in comics, Harvey actually got his coin from his abusive father, who would use it to decide to beat his son if it landed on heads. This led Harvey to be a lawyer and bury his dark emotions for the sake of fairness and Justice.

@@osmanyousif7849 after a rewatch, since Carmine gave it to Bruce when his dad saved his life, I think the coin is supposed to represent how close the heroes come to making bad/harmful choices. It kinda embodies how Batman characters are often on a precipice b/w good and evil i think.

Making this year two just doesn't work though since multiple villains are already established who weren't introduced in year one - most notably Joker. It works much better as year four. That way you can easily slot in The Man Who Laughs, Journey into Knight, and Gothic as Year Two, and then fit Venom and Going Sane into year three.

Catwoman's origin has been changed many times in the DC universe. The Most accepted origin in the comic cannon is that Selina's parents are Maria and Brian Kyle. Brian is an alcoholic and Maria commits suicide..although some stories like this one hinted at her father being Rex “The Lion” Calabrese,friend and mentor of the well- known crime lord Carmine “The Roman” Falcone.

That Alberto is a victim of abuse making it hard for him to stand up to his father is a one thing, but that he seemed to have done nothing to protect his lover and child is another. Plus he even sented flowers to Gilda after the explosion of her house made by his own father (the very person that is responsible for her forced abortion) as a provocation, which is totally f-up and make it seems that he was totally on his father's side. But in the same time, I wouldn't say it warranted for Gilda to murder Alberto either. Ugh, it's complicated.

There's no serious previous movie you need to watch that connects with this one. This is DC's new animated movie universe, and so far, their 3 movies in or 4 if you count part 2 of long Halloween. Those movies are Justice league society world war 2, superman man of tomorrow, and batman long Halloween. Im glad you knocked this movie out on Halloween; this is one of my new favorite animated moves; the art style and voice acting is fantastic!

Ok so for those not aware, The Long Halloween, which takes place over a year, is generally regarded as ‘Year Two’ for Batman. Which is why he isn’t as experienced with some aspects like his detective work or his gadgets. And Year Three is when he finally gets Dick Grayson as Robin.

@@flashergoldpower15 My interpretation of Batman’s mentality really stems from the Arkham Knight trailer. Thomas left a message telling Bruce to view Gotham as one big family. That’s when it clicked. Not only does this explain his ‘no killing’ rule, but it also explains why he doesn’t trust a lot of outside superheroes to operate in the city. He knows not everybody views Gotham the same way he does.

This is the Dynamic Duo I prefer because Catwoman has proven herself to be Batman’s equal whereas Robin and Batgirl are kids that Batman mentors and sometimes they get in the way rather that be an asset to Batman’s crime fighting. Catwoman is my hero. She comes from a jaded past but she finds redemption and in the end proves to have a genuinely good heart.

The character Solomon Grundy was once Cyrus Gold who was murdered and buried in a swamp just outside of Gotham. Depending on which version he was either a merchant or a criminal. His body brought back to life as Revenant/Zombie with little memory of of his past except that he was born on a Monday which reminds people of the Solomon Grundy Nursery Rhyme. Grundy is super strong and can come back to life with different personalities. Sometimes dumb, Sometimes smart, Sometimes good, Sometimes evil. Oh, god, yes. I was expecting this to be "Hush", which is one of the worst animated adaptations of a beloved graphic novel I have ever seen, second only to "The Killing Joke"; whereas both parts of "The Long Halloween" are as faithful as possible, right up alongside "The Dark Knight Returns" and "Under the Red Hood". @@boyzaya15 I honestly think the Batman: Hush animated film is mediocre at best and not a great Batman film, because even though I am not the biggest fan of the original story, I think the major problem with the film is that the reveal ultimately leaves the plot to amount to nothing, as we see Batman go up against his rogues with certain circumstances being different yet still succeeding at the end which is a pretty basic premise for a Batman story and not really something unique, unlike this film which shows both the mafia and Gotham's villains to juxtapose each opponent. Not to mention that even though the dynamic and romancee between Batman and Catwoman is cute, it is still something we have seen repeatedly and doesn't offer any change in either characters which ultimately leaves them to continue a status quo relationship, feeling stale and nothing more than generic. The reveal of Riddler neing Hush also hinders the film down significantly, not because they changed it from the comics (in fact the change could've had a lot of potential), but because this reveal doesnt impact our characters in an emotional way. Since the original killer was Thomas Elliott (obvious as it may be) his dynanic and relationship to Bruce made the story feel a lot more personal and nuanced andd although Tommy's motivation is a little redundant, it still worked to allow us to feel emotionally invested into these two friends who have become enemies and seeing Bruce tackle this revelation, completely changes him as he becomes more distant and untrusting because of this, thus allowing character growth to flourish. Whereas in the animated film, we don't see this Bruce grow or get development as his relationship with Selina is the most notable aspect of his character in the film, and even their relationship ends with rough patches. The point is that since we don't have an established connection between Bruce or Riddler in the film, then we can't necessarily care to see their encounter especially when regarding Riddler's apparent insecurity in popularity surrounding the other rogues, which feels like a very lack luster motivation to become Hush. Personally I just dont think the film is a great Batman film, nor is it a good adaptation of the story, for aforementioned reasons.

