Almost like the hulk and bruce banner if the hulk took over like in ragnarok. Finally blowing up the mansion destroying all that remains of bruce.. that's Bruce Wayne at the end but no longer the Bruce we have always known.. now hes just The Batman as you said.

Neh, its not this complicated and hidden. The game basicly tells you everything in order to understand the ending. Short version is Batman faked his death, but he actually "killed" Bruce Wayne in order to be a full time new Batman. Hes more radical because the amount of toxin in his body kinda made him "crazy". At the end we have a lot of time inside his head when he switching between Joker and Batman. At the end Batman "wins" but he changed. He got even more motionless, brutal. Also he states in the game that this batman has to die in order to a new Batman could rise in his ashes thats even scarier than the actual Batman. So he fakes his death and come back with an even more brutal and scarier version of batman.

Even Scarecrow says at the end "Maybe you'll become a ghost", if you wait long enough instead of going to the storage depot. Penguin taunts Batman about getting a new costume if you complete his story after Scarecrow... The novelization adds the detail of Green Eyes, which Batman has been fighting throughout the game... Also, Sefton Hill said in an AMA that Batman, as in this Batman, becomes a more badass version of Batman at the end... Batman wasn't a myth anymore. He was a man in a costume who worked with the police and had allies and sidekicks. It's not about changing the man behind the mask, but about creating a new, more powerful myth...

It's clearly Bruce Wayne wearing a new suit. It isn't all that difficult. Everyone saw Bruce/Batman die. This new Batman shows up, new suit, new "fear" tactics, etc. they don't think it's Bruce because they think he's dead. He isn't using fear toxin on the thugs. The thugs are already infected with fear toxin because they didn't evacuate the city during the events of Arkham Knight. Remember the gigantic cloud of fear toxin? It's stated that minute traces stay in the person's body forever. Remember flying around Arkham and hearing thugs say "stupid panic attacks, stupid fear gas! I only breathed a whiff of the stuff!" This was a full 24-48 hours after Crane released his toxin inside the diner. The entire city was enveloped in a cloud of fear gas for at least several hours. The civilians evacuated so they weren't affected and didn't freak out when they saw Nightmare Batman. The thugs did, because they were exposed to the toxin.

Everything about your theory makes sense except the fear toxin thing. After poison ivy gets rid of the gas, the thugs are still eager to fight Batman whenever he drops down in front of them. If Batman really looked like that demonic creature because of the cloud burst, the thugs would have ran away in a hurry. My best guess for why the civilians aren't effected is that Batman shot the criminals with some kind of fear toxin dart before revealing himself.

Remember he said to have order with criminals you need to strike fear, and everyone lost fear to batman since he was unmasked. Nightmare/Ghost Batman is Bruce Wayne. True he's most likely using the Batman beyond outfit, but since he's now immune to Scarecrow's toxins, and no doubt took some for himself to reverse engineer his own version of the toxin that he can somehow use against criminals without them knowing and not affecting bystanders. Batman himself said that Gotham needed something scarier than Batman, so why not make a scary-ghost batman where criminals will now say that Batman is haunting the city, that would freak any criminal out.

I always thought of this part of the ending as a metaphor for the larger impact Batman has had on Gotham. The idea that Scarecrow was wrong about all his work being pointless. I mean, the whole reason Batman put on the cowl and became Batman was because he never wanted others to go through what he went through. Then showing a boy who is obviously supposed to be a mirror to child-Bruce having his parents saved by something that brings to mind fear is showing that the fear of the Batman by criminals and the ghost of his legend has stopped Bruce's situation from ever happening again.

