If you look at the sequence in the film when you see the 2' wide model (wider shots, shots where the Batwing is moving a lot), the Batman figure is noticeably larger within the cockpit -- probably more like the proportions the construction drawings intended. Regarding the mechanisms, nothing was removed. The original pneumatic cylinders are still present (but disconnected), and the original tracks, slides etc are still used. We just added linear actuators as "helpers" to act in place of those cylinders. As for my shirt I have no idea what happened there (something to do with the mic?!) and no defense. My collar is the next restoration project....

Stiff collar like Batman, denim Batman. Either way, great stuff, i'd love to rummage around in the propstore and just get overwhelmed with nostalgia. I grew up around helicopters and small airplanes, and I am blown away that the [refurbished] paint job even includes the "wind burn" on the wing edges just like on Helicopter rotors and airplane wings (i.e. where the wind making contact with the wing is so strong it removes the paint off the edge over time). Kudos whoever included that "small" detail

1:50 I’ve got news: the intermediate « crash shots » model is actually not lost. It’s currently on display at the Musée du Cinéma et de la Miniature in Lyon, France. Properly credited to Anton Furst and Derek Meddings and displayed above a miniature of the 89 Batmobile used in filming. If you’re interested in movie props, costumes and animatronics make sure to pay the place a visit! Thanks a lot for the presentation of this wonderful toy. It’s great to see it preserved like this, fully functional and in great shape. I didn’t realise the Gatling fire were actually strobe lights, very impressive effect. And it’s amusing to see that the Batman inside can turn its head when the real suit famously didn’t allow it. 😄 Having a NECA Quarter scale 89 Batman figure in my collection makes me realise how massive this miniature is.

I've always liked how menacing and insane the Tim Burton Batman vehicles were. They really added to the idea that he was completely unhinged. I love how the paint was a grubby matt finish too. Despite being a 'different take' on the character to the comics where these vehicles were built for death and destruction, loaded with machine guns, bombs and missiles, I still loved the badass take that Tim Burton created.
@Belzediel3 жыл бұрын
Y'know, if you take the wings off, you're left with the same basic shape of the '89 Fleiderwaggon. On that prop, where the wings would join, are the triangular technical cut ins. The Fleideraero has a pair of intakes right where the fleiderwaggon has two additional air inlets. The wing is armed with a pair of pop out miniguns, the waggon has two pop out guns. The connective tissue between the two is so strong, I am utterly convinced that the waggon was designed first, and when that happened the plan was for the fleiderwinggens to bolt on to the jalopy itself, forming the watbing. I'm also almost 100% convinced that during the design process someone (probably Timothy Burtonshelf) decided it didn't quite work and ordered up a dedicated frisbee. I maintain that this made the triangular technical cuts unnesscesary, but it was deemed either too expensive to redesign them out, too impractical if the motor was already being built, simply was left as it doesn't exactly hurt the design, or was forgotten about entire. From a narrative POV it would also make 'Le Bon Mot's bringing it down a great deal more impacty as well; he just killed the friggen' fleiderwaggon, not just one of Brucie's toys. In any case, I maintain that we've never seen the 'original' '89 batwing. Although that one is very saucy, of coursey.

@@thetombuck I imagine it would *fly* fine, but it would constantly spin out of control. Those swept-forward airfoils can't possibly maintain a nice angle of attack relative to the body, and as cool as the vertical stabilizers look, they wouldn't be sufficient to compensate for how much of a frisbee this thing is. I suppose a nice compromise might be to make it something like a B-52 with proper wings containing large engines and then shape THOSE like the curled-around bat wings. That's a wing on a wing! Someone call Xzibit.

I agree with them. Tim Burtons Batman has the most iconic designs for vehicles. The Batman Forever Batmobile is ugly and the Dark Knight trilogy it's too realistic and militarised looking.
@iggysixx3 жыл бұрын
Very iconic - the way all the shapes in the vehicles are reminiscent of the bat symbol (this vehicle in particular, of course), and are very organic - like they're based on sharks, rays, and bats. That gives the suggestion that they are somehow more aerodynamic and may work better than the vehicles that normal people have at their disposal. I like the vehicles in The Dark Knight trilogy as well, though. The Tim Burton film is more like the fantastical comic book world. The Dark Knight trilogy aims for more of a 'this could be real' type of feel. So the vehicles are designed in a more practical 'real world' type of way. The 'military' type designs really sells that they could exist in real life. I will always have a soft spot for the turbine driven batmobiles, though :) . (As well as for bushes that move to the side, and a road block that flips down, as the batmobile emerges from a cave ;))
@warriorsheartcosplay30163 жыл бұрын
Don't forget, Morgan Freeman's Fox was designing and building everything for the US military in the first place. The Batmobile, or Tumbler, was built as a bridging vehicle for crossing rivers, and the Batsuit was originally intended as next-gen infantry protection.
@captainjefferies90472 жыл бұрын
It's wild the way people accept that the crap in that movie is "realistic" because the director said so. The Batmobile in Batman 89' was fully functional. It wasn't some model that they had umping from building to building. Everything in the Nolan Trilogy is stupid.
