I see all those empties don’t have covers on them what kind of freight do they haul maybe gravel or something like that that rain won’t really hurt or do they add covers after they are loaded

Covertops for grain, steel coils, fertilizer, and stuff you don’t want wet. Rock, coal, timber, and such usually open hopper. 👍🏻

Did the William Strait sink? Was it ever put back into use? What is the difference between Capt., Pilot, Steersman?
@marktwained7 жыл бұрын
+C Matheson yes it sank. It is almost ready to go back to work again. Captain runs front watch and deals with day to day operations of boat, groceries, tow configuration and such. Pilot stands back watch and doesn't have responsibilities of captain but drives while captain is off watch. Steersman is pilot in training.
@chrismatheson16587 жыл бұрын
Do you hold the same job on all the vids, such as are you the captain or pilot? Sometime you are running at night sometime daylight.Just interested I don't know anything about towboats or your job. Really like the vids. Gives me a look inside. I was raised in South La. and saw them all the time on the Intracoastal near Orange TX. Thanks for the response!
@FairEnouff6 жыл бұрын
C Matheson All crew members work 6 hours on and 6 hours off. In turn both watches will see daylight and dark.

We are running with thirty feet less than we did for the spring and summer. The navigation channel is not wide enough in certain places, at lower river stages, for vessels to meet. Southbound traffic has right of way, basically.
@marktwained9 жыл бұрын
This company has really invested in refurbishment of some great boats. The upkeep is a credit to some hard working crews.
@kevincollins80143 жыл бұрын
Maybe this seems like a dumb question but what determines who has to hold up and who doesn't. Is it just whoever gets to the curve first continues?