Not that much time has passed between Batman's "death" and the appearance of Nightmare Batman. Flip of a Coin makes Nightmare Batman happen very close to the ending of the main game. Tim Drake has gotten married to Barbara (a wedding that took place almost immediately after Nightmare Batman ending, based on Gordon's text message) and Gordon's mayor signs are still all over. Gordon is still using the same photo of Barbara/Drake on his phone that you see on her bookcase in the Clocktower, and neither of them has aged at all. Generously, 3 years have passed, but it looks more like 1 at the most. The DLC also says that Red Hood is currently protecting Gotham while Nightwing is in Bludhaven and Tim/Barbara were away. So we can discount the possibility that ANY of them are Nightmare Batman. Secondly, Terry McGinnis is never once even suggested to exist in the game. While Batman fans may enjoy the other series, we shouldn't make the leap of faith that he's an inevitability for this Batman's world. Batman spent a year training some random kid to be the new Batman? Or is it just more likely that Batman, having been exposed to and defeating the toxin, retires from any personal relationships and becomes Nightmare Batman?

I think that’s actually what happened. Which makes the tragedy of Batman/Bruce Wayne even more dark and depressing. For him to inevitably succumb to, or even give in to the influence of Scarecrow’s Fear Toxin plaguing his psyche is really sad. Not only that, but the fact that he knew what was happening to him, which is why he cut off everybody he was connected to by giving out personal goodbyes attributes to the darkness that his legacy entailed. It only makes you wonder what Bruce’s final interaction with Alfred was like before he eventually lost his mind. 🤔

Yes he cut off from the Robins & Gordons, but there's no proof he doesn't have new allies or won't connect with them later on. The main thing is making criminals believe Knightmare Batman is a demon/ghost instead of a detective in a bat cowl. Also, Alfred & Lucius 100% joined him full time. There's no way Bruce's most loyal allies would leave him like this. Alfred even joins Bruce in his staged death.

The trick to riddler stuff, for me, was to do it as soon as i came across it, if I could, and after the story, I would do riddler stuff in between other side quests. After all the side quests, I had ~20 riddler trophies/riddles, and that was VERY manageable. Also, other than car chases, I would ALWAYS drop what I was doing to interrogate riddler goons.

Hey people isn't the ending obvious. Batmans biggest fear was the joker so when he was exposed to the fear toxin he saw the joker who was dead. Every criminal in Gotham city was exposed to the fear toxin when scarecrow released it over the city. Their is NO new batman but the fear of batman remains within the minds of the criminals and supervillians alike. They know he is dead, but their biggest fear is the batman coming back from the dead and breaking their bones and foiling their plans. Hence why the fear fixing shows batman as a demon rather then the BATMAN himself.

If they would be a Post-Arkham Knight Battle for the Cowl story arc, it can't feature Nightwing, Red Hood, and Red Robin. Because these three have already planned for their own futures and Batman completely abides to them. So the story would be better off with new people. I'll make this short and sweet since it seems like you couldn't be bothered to get to the point. The Knightfall Protocol is designed to kill batman and fake Bruce's death. This is referenced a few times - The Dark Knight Returns is one of them where Bruce fakes his death and goes in search of a new Batcave with Robin and the Batman followers as well as the Batman: Knightfall comic where Azareal takes over as Batman when Bane manages to find the Bat Cave and breaks Batmans back (again, referenced in The Dark Knight Rises). Bruce knows now that he cannot continue as the physical batman, because of revealing his identity as Batman after removing the cowl and stopping Crane/Scarecrow soon after as well as defeating Joker and leaving him in a cell (which is a symbol of that he's finally gotten rid of the titan toxin in his blood), so he goes back to Wayne Manor in the batwing and proceeds to destroy Wayne Manor with him and Alfred inside, which we know is not true as he needs to fake his death as well as fake Batman's death in order to make the bad guys believe that Batman is gone and dead. I believe that Bruce has some sort of fear toxin as when you watch the ending (100% Knightfall ending), it shows that Batman is more or less a demon/ghost version and is now the myth which Bruce wanted. He got rid of the suits, the gadgets and went back to square one - "The Bat" being a myth and not "someone wearing a costume" (as Flash puts it in Justice League: War) and scares the bad guys to no end. This also backs up the theory that Bruce somehow managed to get a batch of fear toxin during his final battles as Batman with Scarecrow, Harley, Penguin, Two Face, Deadshot and Jason Todd/Arkham Knight/Red Hood as it strikes fear back into the hearts of the villains.