From the DC content I've seen and read, Soloman Grundy is a hulking zombie-like creature with immense strength but limited intelligence. He was an gangster when he was alive but got killed in a swamp in which he was brought back to life years later. He calls himself 'Soloman Grundy' from the song of the same name. In most portrayals, like in The Long Halloween and Justice League Unlimited, he is seen as a sympathetic character. I might have missed some details or got some things wrong but I bet someone will correct me and that's ok😊 We're all here to learn, at the end of the day

One version He has connections to is The Parliament of the Green which is what brought Swamp Thing back except the process of transformation was never completed (with fire) for Grundy. Another was he was an alleged pedophile killed by an angry mob in the swamp. Whether he was or not is unknown. and another a innocent merchant.

Happy Halloween Krystalogy🎃 The Long Halloween has always been my favourite Batman story, and it was the very first graphic novel I bought, to this day it has held a very special place in my heart. The plot is great, the noir tone is thrilling, the characters are engaging and captivating and the theme of Gotham's fall from organised crime to freaks and villains roaming around (Gotham's evolution from the old ways to the new ways), and above all else the tragic downfall of Harvey Dent into Two-Face is by far one of my favourite parts of the story. Jeph Loeb's writing and Tim Sale's incredible artwork is nothing if not amazing. I love the Long Halloween's sequel Batman: Dark Victory as well which also tackles Gotham's fall into insanity and Bruce's evolution from a vigilante to a hero and father, learning to take in Dick Grayson (Robin). This film in my opinion certainly does justice to the original story and even though it changes a few things from the comic, it is still an engaging and fascinating change that adds a lot more to the story. In the Graphic Novel,Alberto Falcone was the Holiday Killer,developing a form of DID foreshadowing Harvey`s eventual fate due to his family`s neglectful and abusive nature due to the Mafia lifestyle he subconsciously resented despite his best efforts to conform to his father`s expectations even with his more mild-mannered nature.Gilda was the second Holiday Killer years later due to blaming Batman for her husband`s fall into villainy.

When Harvey got knocked out during the fight with that hitman in the sewer, Two Face took control, woke him up, and use harveys body to kill the hitman. The goal of the hitman and Falcone was to agitate harvey enough to make him mentally unstable and to discredit him/ make him look like holiday. I believe in the comic it is explained that Falcone found out about harvey's mental health issues via some public records or the gun eval.

I love the guy as much as the next DC fan but I feel he takes too much screentime away from other amazing villains, I like how in this film he has a smaller role with more focus on Harvey, Carmine and Gilda (though honestly she is pretty justified in her actions).

@@kaiphan1346 Actually a Green Lantern animated film already exists, called Green Lantern: First Flight which acts as a great Green Lantern film, and does a better job at introducing the character of Hal Jordan and expanding the universe of the Green Lantern Corps, and it also acts as a Sinestro origin film showing his decent into villainy andd towards the Yellow Lantern Corps. I recommend the film if you want to see a really good Green Lantern animated film. BTW you should also check out the Green Lantern animated series, which is also quite underrated, and very good show that further expands the intergalactic side of the DC Universe with even more interesting themes and characters.

Just finished watching both parts, it's really good! I will admit I was taken back by the animation. But I realized the comic illustration was never gonna translate 100% well after that I just accepted it, but also impressed on how good it was! It was even quiet in moments where it needed to be quiet. Also look, in animation versions if u can't get mark Hamill then damn Right scoop up Troy Baker. There were changes that weren't ridiculous and overall stuck to it's source and still keeps it's noir feel. Definitely enjoyed it, if they Announced "dark victory" as their their next project , wouldn't be mad at that.

