Gotta side with Colin on this one. If Bruce Wayne's objective is to prevent people from suffering like he did and to stop crime, and criminals like the Joker are constantly escaping just to commit more crime, then he should just put an end to the Joker. It's dumb that superheros feign some moral superiority/impetus by not killing those who kill, when that "morality" costs thousands of lives.
@ImagineMarshmallow11 жыл бұрын
but it would cost his morality ;)
@JohnRichards6711 жыл бұрын
Oisin Doyle Well it shouldn't. This isn't about Batman, it's about the people of Gotham. They look to Batman for protection and hope. If he just simply lets Joker live, he's practically poisoning the city. True, he may save some lives from Joker along the way, but he'll only be delaying the inevitable. If he killed Joker, he'd be saving thousands of lives. True, he would be killing, but he would be killing for a HIGHER purpose, not just for the purpose of a couple of laughs.

Joker sells comics. Simple. There is no suitable reason given IN the comics, but IRL Joker sells -- that's all that's keeping him alive. In fact Batman has been responsible for the deaths of a few antagonists in the past.

"But he's not above the law." It doesn't matter. He's already breaking the law just by being Batman. He's already a criminal. He doesn't need to uphold the law because that's the point. He works outside the law.

The HUGE problem with all these comic book characters refusing to simply kill the villain (who will break out of jail over and over again), is that he'll keep on killing more people. So by not killing the bad guy, they're basically allowing more innocent people to be killed. I'm sorry, but how is that just?

i stand with Colin. I'm a reader and i believe what he's saying is legit. And FTR Punisher IS COOL AND POPULAR ! Seems like our fat guy over there just trying to win without making any sense. Batman don't believe to be above the law but he's not above the law when he's breaking bones, giving major internal injuries, putting them in coma. Ironic huh! The writers of the batman doesn't make sense. They don't know logic. He believes that killing joker will make him just like him, so what? it's not wrong. Killing a MONSTER doesn't make him a monster for the sake of the people. This part is hilarious, batman don't want any child to suffer like him that's why he doesn't kill but for not killing the likes of joker the creation of orphan kids has been increased wtf! Most of the things about batman doesn't make any sense. He's a mentally ill person should be treated in asylum. I don't care if fanboys don't agree with me. i'm spitting realism.

I agree with Colin's points, the only problem is (at least for comics) is that you'd run out of comics with no villain... or you'd use a new villain for a while, do the same and then have a new one etc. But the Joker I guess is just too iconic to kill off. However they could always have some other person step up as the "new" Joker. I have no idea, so many possibilities.

You've got to think, if a police officer was in a stand-off with a murderer, he would be justified in killing him in order to protect civilians. Why can't superheroes get away with the same line of logic? Also, Punisher is awesome.
@813R11 жыл бұрын
I definetly agree with Colin, I've always believed that after a villian is caught and sent to jail a couple of times he or she should just be killed by either the hero or the law. It would help the comic world of which ever comic more, then just locking them up just so they can escape again. The Punisher was a ggod choice to bring up. I personaly would have chosen MoonKnight.

@jmitchellrobertson12 жыл бұрын
This conversation is a textbook study of the classic deontological-teleological dichotomy. Colin embodies the teleological argument for morality, where actions are judged "right" based upon their consequences (kill the bad guy, save many people). Conversely, Greg - and most heroes - endorse the deontological theory: that actions should be judged based upon conforming to a set of rules (i.e., heroes don't kill). Excellent discussion! This video should be shown in freshman philosophy classes.

I am a comic book fan I try to stay up to date with the new heroes but I agree that at some point they just need to die. We are so spoiled by this ever lasting conflict that I kust want to see one batman comic were batman snaps and grabs a gun and shoots joker. Thus putting a end to the crime in gotham. If two face and penguin see that batman killed someone then they would probably be so scared of him they would stop commiting crime. Batman may give up his morality but it is so crime will stop and thousands of people survive. I would rather me be sent to jail for the greater good of an entire cities safety.

@GameOverGreggy many of batman villans are, I'd say, a remixed version of him. for instance ra's al ghul wants good for the world. but he's tried to do it "the right way" for so long that he saw himself become a villan. joker is the exact opposite of batman. victor zsasz had a company, his parents died and he became depressed and started killing eventually. what I find interesting to see is how bruce wayne has managed to cope with all this stuff and keep doing good cuz being a villan is easy