I'd like to believe that the hallucination at the end is Terry McGinnis, but the evidence provided in this video seems circumstantial at best. Keeping in mind that Terry is more or less Bruce's son, he adapted to the role of Batman a lot quicker than any of Bruce's successors could. Barring the mental abilities, Terry inherited his father's physical talent to the point of pitting his street fighting skills against actual martial artists with surprising success. Given this, I really don't see Terry making use of the fear toxin when taking up the mantle of Batman. Bruce would be able to see the strategic value in using fear toxin. Terry though? It's more likely that he'll resort to his natural physical abilities rather than using fear toxin. This is especially more likely since hand-to-hand combat was Terry's greatest forte when first starting his career as Batman. Terry has always been inclined to making use of his physical combat rather than making use of mind games. While the story of Arkham Knight is completely original, the characters portrayed in the Arkham games have been portrayed fairly close to their comic book counterparts in terms of accuracy. It stands to reason that if Terry appeared in Arkham games in some shape and form, he would very much be portrayed close to his comic/animated incarnation. As it stands, it seems very unlikely that the figure at the end of the game is Terry--especially if it's implied that he has just started off as Batman. Using fear toxin is just inconsistent with the personality Terry has exhibited in both the comics and the animated series. Honestly, this seems more like the work of someone else than it does Terry. Perhaps someone without Bruce's abilities donning on a Batman Halloween costume. Honestly, the use of fear toxin in this case looks more like compensation at face value. It's either someone without Batman's skills re-purposing the fear toxin, or it's Bruce himself staying true to the "immortal" legend of Batman. The only possibility for this to be Terry is if he was in his pre-to-early teens. At that age, it could be explained that he had ambitions to follow in Batman's footsteps and needed the fear toxin. It could then be explained that Terry donned a costume of his own making, and the red bat symbol was a result of his interpretation and the need to distinguish himself from the previous Batman. I dunno. Just wildly speculating. My point is, you did well in connecting the appearances. But connecting personalities is probably the greatest hurdle. Terry becoming Batman's successor is a highly probable possibility. But needing and using fear gas to fight crime just doesn't fit Terry's brawny and reckless personality. Despite the previous arguments I posed, I personally think it's Bruce using the fear toxin. The way that brief ending scene played out suggests a lot of premeditation on "Batman's" part. The fear toxin is a complex chemical that requires finesse and immense technical expertise to manufacture and use. Out of the entire cast, Bruce is the only character that possesses both the capacity to understand the production and use of fear gas and the physical ability to fly across rooftops. As observed in the beginning of the game, fear toxin can have profound physical and mental consequences on those who inhale it. It can mentally disturb victims to such degree that they viciously attack and kill anyone around them. Given this, knowledge of the fear toxin is crucial--as too much will destroy a person and too little will have less than the desired effect. I'd like to believe that Bruce went into hiding while taking samples of the fear toxin with him. He studied the fear toxin and learned what the right dosage was as well as how to deploy the toxin with such subtlety that it only affects the criminals and not the innocent bystanders nearby. As shown in the ending, it's only the criminals who freak out and not the muggers (you can't hear the screams of the lady or the child, and the adult male was incapacitated). So whoever used the fear toxin in the ending took great care not to poison the mugging victims with it. This seems like Bruce upholding his hero code to be honest. I feel like Bruce, with the fear toxin in hand, was able to ascend his crime fighting strategies to a point where he would no longer need to physically engage the criminality in Gotham--which is something he was never able to do even in the height of his career as Batman. I mean think about it, the fact that the muggers were the only ones affected and their victims were fine suggests far greater organization and premeditation than any of the other possible batman candidates could possibly muster. Now let's think about this. The fear toxin is a toxin, which is a poison produced by either a living organism or an environment (biological vs environmental type toxins). Since toxins are a type of poison, this means that they can only enter the body in 1 of 4 ways: inhalation, ingestion, absorption through skin, or injection into the body from a bite of some sort. The fact that only the muggers in the ending were affected by the fear toxin suggests that the toxin is not airborne--otherwise that family would have experienced the effects too. If the fear toxin is not airborne, then how does the new Batman get it into the muggers' systems? Well, the fear toxin can be absorbed through the skin or ingested into the body. And since Batman cannot control insects or any animal for that matter, poisoning by bite is out of the question. This means that the fear toxin entered the systems of these two muggers either through skin absorption or ingestion. This suggests that the muggers had the fear toxin in their system well before attacking that family. And finally, this ultimately means that... whoever poisoned them with the fear toxin knew the mugging, or some kind of crime, would be committed by the two muggers. There's only one hero in the DC universe with this kind of foresight. It's Bruce Wayne. Of course, this is all just speculation. But I find the idea of Bruce Wayne using the fear toxin to be much more probable than Terry.