Batman The Long Halloween is set in the same universe with Superman Man of Tomorrow and Justice Society: World War II. It's not part of the New 52 Movie Universe (Justice League War through Justice League Dark Apokolips). Anyway, while The Long Halloween Part 1 and Part is pretty much faithful to the comic books, but they change some things from the comic books. The ending in the comic book was better than the film's original ending, in my opinion.

In the comics, it’s a lot more convoluted. There were technically 3 killers & Alberto’s death was faked. The way I interpreted it was Gilda originally started the early killings so Harvey could finally have free time. Either her or Harvey could have targeted Alberto, but when Alberto survived he took on the Holiday name & took credit for all the killings to spite his father. Dent went insane from the Holiday case & chasing the Falcone family only for the justice system to constantly fail, plus mental illness & abuse ran in his family and I’m sure the brain damage from acid didn’t help either. He found out about Gilda’s crimes & for sure committed the murder of his own assistant who slipped Maroni the acid before he went into the courtroom & the last one which was Falcone. Gilda was never caught & all 3 of them thought there were only 2 killers. Gilda & Harvey thought it was only each other and Alberto thought it was only himself & whichever one of Dents shot him. I think I prefer the simpler ending in the movie & Batman figuring it out actually made him look like a good detective. I didn’t piece together Alberto & Gilda having a prior relationship, but overall I prefer the story structure of the comic. It was one of the best graphic novels I’ve ever read.

In the comic this movie was based on, I personally feel the ending was better as it wasn't 100% clear but there were clues of holiday being either Harvey, Gilda or Alberto (Alberto fakes his death on new years)

Idk if the Comics were like this but I was irritated with how ridiculously OBVIOUS who the murderer was and Bruces inability to figure it out. Granted we have context he doesn't but that still makes for a frustrating 2 hours or so of movie watching. You should have a pretty good idea of who and why by 12 minutes in.

This is the original ending of the story from the comics: In the comic, Gilda was responsible for Halloween through Christmas, after which Alberto faked his own death to escape his father and killed people who would know he’s alive like the coroner. Then, Two-Face became Holiday for Labor Day and Halloween to finish the job. There were 3 Holidays, but all the murders were pinned on Alberto. Batman never found the truth. This is Gilda’s monologue to herself at the end and is one of the most goosebump inducing moments in all of comics: “Harvey… I did what needed to be done. Do you remember, you promised? We would finally have time together. When you didn’t have so much work to do. I read your case files. About taking serial numbers off guns and… and how a baby bottle nipple would muffle the sound. How clues are left at murder scenes. And I thought if I did that, Batman would think it was someone extraordinary and not me. Not me. thanks for posting this breakdown and that dope quote. Im honestly a fan of both the original and film version. The film versions choice of doing one Holiday and making it Gilda appeals to me bc first, its a helluva a lot easier to keep track of lol. Second, Gilda being this kind of reckoning for the Roman Empire's sins is super cool, and her new connection to alberto/carmine really helps flesh out how personal the war on crime in Gotham can be, especially bc she is the DAs wife. I also like how Gilda kinda represents the consequences of what happens when Batman and the GCPD are NOT good enough and how innocent people can get twisted up by Gothams crime. Obv this is my opinion but just thought it was cool to share.

This is still pretty early in Batman's career possibly in his second year, which is why his moves, strategy etc isn't as deep as we would normally see him. If you have a chance, watch Batman Year One. It's does explore his beginning in his activities as Batman as well as his first meeting with Selena.

Solomon Grundy, Born on a Monday, Died on a Tuesday. You called him Hulk in the other Reaction; he's a tragic DC character who became a zombie basically and cannot die. You should definitely read a Grundy comic, there's some good one shots. Also in this era; Batman was only a fear years into his career, so he was still green and inexperienced. Naya Rivera was Big Sean's ex girlfriend and a long term Glee actress as well as movies and voice acting she passed away in a boating accident. She did an amazing Selena.

Making Gilda the killer was such a cool choice. While Batman letting her go was kinda weird, making her Holiday works on so many levels. She really represents how deep and vicious Falcone’s influence runs and how even the most ordinary of Gotham citizens get screwed when the legal system is unable to protect anyone(her relationship with Alberto collapsing and her forced abortion with no justice for her). And the baby bottle nipple gets extra symbolism bc of Gildas trauma surrounding childbirth (she told Harvey she couldn’t have kids in part 1). She also has a pretty solid reason for hating Falcone, esp given the stuff the film added.