I think Knightfall Protocol was just a matter of Bruce getting over his fear of losing the people he cares about(which his fear was hinted throughout, and him locking Joker away in his subconscious resembled him getting over his fear), faking his death, then finally commit 100% to his new bat persona, and crime fighting style, the Nightmare Batman. He needed criminals to fear him again because they knew how to get to him and ultimately it made him lose order and control of criminals. So he simply needed to separate himself even more from everybody else. He hinted this to Selina when she said, "You can't do everything alone", and then he says, "And sometimes you have to." So now he can protect everyone his friends, family, and Gotham from destruction and loss of order because no one will know who he is anymore when he takes a new persona rather than Batman. It made every criminal fear him again. Although this is all only theory and minor speculation with only certain evidence, I still believe it to be the best theory out there.

While I'm not completely on board with Terry being the nightmare Batman, if we assume Bruce Wayne faked his death and is helping Terry behind the scenes, then most of your objections can be explained. Bruce Wayne was helping him behind the scenes in the show, and he would need Bruce's help to get the suit anyway. Bruce could have taught him the dosage and told him of the attack. I also just don't like Bruce being the new Batman. It really cheapens the ending.

Terry McGinnis is batman beyond (several decades into the future) nightmare Batman appeared present day-the same night Gordon was going to Tim and Barbara’s wedding so it can’t be terry. Loved this theory. But there is one popping problem. Terry Meginnus is batman's OTHER SON. Batman had one kid with talia al ghul ( Damian Wayne) when he was drugged, and one kid who's mother was never revealed ( Terry Meginnus ). Batman would still have to be alive after his apparent suicide, and you have to remember the entire batman beyond series. During Arkham Knight, Batman is in his very late 30s. Meaning he had Terry when he was about 45. Terry doesn't find out about Bruce or Batman until 16 years later. So we are talking about a 60 year old Batman here. Batman had originally made the suit Terry wears to help him with his old age and heart problems since he wasn't able to take pills on patrol. That suit was able to make him have his normal Batman strength back. Knight fall has to be Bruce Wayne. Just an older and less capable one. It took Nightwing (as robin) about 4 years to become as good as he is during these games. So if you are saying that Terry is Nightmare Batman, he would have to have been trained by the youngest heir to the cowl, Damian Wayne, but if this is 20 years later, that means this is 10 years after the Dark Knight Returns, the time in which he gained the new robin, that new robin ( I forgot her name ) was a little older than Terry, making her roughly 20 years old when Terry found out about Batman. So I think it is either Damian or Terry. Damian would be a better choice because he loves the thought of fear and pain, and he knows most martial art forms. Terry would be less likely due to his basic training style and no knowledge from the rest of the bat family.

I think that that's Jason Todd at the end of the game. We've seen that Jason had a change of heart and reverted back to his good self when he saved Batman from Scarecrow near the end of the game. Plus, as you said, the Batman we see at the end is the same version of Batman that Scarecrow sees after he is injected with his fear serum. It is very possible that Jason had access to Scarecrows fear serum/gas while he was in partnership with him as the Arkham Knight, and it's possible he may have even gotten a hold of the recipe. This is especially possible when you consider the recording you can hear of a conversation between the Arkham Knight and Scarecrow if you complete all of the Riddler's challenges on Founder's Island, In this recording, you can hear the Arkham Knight say that he chose to partner with Scarecrow because he likes his fear toxin. He says: "I've seen what your gas does. I want that." So it makes sense that he would take up the Batman mantle and use the fear toxin on the people.
